Please, nobody get any funny ideas and write Disney/Lucasfilm as if you’re a spokesperson for this site. In fact, don’t mention us at all.

Did I present myself as a a spokesperson for this site, or did I say that I will write to Disney? I just gave my opinion (“IMHO”) in a forum (which is the best place to share opinionS, isn’t it ?).
No need to be rude please.

I never said you had or were going to. It was a general warning. We’ve had problems in the past with people who decided to post/do things elsewhere and involved or invoked this site. That is all.

The community had the same issues with people selling various OUT preservations back in the DVD days. Complaining to ebay did nothing that I can remember, and I’d prefer not to raise our profile any higher than it already is. We have a nice thing going where people are being allowed to work around the lack of an official OUT Blu-ray release without the copyright owners bringing the hammer down. Let’s keep it that way.

This is just part of being a content producer in the fan edit/preservation community. Somebody is going to put your work on a disc and sell it. No way around it.

It’s just frustrating to see Disney do nothing about releasing the ORIGINAL original trilogy, they are missing a huge opportunity and Harmy’s work is being sold for profit but I see the point of keeping a lower profile.

Things have descended to the point where it’s easier to score some weed than watch the OOT. 😉

Look at it this way. A large number of bootleg sales is a good indicator for the powers that be, that there’s a market for an OOT release.

In practical terms, this is an unsolvable problem. If there’s money to be had, someone will be there to have it… The world is full of assholes. Reporting this one piece of shit will do absolutely nothing in the grand scheme of things as even if he gets shut down another will simply pop up in the vacuum of his absence. It’s frustrating, and obnoxious, but there’s really nothing you can do to stop it.

I would, however, be all for exposing who this person is (especially if he’s a member of this site, and I think that’s likely). If he sells on eBay, or accepts Paypal, nabbing his personal details shouldn’t be difficult. I’m always game for a good public shaming. We can strip him naked and march him through the streets - really ring the shame bell the whole time just like Game of Thrones. Everyone will see his beaver, his full wonderful beaver.

That sounds a lot like doxxing, and I’m not cool with that. And it opens a whole can of potential legal worms I’m sure Jay doesn’t need or want. It wouldn’t help identifying if they were a member here to begin with.

Other people have already mentioned this, kinda, but maybe this is a good thing. If I owned Star Wars and saw that people were selling illegal copies of the OOT, that would be really good reason for me to start selling legal copies of the OOT.

That might be naive, though.

Tricky one… You just have to make sure that you let people know it is free… But you need to own the Blu-rays

But he is offering a disc burning service just not at all at cost price and profiteering.

It’s cheaper in Oregon too.

You people crack me up. You F* around with copyrighted material then you cry when you see people selling the s*! Just stop, ok you make yourselves look stupid. Maybe if you made the “free” versions easier to get the masses out there would not resort to paying for them. Not to mention it might not be wise to keep brining undo attention to this site as well. I had no problem getting these but to your average non computer person its a pretty difficult task.

Because “f*ing around with copyrighted material” is not a crime. We own the movies, we can do with them what we please, so long as it is for personal use. It is, however, a crime to sell duplicates of that copyrighted material, altered or not. And we “cry” about it because it’s actually a pretty serious issue, as we haven’t had issues with Disney or Lucasfilm primarily because nobody is making money and they don’t see us as a threat. It was just slightly annoying when it was only a couple people here and there selling these on ebay, but the number of people selling these on ebay and other sites is growing astronomically to the point where it will likely soon draw the attention of Lucasfilm Legal and not in a good way, as they will see their actions as a reflection of us on the forum. Now are you done acting like a jerk? Can you provide something productive to the conversation instead of annoyingly complaining about how annoying we are? If not, kindly go away.

“You people”? That’s odd coming from someone who’s been on the site for several years and was recently praising Harmy.

I wouldn’t mind if someone was only charging for the material costs of making a copy. MST3K fans have done this for years with the unreleased episodes. And tape traders since before the internets only asked you send them a blank tape or something they were looking for in return. But that guy on Ebay cleared around 4k in a month doing this. Not cool.

I haven’t downloaded that much in the way of projects, since the people I’ve partnered with are good about mailing me a copy, but it’s a lot easier now than 16 years ago when I was trying to download a movie off of usenet. Finding that one missing file that didn’t propagate to the newsserver you were on was sheer joy.

If you have suggestions as to how to make projects easier for the computer novices out there to find, by all means fire away. But a friendlier attitude might be nice too.

If you have a problem with the legality of the DEED than why did you download it?

Imagine if you were Harmy, towne32, njvc, or any of the countless people that make these fan projects and all of the work you did for free is being sold for profit, wouldn’t you be a bit angry?

What about me designing a box set and posting the files online for free, only to see someone selling them?

As for the movies, WORK for them. I didn’t know what uloz or myspleen was. I figured it out. I wanted it badly enough that I put in the research. I didn’t beg others to send me the files.

Then as repayment to the community, I designed a box set and put it all online for free. That’s my labor, my design that I shared for FREE and some asshole is printing them out and selling them on eBay. Damn right I’m reporting them.

I also had to remove my designs to try to stop the profiteering. So some assholes ruin it for EVERYBODY.
