I feel like not everyone understands what makes something white privilege.

For example, whining about the possible connotations of “thug” has nothing to do with one’s accomplishments or how homeless one is.

I still don’t understand how thug has racial connotations.

Despite everyone’s desperate attempts to explain it to you.

I just don’t understand why it is wrong for me to call some violent criminal, no matter the person’s skin color, a thug.

Maybe in 20 years it will be racist to use the word criminal.

If it is, I’m sure you’ll be here to tell us how it didn’t used to be that way and how unfortunate it is that you can’t use it anymore.

I think it is wrong to treat me like some sort of clueless jackass due to my race. I wish you’d knock that off.

I don’t treat you that way. Show me some posts where I did that.

Fun fact! We’ve been if Afghanistan for 16 years, and now Trump wants to stay! Old Trump was right, Afghanistan is a disaster.

Trump Settles on Afghan Strategy Expected to Raise Troop Levels

ALL THE TIMES DONALD TRUMP SAID THE U.S. SHOULD GET OUT OF AFGHANISTAN

Wow, that looks pretty bad. What does the #Resistance have to say about this?

Kaine: US Must Be ‘Invested’ In Afghanistan

Oh my! It’s almost like the Democrats, Trump and Neocons are all on the same page!

true, but it happens sometimes in society (Germany 1930s and the South of the USA) that ideas from the Nazis/KKK are more popular then the ideas of MLK. In order to make sure MLK’s freedom of Speech is protected in such an era, we protect the Nazis/KKK(unless they become violent and/or break the law).

You seem to think that the Nazis would respect your freedom of speech as much as you respect theirs. Was MLK’s freedom of speech protected in 1940s Germany? No, they abolished freedom of speech as soon as they could.

I find it fascinating this thread cracked 10k today. Warbler being #10,000. It’s only been around since January.

Also, I find it heartening that everything has recently been quite sedate and civil on balance, despite the current state of the (inter?)national discourse.

I’m pretty sure you can compile this sort of thing for pretty much every single issue Trump has ever spoken out about.

https://www.vanityfair.com/news/2017/08/trump-goes-off-script-in-hour-long-public-meltdown

After walking onstage at the Phoenix Convention Center to “God Bless The U.S.A.” for what was, effectively, a 2020 campaign rally, Donald Trump repeatedly ditched his TelePrompTer and went off-script as he ranted about being mistreated by the media in the wake of Charlottesville, relentlessly attacked an array of enemies including both of Arizona’s Republican senators, and portrayed himself as the true victim of a violent clash between white supremacists and counter-protesters that left one woman dead. Journalists and other social media commentators watched, stunned, as he proceeded to spend the rest of his hourlong speech unloading on the mainstream press, praising a CNN pundit who was fired for tweeting a Nazi slogan, and re-litigating his entire response to Charlottesville, line by line, in what has become a hallmark of the Trump presidency: a full-on public meltdown.

The only truly stunning thing about this is that anyone would be stunned by it anymore.

I’m not sure about that, especially with all the middle fingers thrown around.

Yes let’s bring that up in the name of civility. Not like it was weeks ago and the person apologized repeatedly or anything.

NPR noted that Trump’s speach on Afghanistan was carefully crafted to say he was staying there “despite his better judgment”. That way he can claim victory regardless of the outcome. If things go bad or stay mired, he can blame others and say “see, I was right”.

The opening of the story is not what the story is really about, but still…

Just before President Trump strolled onto the rally stage on Tuesday evening, four speakers took turns carefully denouncing hate, calling for unity and ever so subtly assuring the audience that the president is not racist.

Housing and Urban Development Secretary Ben Carson proclaimed that “our lives are too short to let our differences divide us.” Alveda King, the niece of Martin Luther King Jr., led everyone in singing a few lines of “How Great Thou Art.” Evangelist Franklin Graham prayed for the politically and racially divided nation and asked the Lord to shut the mouths of “those in this country who want to divide, who want to preach hate.”

I stopped there and wondered if Evangelist Franklin Graham knew what event he was speaking at.
