I don’t get the complaints about Vader being forced to call Palpatine his master at all times. He’s been beat down for 25 years at this point from a man who literally gave him his life back.

Totally agree. Vader is clearly under the thumb of the Emperor. He would kill him if he could, but he is so weak has no free will when it comes to him.
That is the reason he never tried to kill him, which suppose to be the Sith way after all.

SilverWook said:

How would Palpatine know what Vader said to Luke at Cloud City? He might sense a change in Vader post Bespin, but not necessarily a I want to kill you and rule the galaxy with my kid vibe.

Doesn’t have to.
Surely Palpatine always knew that his apprentice wants to kill him, once he feels he is strong enough to do it. He is a Sith afterall, who went through the same thing. And succeded.
(I know disney deleted the EU with “one swift stroke”, still it is something that works, and Lucas adopted this “always 2” rule in the PT)

One thing that always bothered me about ROTJ is the “alien” dialogue. In ANH, Greedo sounds like he’s speaking an actual different language, and (although they’re not being Revisited) the same is true for alien dialogue in the other movies. In ROTJ, Jabba and Bib Fortuna are both very obviously speaking English that has been dubbed with lip-synced gibberish — despite the fact that one is a puppet and the other has heavy makeup including dentures, so they didn’t need to lip-sync it anything like as closely as they did.

Would Adywan consider re-dubbing these characters (as well as Leia, perhaps, who just says pretty much the same thing over and over with that mask) with believable dialogue that actually sounds like a different language? If so, I’d like to volunteer my services. I have some experience in the field (I majored in linguistics at uni, and I’ve worked and corresponded with Mark Rosenfelder of The Language Construction Kit), and I’d jump at the chance to sketch a language and write dialogue to fit the existing subtitles (or any alterations to them Ady sees fit to make). It should be easy enough to base it, phonologically and grammatically, on Greedo’s dialogue in ANH.

And we don’t know what kind of punishment he got between movies for thinking like that.

I like the effect. It shows Vader dropping his guard and proving to the Emperor that Vader has become a dangerous liability and not just old and weak. You also get a sense of his evil courtiers and Vader being part of constantly bickering clique only held together by Palpatine’s bloated ego. Any one of them could be a Snoke but he has them all tethered and resentful. Such is politics 😆

Looking at when Luke swings his lightsaber around just doesn’t seem like the Jedi way to me. Maybe if he acted more in a defensive stance rather than acting all aggressive, but how could you even change something like that? Use a body double?! And also does it appear as if his saber is too long in certain shots?

“Did you know, the word ‘gullible’ is not in the dictionary?! Look it up.”

I agree, but it is excessive in at least one scene. Ady has already agreed that it will be changed.

When did he say that?

I feel his fighting style at that point was more in the vein of Windu’s aggressive fighting form so i don’t mind it. What I do mind is how inconsistent his lightsaber is from shot to shot. Its too blown out, too thicc, the swing blur doesn’t exist and when it does, it doesn’t look right. Three rereleases and they still haven’t fixed it. Its one of the things i look forward to the most with Adywan’s edit.

Too bad the footage from the old Star Wars Interactive Video Board Game only exists in VHS quality, as there’s plenty of shots of Vader at a communications console. He could probably take the call from Fett while in his pod though.

I agree it would be in the pod. The screen makes more sense its communication to the bridge of the executor. Or it could be between other ships. But, that scene COULD be used in this way. If there was to be a bit of an overhaul, one idea would be to build two sets. One that is the inside of the pod and the other a hallway in Jabbas palace. The main issue is the very few lines for Fett. So I came up with this idea

FETT IS WALKING DOWN HALLWAY IN PALACE. STOPS, BRIEFLY LOOKS AROUND AND OPENS A COMMUNICATOR. SCENE THEN CUTS TO EXECUTOR. THEN CUTS TO INSIDE OF VADER’S POD

VADER: Yes, Bounty Hunter? SCENE CUTS TO VADER’S PERSPECTIVE LOOKING AT HOLO OF FETT IN POD.

FETT (DISTRORTED): Skywalker is here.

VADER: Good. I want him alive.

FETT (DISTORTED): As you wish. ENDS TRANSMISSION

The rest of the scene could be the pod opening and reusing the scene you listed above for the video screen and having some lines between Vader and an officer about sending a fleet/shuttle/ship what ever to Tatooine.

