The "Name that Movie/TV Show I Can't Name" Thread — Page 4

This was a black and white film I caught a portion of on TV not too long ago but never got the name of it. A woman is about to be married in a church or in a courthouse and then stabs the groom with a knife at the altar and then drives away (in the rain I think) till she comes to a house in the country with other occupants.

Describe it? Maybe one of us’ll find it familiar and recall which movie it corresponds to.

What if the only thing you’ve got in trying to remember a movie is a VHS cover or a poster?

If you have either the VHS cover or movie poster, look for large, letter-like symbols. There’s a good chance they may spell out the name of the film. 😉

OK,

The first is a Japanese movie poster showing a cityscape of buildings at night where a woman on an apartment building terrace is being struck by lightning from the sky while being surrounded by a white aura/glow with her arms spread out (and wearing a white gown I believe) and based on a description, she has psychic powers.

The second is a VHS cover from way back during the video store days. It was a werewolf horror film where on the front cover it showed wolf eye’s on a nighttime cityscape background and at the bottom showed a fence with bloody scratch marks on it. The back of the cover showed an image of a close up of a quadruped wolf in a sitting down position in an alleyway bathed in red and blue police siren lights. It might’ve been from the late 80’s or early 90’s.

My friend and I watched a movie sometime around 1992/3 and I remember the cover had a boy on his bike (which we decided was a good enough reason to rent it). The plot was about the kid being transported to a dream-like world that was made up of (it seemed like) bits of other movies. The villain was trying to steal the colour from the world, or something.

I’m reasonably sure the title was the boy’s name followed by adventure, or excellent adventure, or amazing adventure.

This has been niggling at me for a VERY long time. Any ideas?

EDIT: The villain also sang a song about stealing the colour!

I’VE FOUND IT!!!

Known variously as, “Andy Colby’s Incredibly Awesome Adventure”,“Andy Colby’s Incredible Adventure” or (somewhat unexpectedly) “Andy and the Airwave Rangers”. It was released in 1988, was produced by Roger Corman and stars nobody you’ve ever heard of. Wonderfully, the film’s poster on the Wikipedia page has somebody riding a bike - just like I remembered!

The trailer is a masterpiece of awful.

That’s 25 years of weight off my shoulders but the question now is, dare I watch it again?!

The beginning of the trailer reminds me of The Never Ending Story, when he meets the old man in the Library/Book store. The main premise reminds me of a John Ritter movie, Stay Tuned (1992). Very similar idea of people getting sucked into the ‘tv land’.

Should have called it “Andy and the Airwave Avengers”. Now that’s a catchy title.

I’d still love some ideas on this one I posted last year:

I think it was a late 60s/early 70s American counter-culture/hippy(possibly?) desert road movie, of the Easy Rider variety. I saw it when I was probably too young to understand what it was all about but found it weird and interesting and for some reason it stuck with me like a dream half-remembered. I think I recall a scene with characters blowing smoke rings outside a diner/bar/ranch-porch or something.

Maybe some fresh faces/eyes can offer suggestions?

Hopefully someone will be able to identify this next movie, 'cause I’ve spent decades in the dark and the Googles do nothing.

In the summer of '96, I watched on TV this old movie. I can’t say how old it was, but it was in colour, so I’d wager it’s from the late '50s-early '60s. IIRC, it was a UK production, 'cause I recall at least most of the cast having English accents. I don’t remember what the plot actually was, but I believe it was set in a seaside town somewhere in the 19th or early 20th century, and it featured pirate ghosts (I recall a scene where an old, dry skeleton took on its lost flesh, becoming a flesh-and-blood pirate, scaring the bejeesus out of some mortals.). This wasn’t a horror movie; it was some type of fantasy-adventure flick aimed at kids, and I think it may have been a Disney production.

The only Disney pirate flick I can think of from that period is Blackbeard’s Ghost.

Where were you in '77?

Hmm, that could be the movie I’m thinking about. If it is, I’ve grossly misremembered its sequence of events.

[JEDIT]

It’s possible I conflated Blackbeard’s Ghost with this episode of Are You Afraid of the Dark? Truly wonderful, the mind of a child is.

This was an animated film I had seen on TV when I was young. It was about a boy who lived alone on a planet (like the King Kai planet depicted in DBZ) that only had a house with two walls, a floor, and no roof with just a bed and stove. I vividly remember scenes of him making tea and him running then falling over hurting his knee.

He then leaves the planet by capturing a shooting star with a net, riding it through space (while a voiceover narration plays) until he arrives on a desert land and meets a moustached man who is a pilot whose plane has broken down in the desert. Another scene I recall is a sandstorm happens there and the pilot covers him and the boy with a blanket.

Ah, ‘Are You Afraid of the Dark’, another Canadian staple. YTV was great back in the day.

I still watch and love the show, though most of my enjoyment these days comes from its cheesiness than any real fear factor.

It does sound like The Little Prince. I used to watch the 70’s cartoon version.
Here’s the trailer from the 1974 movie - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=B8w0iRQDAl8

I hope this helps.

It was actually two episodes of the TV series The Adventures of the Little Prince (Hoshi no Ojisama Puchi Puransu) in english dub.

Back in 1992-1993, I watched on TV this story about a short, bald, aging, Archie Bunker-looking guy who was being pursued by Death. At some point in the story, Death’s scythe left a scratch on the guy’s face. Death was an articulated skeleton in a black, hooded robe, not an actor in makeup. I think it was from a horror anthology series, but it might’ve been from a movie. I remember it distinctly, 'cause it was my first exposure to the popular portrayal of Death as a scythe-wielding skeleton.

I just stumbled across this thread, and thought I’d post this to see if this rings a bell for anyone:

I remember seeing the end a movie sometime around the late 70s or early 80s (possibly made-for-TV) in which people were shooting at what I remember to be some kind of grey tar/sludge monster. I seem to remember this shootout happening on a ship, with the creature possibly at the top of a mast, but I can’t recall this part with certainty. I believe the monster is then shot/killed, and it seems like a happy ending is about to unfold, but I remember the last shot pans or zooms in on some sort of vat/drum full of the same grey, bubbling liquid that the monster was made of, which I guess was meant to insinuate the creature could return.

Sound familiar to anyone?

Amazingly, I found it: The Intruder Within.

I’m shocked at how accurately I remembered the film’s ending, considering the first and last time I saw this was 37 years ago, at which time I would have only been 3 years old.

There was a man and a woman crouched beside a machine spying on the villain, who was demonstrating said machine, which caused the woman to be absorbed by the machine and spat out the other side as ghost.

The following’s a movie I remember having watched when I was about six years old.

It was some '70s exploitation flick about a long-haired, bearded trucker who had a ladyfriend with short dark hair. The movie ended with the guy crossing an unsafe bridge in his rig, whereupon his truck blew up or blew out or the bridge collapsed or something like that and he was killed. His ladyfriend survived, as she hadn’t been in the truck with him. I recall the last shot of her showing her with some other guys, smiling/laughing, which I found strange, 'cause I thought she’d liked the trucker.

There was a movie I remember watching part of with my mom when I was very young. All I remember was that it had something to do with oil fields in Texas (at least I assume Texas). I left when she told me it was over three hours long, and the small me had not the patience for it.
