I actually feel the opposite. I think the barge sequence is decent, but it isn’t something that justifies watching the rest of the movie for me. I’m actually not a fan of the Rancor fight, so it ends up feeling like filler. The only reason I’d ever have to sit down and watch the whole movie, is just to see the throneroom scenes at the end. With Rogue One, there are scenes throughout that I enjoy. I enjoy pretty much the entirety of the Jedha sequence, for example.

The Jabba segment, some banter in the 2nd act along with the speeder bike scene and the Luke v Vader/Space Battle above Endor is why I see watching ROTJ to be a mostly enjoyable experience. Not saying that Rogue One didn’t good scenes in the first two acts though; just wish there were more. Admittedly, if I had cared about Jyn more this probably wouldn’t have mattered as much as my investment in her would have made those first two acts more enjoyable. Especially considering that she gets all of her characterization in these first two acts.

ROTJ had some of the best character development in OT. While Han’s character development in ESB was great, I think Luke’s and Vader’s character developments in ROTJ were even a level above that.

I disagree. The Luke/Vader arc was great, but it was the only significant arc in the film. The other characters were just going through the motions, shells of their former selfs. TESB had great arcs for all the main characters. Every character was in a very different place personally at the end of the second installment from where they started off. This puts TESB miles ahead of ROTJ in the character development department.

Different place in terms of character? Not entirely true. For example, Luke does not actually change much in ESB. He is still this enthusiastic and reckless guy as he was at the beginning. He leaves Yoda’s training pretty much the same person (recklessly nonetheless). Leia again does not change much besides finally revealing her feelings to Han. The only one with a significant change is Han’s character. It is unfortunate that Lucas made Leia proclaim her love to Han already in ESB. I think iff he would leave that for ROTJ, those two character could be used way better in ROTJ.

In ROTJ Luke becomes completely different person compared to ANH and ESB. Same goes for Vader. While Vader was likeable and badass in ANH and ESB, he was pretty one dimensional. In ROTJ his character get a lot of depth and becomes very interesting. Even Leia and Han actually get development in ROTJ and are considerably different compared to ANH and ESB. While it might be a development you do not like but it is still a considerable development.

Anyway, I did not say ROTJ is overall the best in terms of character development. I just said that Luke’s and Vader’s character development are individually better than anything seen in ANH or ESB.

No.

I am glad we agree.

I find it highly suspicious that our resident trolls have come back at the exact same time, btw.

Am I in that group? I’ll challenge you to a dual.

Difference is you’re trolling for laughs, and it worked.

Yes that is the difference… because when you do it, it does not work.

I’d say Empire and ANH get solid 10/10

I’d probably give Jedi a 5, TFA a 5 (even though I like Jedi better), and Rogue One gets a 4. I see no reason to bother rating the prequels.

The Person in Question

I for one am a Star Wars fan who doesn’t give a shit about the so called “standards.” Last time I checked, there is absolutely no laws, or regulations on being a Star Wars fan. We are not bound to one way of looking at the films. Heresy my ass.

[Best] 1) Return Of The Jedi 10/10 (That’s right. You read correctly)
2) The Empire Strikes Back 10/10
3) Star Wars (aka A New Hope) 10/10
4) The Force Awakens & Rogue One (a tie) 9/10
5) Revenge Of The Sith 7/10
6) The Phantom Menace 6.5/10
[Worst] 7) Attack Of The Clones 5/10

In, my opinion, the Original Trilogy (specially the Theatrical Cuts) is perfect across the board. All three are amazing. Return Of The Jedi is #1 for me. There is absolutely NOTHING wrong with The Empire Strikes Back, and Star Wars (ANH)!! Each one gets even better than the last, that’s all. It’s a “tryptic” masterpiece.

One thing I didn’t like about The Force Awakens was how Carrie Fisher seemed to have had one of those surgeries on her face that makes it impossible to open one’s mouth more than a slit nor produce normal mouth/cheek-related facial expressions. Her upper lip is nearly incapable of movement.

Why should I be chastized for wishing that Leia’s mouth/lips in TFA actually inflected? She looks like she’s trying not to move her mouth when she talks; nor do her lips curve down when she frowns or up when she smiles, and it bothers me.

Well, I’m sorry, but it’s like the biggest gripe I have with TFA. Leia’s character in the OT was just so much more emotive, and Han and Luke, by comparison, don’t seem to have that failing so it stands out all the more.

It’s a big reason why I like the novelization of TFA better; because to me the narration of Leia in the audiobook sounds more convincingly like Leia than Carrie Fisher did emotively.

The only thing worse than you saying it the first time was bringing it up again 4 months later completely unprompted. Great job!