Later on after the heroes escape, a scene with a holo of that office or a trooper commander can inform Vader that the palace is empty and no sign of skywaylker. It could end with a person in a vader suit just ends the communication, pauses, and walks off to end scene. Or he can choke the trooper/officer via the holo.

Why would a Vader/Fett little chat be of any use ? I mean, does Fett try to keep Luke alive at any point in the movie ? The idea sounds cool but nothing in the actual movie would be consistent with it.

I wonder when Ady can come in and say that he’s certainly not adding MORE Boba Fett to the movie.

I’ve been looking forward to people listing the little things that ate at them for years. Like a moving blaster hole or scuff mark, or like someone just pointed out, the fact that Luke’s lightsaber expands in size randomly.

What about the Blu-ray changes? Ady kept the sparks in the Cloud City junk room. Will he keep the new unthawing animation? What about R2’s extra gizmos that pop out when he’s shot? WHAT ABOUT JABBA’S PALACE DOOR THAT’S NOW 3 TIMES BIGGER ON THE OUTSIDE THAN THE INSIDE?

I’m definitely curious about the door. I could go either way with the R2 gizmos (I’m a purist by default, but it does seem like a normal SE type thing - though I assume it is in someway problematic/contradictory).

I would certainly prefer if the dug thing was absent from the steps, though. Any word on that one? I’m also curious about the Ewok eyes. One of the fan editors here made an okay case for the blinking in that their benefit isn’t making the Ewoks seem more realistic or less like inanimate teddy bears (they don’t), but in making them look more horrifying and nightmareish. I can buy that. But still curious.

Now thinking more about it, I do say completely ax out boba fett from the movie.

Instead, there could be an extra character added that could be an imperial spy. Kind of like in The Force Awakens you had a resistance spy and an imperial spy …

Anyway, it shows a guy sneaking off the hallway, maybe after Luke kills the rancor. He could be in a cloak, or looks like some kind of bounty hunter or something. He Takes out a communicator and says “Inform Lord Vader Skywalker is here.”

If there needs to be more added about this concept: After holo escapes, the video screen can be used with an officer reporting to Vader that explains that troops found the Palace empty and rumors/reports that Jabba was killed and Skywalker escaped. Vader can be silent … or just choke the guy … whatever is needed.

It adds a good connection for the first part of the movie with the rest. It also goes with the scene with the emperor commenting about Vader’s search for Luke and telling him to just wait for Luke to come to him.

I didn’t even bring the Dug up because it doesn’t make any sense in a shot that’s supposed to show that EVERYONE is asleep.

Another thing, I wonder if Ady can get rid of the audio of Greedo from ANH from Jabba’s Throne Room.

I assume the logic in adding the dug was “oh what a nice clean shot to add things to with so much open space!”

Someone here also made a good case for a lot of the 2011 changes seeming so random because newly added foreground elements are things that could easily be made to pop in the planned 3D releases. New ESB sparks, the dug thing, a crazy ass door, R2’s rocks, maybe Han’s thawing effect?

It makes sense that it was you! Now I can name you next time I describe this theory, at least until I forget again.

He wraps him up with his arm cord thingy rather than just shoot him at one point on the skiff battle.

Then he stands up and starts shooting at him, prompting Chewie to warn Han about him.

Another 2011 change, what about the new insert shot of Han hitting Boba Fett’s jetpack, which has gone completely unexplained?

Even better: at each point of the movie where Luke leaves a place Ady should add an Imperial spy who reports to Vader that Luke is here and later to inform him that Luke has left. At Jabba’s palace (“ok then, Lord Vader, he’s gone, and Jabba is dead”), in Dagobah (“well, Lord Vader, he’s gone and Yoda is dead”), in the Rebel Fleet (“Lord Vader, bad news, he’s gone, and a space mexican guy is co-piloting the Falcon now”), on Endor (“he’s… oh! okay, he’s just surrendered himself. My job here is done”), on the Death Star (“Vader is gone, the Emperor is dead, and Luke is leaving again. Damned !”). The same character can also be added to TFA:R.

Instead, let’s just have the annoying hovering search droid from Mos Eisley SE constantly buzzing behind Luke’s head, keeping out of his sight.
