I don’t even get why he would care one way or the other. Other than to troll, of course.

Either that or scour the Earth for a more competent writer and just have JJ direct.

That would be a decent solution. I can admit JJ’s writing is nothing that gets me too excited exactly. However, I think he’s the kind of director where the script makes or breaks the final product. It is fair to mention that both the Trek films he directed also had two terrible Hollywood writers. Although '09 was better… So maybe their work is just on a spectrum.

Then again they also wrote ‘The Legend of Zorro’ and ‘Transformers’ so I don’t know what to believe.

JJ has definitely gotten more shit thrown at him than he deserves, but even with Kasdan he still couldn’t produce a great script. I can sense JJ’s influence in the bad aspects of TFA and the rest of the ST doesn’t need to be plagued with a writer who’s that hit or miss. To be blunt, the elements that will make Star Wars thrive for decades to come isn’t in JJ’s skill set.

Before TFA, Lucas had crafted all the stories. Lucas knows how to write an ending. Abrams doesn’t. I consider the Ach-to segment in TFA to be discardable epilogue. Kasdan is a good screen writer, but it was Lucas who created TESB and ROTJ, not Kasdan. Lucas has sole story credit on all 6 films.

Regardless of who was credited Kasdan put in enough work in ESB for Lucas to deem it his least favorite film in the saga. Until TFA I’m guessing.

What IX needs is a good story and for Kennedy to hounds Abrams to follow the story and not do his own thing. He is a good director, but a bad story teller. This could work, but knowing how Hollywood works, the chances are slim.

I’m hoping VIII makes JJ really jealous and he drags that with him during the entire process. That’s the only way we’ll be getting something bold.

EDIT:

Also Lucas hasn’t made a solid ending to a SW film since Empire. What’s sad is that I don’t even know all the specifics of what Lucas contributed to the ending of Empire so I wouldn’t be so quick to give him that type of props.

I dislike AOTC, but I think it had a solid ending. The war begins and we see the massive army ready to ship out to the front lines and Anakin and Padme sneak away for a forbidden wedding and whatever pleasure they can get in a galaxy about to be torn apart by war. Of course it looks terrible and you have to forget the last 2 hours.

It seems like people are really embracing the new characters. In fact, the big question people ask me now about Star Wars is, “Are Finn and Poe gay lovers?” And really how the f*ck would I know? My second husband left me for a man, so my gaydar isn’t exactly what you’d call Death Star level quality. ----Carrie Fisher

I’m probably calling attention to how dumb I am but I didn’t even realize the wedding was secret until I saw the chapter title on the DVD.

In general the ending was competent, but everything that preceded the ending was garbage and endings are built upon the foundations of a story. Not even one person at the end continued to question the suspect nature surrounding the Clone Army and that tarnished the whole thing for me.

Anakin later made sure the priest never talked. 😉

I haven’t watched the Prequels in at least 6 years so its all faded a bit for me.

The Clone Wars is far superior anyway. I didn’t watch it in broadcast order but the Chronological Story one.
Episode IX will be a worthy addition to my movie ticket stub collection. IDGAF if Abrams is returning but it woulda been nice if different director.

It takes more effort to watch something that to not watch something.
I haven’t seen any of the PT is over a decade. I doubt I ever will again.

I’m trying to take it further than that; I’ve been actively trying to push the PT to the furthest corner of my mind. Essentially only trying to think about it if I’m faced by the stimuli and even in those instances I try to avoid any conversations or photos concerning the Prequels. Rogue One has made this process so much easier.

I caught the Clone Wars when Netflix gave me a free trial month. I like some arcs, didn’t like others. Mandalore and the Darksaber was cool, Maul’s resurrection worked better than it had any right to and I’m probably the only one who didn’t care for the Mortis stuff.

As for Abrams, they were in a tight spot and he did deliver a 2 billion dollar movie for them. Carrie Fisher’s death was so unexpected that it put the plans into a tailspin and Collin wasn’t able to overcome it. Rian Johnson is probably exhausted and rightly didn’t want to go back in and do another one, though him taking a look at the script for 9 would be a good thing.

It seems like people are really embracing the new characters. In fact, the big question people ask me now about Star Wars is, “Are Finn and Poe gay lovers?” And really how the f*ck would I know? I see Luke Skywalker as Obi-wan, not just for mentoring Rey to become a Jedi, but Luke Skywalker had the Original Trilogy, that was about him, just as the Prequels told the story of Anakin AND Obi-wan, so when it came to the OT, it wasn’t about Obi-wan anymore, he was in the trilogy, but only to mentor Luke, give him his father’s lightsaber and make way for the new characters like Luke, Han Solo and Leia to go on their adventure. He gave his life, so they could live.

The Sequel Trilogy is NOT about Luke, he has a job to do, that is to train Rey and reveal stuff to her, Leia and Ben Solo, just as Obi-wan did for Luke, Luke will do for Rey, but it’s not his story, his was told in the OT films. Luke will reveal things in TLJ that we already know and some things that we don’t. Will he give his life, so others may live as well? Will he live to Episode IX? That remains to be seen, but this trilogy is about Rey, Finn and Poe Dameron.

I liked TFA, but I hope Episode IX is not a rehash of ANY of the other Star Wars films.

Small note: When George Lucas decided to expand the Sequel Trilogy from one film to three (as mentioned in The Making of ESB), he initially considered having each film use the same cast and script, but different directors.

That way, by experiencing the same story three times in different ways, audiences would see what a director’s sensibility brings to a film: a particular point of view.

“That Darth Vader, man. Sure does love eating Jedi.”
