Episode IX: The Rise Of Skywalker - Discussion * SPOILER THREAD * — Page 5

I think the writing part is the crux of the matter here - just going by how RJ described his creative process in various interviews, and by the gaps between his movies. At this point if he doesn’t do IX, I doubt he’d be writing it either. And if he does direct it, it will be his script.

Plus there’s the part where they have to scrap whatever pre-production they managed to have that was based on several aborted scripts. Alien 3, anyone?

JJ Abrams is entirely unsuited to third acts, at least in a writing capacity.

+infinity

JJ does not know how to wrap up anything in a satisfying manner.

How does one double +infinity? Shouldn’t the forum have exploded immediately afterwards?

i think it spawns a new forum before blinking out of existence, and everyone on the new forum is exactly the same, except wearing read hats with stickers on them.

Despite the typo, it’s clear you’re just trying to trick me into posting one of these:

Sorry but I’m too smrt for you, buddy.

Does anyone besides internet geeks put that much stock in Rotten Tomatoes though? Comcast owns RT as well as Universal, so I’d take reviews there with a grain of salt. That is, if I gave a crap about RT. 😉

BOH will probably break even once it hits home video, streaming and cable. I’m sure Rifftrax is going to take a crack at it.

I would say studios care about RT scores, as well as audiences (they’ve become common in advertising). Not that I care all that much, but it is what it is: a review aggregator. And the general consensus was that Jurassic World was okay fun, and Book of Henry was just plain not fun at all.

Also the idea that Comcast is buying reviews there is pretty ridiculous. Who do you think made Book of Henry, after all?

You can’t double infinity but some infinities are larger than others.

I find it amusing Stanton and Bird get mentioned as both have expensive Disney flops on their track record. 😉

I wasn’t aware Focus Features was owned by them. Too many subdivisions to keep track of these days.

Comcast DGAF about what people think. Look at their customer service reviews…

It seems like people are really embracing the new characters. In fact, the big question people ask me now about Star Wars is, “Are Finn and Poe gay lovers?” And really how the f*ck would I know? My second husband left me for a man, so my gaydar isn’t exactly what you’d call Death Star level quality. ----Carrie Fisher

Obviously, it is going to be George Lucas.

Obviously.

The Jedi are all but extinct.......

george lucas will never be allowed to direct another film…not with star wars fans still shitting on him because of the prequels…at best he will be allowed to bring in a loose outline

What I find interesting is that Derek Connolly - Trevorrow’s partner-in-crime on the Jurassic World “script” - was mentioned early on as his co-writer on IX, but then seemed to have vanished from the process. I wonder what happened there.

Derek conelley is a largely awful screenwriter…which supports the script problems rumor

The proper nomenclature would be: “To infinity, and beyond!”

Come on, Rian. You know you want to.

I am genuinely excited by this possibility.

I’ll withhold my excitement for after I see TLJ.

I’m not excited because of TLJ - I’m excited because of his other movies, all of which I absolutely love. His storytelling sensibilities just allign perfectly with my taste, so if he claims he got to make the movie he wanted to make - I’m there regardless of what that movie is. It just happens to be Star Wars this time around.

I didn’t even realize he was officially canonized as the savior of Star Wars by the fandom until they booted Trevorrow off IX and I started reading a bit.

What can definitively be said of Rian is that he has the right mindset as it pertains to crafting a great and unique story. It’s rare that you have someone with those sensibilities and based off that alone he is the man we (probably) need.

Is The Last Jedi done? I know it was supposed to be done in August. The real question is does Rian want to devote another two years to Star Wars?
