George’s name still had marketing value at the time, at least until Howard The Duck. 😉

In all fairness, there are Democrats you could put in that pic that were accused of sexual harassment. Bill Clinton for example.

Until Trump though, Republicans have always touted that their candidate is a much more moral person than the democrat. In all fairness this has pretty much been honest for a while with the obvious exception of Nixon, but Trump proves that they don’t care about electing the person who emulates the Christian life.

That was after the Republican Party started going after the “Moral Majority”, a movement that started with Reagan, so Nixon doesn’t really fit in that analysis as the party was very different. Now, with Trump and Sanders and everyone, this is probably the first time the parties have moved significantly away from the ideas established under Reagan.

So this happened while everyone was off topic about Labyrinth…

Mr. President, I rise today to address a matter that has been much on my mind, at a moment when it seems that our democracy is more defined by our discord and our dysfunction than it is by our values and our principles. Let me begin by noting a somewhat obvious point that these offices that we hold are not ours to hold indefinitely. We are not here simply to mark time. Sustained incumbency is certainly not the point of seeking office. And there are times when we must risk our careers in favor of our principles.

Now is such a time.

It must also be said that I rise today with no small measure of regret. Regret, because of the state of our disunion, regret because of the disrepair and destructiveness of our politics, regret because of the indecency of our discourse, regret because of the coarseness of our leadership, regret for the compromise of our moral authority, and by our — all of our — complicity in this alarming and dangerous state of affairs. It is time for our complicity and our accommodation of the unacceptable to end.

Honestly, the whole thing is quaotable. Read it.

I am no fan of Jeff Flake (I got a letter from him earlier in the year talking about why it was so important that he vote to fuck Net Neutrality, and a lot of his policies are just garbage), but this has made me respect him in a whole new way. I’m proud of him for standing up.

Keep Circulating the Tapes.

Fuck Jeff Flake. He has no right to declare some sort of ‘moral high ground’ over Trump, not when he votes in line with Trump 90% of the time. Not when he votes AGAINST disaster relief; in fact, that puts him lower than Trump. Even Trump—a certified garbage human being—voted in favor of disaster relief.

I have real mixed feelings about Flake (and Corker). Better late than never I guess, but earlier would have been better than late.

Also, as Jeebus said, his voting record sucks (if you aren’t a hardcore conservative).

true, but that was great speech.

If I recall correctly, Flake never endorsed Trump in 2016.

Well let’s throw him a parade!

Or at least, that makes him barely better than Corker, who definitely endorsed Trump.

Good speech. This week may convince some people that as Republicans in Congress went to unprecedented lengths to grant Trump as much power to achieve his aims as possible, Jeff Flake, John McCain, and Bob Corker simply would not go along with it. I suspect it won’t convince Merrick Garland, though.

It’s just as well they’re retiring, so they don’t have as much of an opportunity to fail to live up to their words.

David Bowie’s Labyrinth bulge was scary when I was a child but as I grew older I began to appreciate it for what it was. It’s the Christmas tree effect: the perception of size is relative to the space you occupy so when you’re a child the Christmas tree is a towering behemoth, but as you grow physically larger it becomes increasingly less intimidating and eventually you realize you were wrong all along: It was never so huge, there’s nothing to be afraid of.

I feel my relationship with the bulge has developed along similar lines. I would string lights and tinsel on it and put a gift or two underneath it for closure but sadly his bulge is in Heaven.

convince Merrick Garland of what?

Without reading the rest of the context I’m just going to take a wild fucking guess and say they meant it won’t convince Merrick Garland to agree with the sentiments of the speech.

Lol. Now that’s some basic cognition.
