Runtimes are consistent with the SE.

Yeah, they certainly didn’t want to give away what the new characters looked like until the movie had been out a while. I received a textless version of that poster from the original SW fan club around 1981. I think that was the first time I ever noticed a poster variation as a kid.
I don’t think Yoda was added until much much later.

Didn’t KENNER hold back the Yoda action figure too? Not wanting to ruin the surprise.

They probably did. I can’t recall exactly how long though. There wasn’t any blacking out catalog and cardback images like they did for Jabba and the Ewoks in 1983, so he probably wasn’t in the first ESB wave. I would think Yoda made his plastic debut in time for Christmas.

Flash forward to 2017, where even if I stayed off the forum and cut my internet, I still would see Porgs plastered on the doors of my local Target. I’m staying the hell away from the toy aisle until I see TLJ. :p

Yeah, those covers are definitely fan-submitted.

Many collectors are interested in what the packaging, casing, discs, booklets and memorabilia looks like for a Blu-ray release. Here you can find and share packaging images for Star Wars: Episode IV - A New Hope Blu-ray.

I’m certain that’s true. I’ve always felt he looks “off” in that image. I mean. he looks good. Looks like Yoda. But the style seems inconsistent with the rest of the artwork. The other additions blend more naturally.
Maybe it’s because Yoda is in a recognizable pose from the film. The rest seem to be painted from BTS stills and such, but Yoda is definitely from the film itself.

That blip means nothing. Same true for the steelbooks. There is a distinction between user photos and the splash images, which are usually what’s up on Amazon, etc

Nothing new in it really, but a new Gizmodo article:

I kind of wish a lot of noise was made about this, especially with Reed’s recent Tweet. I don’t think it’d change Disney’s mind of anything, but it’d nice if the cause got a little more exposure.

We’ve got three years to continue making noise. Lucasfilm isn’t gonna say a word on the subject until then. Reed’s tweet is certainly a nice start, although it’d be even better if someone working for Lucasfilm itself would speak up.

Johnson slammed the SE in 2011, years before he was hired, but Abrams did at least let it slip in a 2015 interview that he’d shown his kids “the original versions” specifically. I’d certainly love to know what Edwards and Ron Howard’s thoughts on the subject are.

You’re right; we’re going to have to wait out 2020 at the absolute earliest. I think that’s just just kind of the brutal fact of it.

It’s just damn frustrating when The Force Awakens is a veritable remake of a movie that we can’t officially watch on its original format.

I’ve tried to understand this point for months now, but I really just have to ask: why would the rights reverting to Disney in 2020 make any difference whatsoever? They’ve released the trilogy on home video two or three times since the LFL buyout, albeit in the pre-existing 2011 edition, and they finally put the saga out on digital formats as well in that period. Why wouldn’t they wait until 2020 for those, too, if it was just a matter of making the most money off of them? And even when 2020 rolls around, they’ll never have the rights to the original 1977 Star Wars, so it’s not an issue of them not being allowed to restore the OOT either.

Because those require no investment. Restoring the films would be expensive and to release them two and half years before they get a much bigger cut would be an idiotic business decision.

The Person in Question

2020 isn’t going to make any difference. Kathleen Kennedy has already said the OOT is never coming. But that doesn’t stop a mix of eternal optimists and Disney apologists from moving the goalpost every chance they get.

Except she didn’t, but you continue to enjoy living outside of reality.

Yeah, it’s pretty clear that she was saying they wouldn’t make any further alterations to the films beyond the changes that have already been made. Why her words keep getting twisted to mean anything else is beyond me.

Does anyone think there is a chance in Hell that Fox would ever sell Disney their remaining rights to Star Wars 77? Or will they be dicks about it? I hope that those 50 Avatar sequels all bomb hard and Fox needs the sweet Disney money.

It seems like people are really embracing the new characters. In fact, the big question people ask me now about Star Wars is, “Are Finn and Poe gay lovers?” And really how the f*ck would I know? My second husband left me for a man, so my gaydar isn’t exactly what you’d call Death Star level quality. ----Carrie Fisher

Disney would try to get the X-Men and Fantastic Four rights as well in that scenario. Those probably mean more to them than the original Star Wars at this point.
If there was a change of studio regime at Fox, they might not value Star Wars as much as they did before the Disney deal. Is Fox footing the Avatar budget or is Cameron?

It’s highly likely that you are right and that it isn’t coming, but she did not say this and any time you wanted to stop bringing this falsehood up that would be great. Will the oot ever be released? Nobody knows. There’s a good chance it won’t. But repeatedly spreading false information about why it definitely won’t is just as bad, if not worse, as people giving optimistic reasons about how it might. She said there were no plans to release the original versions. That doesn’t mean it can’t every happen. And she said they wouldn’t further change them. That’s it. That’s all she’s said. So you can stop stating your personal opinionated interpretation as a fact that she definitely said things she didn’t.

Where did she say they had no plans to release them? I’ve heard people say this before, but I haven’t found any evidence that she has ever specifically addressed this question.

Calling Aalderan out isn’t gonna get a response from him. He’ll just leave for a day or two and then come back and say the same dumb things. That such trolls are allowed freedom here while Warb’s in lockup is pretty aggravating…

Anyways, I doubt we’re ever getting the OUT. But Kathy Whoever’s comments were about the SE not the OUT.

Kathy Whoever’s comments were a typical confused response to a nerd’s question. she was barely engaged in that conversation. I have no idea why it keeps being brought up. it has no bearing one way or the other.
