What.
That sounds like a frankenfruit.
Anybody else think it’s dumb that Jabba is constantly referred to as “Jabba the Hutt” when Hutt is just the species he is? When I was a little kid, I thought “Hutt” must mean “mob boss” or something.
In old mythology sometimes people are referred to by their ethnicity if it’s foreign to the context the story is set in. I’m recalling a biblical character referred to as Jesham the Arab, for example.
I know what you mean, but in the SW galaxy creatures from all over to travel everywhere and mixed society seems to be the norm.
Heck, in Jabba’s palace, everybody seems to be from somewhere else.
Jabba’s really not foreign in the context he’s presented in. But he is presented as being a powerful crime lord, so it just seems to make more sense if “the Hutt” is his title, a la “the Godfather”.
I’m not sayin’ this was ever the intention, but it works for me.

They’re just apples soaked in grape juice.
Disappointing as all hell.
When I heard about em, I was hoping for apple sized grapes.
Apples soaked in grape juice? That’s all?
In this day and age, all exotic not-occurring-in-nature foods should be genetically modified, consarn it!
Was the Space-Pear slicing scene in Attack of the Clones the only time we’ve seen people eating fruit in anything Star Wars?
In the TV shows characters eat fruit, and I’m sure it pops up in the books and comics.
Not enough people read the EU.

Are they all like that though? The one I had was purple on the inside, but not the outside, and truly tasted like a grape flavored apple.

I definitely agree. In fact, other than sand people and jawas, who knows what’s actually native to Tatooine?

The tosche station, home of power convertors so good they’re just something you play with with your friends to waste time.
Robot Chicken reveled the real reason Luke wanted to go to Tosche Station.

Yep. They’re just as you said, “grape flavored apples”. Just apples that have soaked up grape juice.
the Grapple website said:
Using a special patented process we combine concentrated grape flavor with pure water then gently bathe the apples in this delicious grape mixture.
There’s no Step 2. That’s it. Apples soaked in grape juice.
(Sorry, not grape juice but “concentrated grape flavor and water”…)
On this, the 40th anniversary of Elvis’ death, did The King ever see Star Wars?

Yes, and he loved it. Tried to buy a private copy from George. George turned him down.
Shame. Elvis Presley saves Star Wars! would be a fantastic headline.
Re-posting this from another thread, but looking for any feed back on the idea. It’s been personal canon to me for years, but I’m interested in what others might think.
She was once Beru Skywalker, Anikins sister. She was never trained, but is force sensitive and can see things before they happen. She married Owen Lars who never agreed with such “wizardry”. She stayed behind with Owen while her brother left on an “idealistic crusade” with Obi-Wan.
Watch the films with this in mind and it works just as well as Obi-Wan’s twisting the truth to Luke.
For me, it makes the entire backstory more interesting as both Owen and Beru would be strongly connected to and involved with the plot of the PT. It would give an opportunity for a good female character and much better relationship dynamics.
I run with Beru being Anakin’s sister in my canon, too. The idea that she she might have been an untrained Force-sensitive never once crossed my mind, though.
To paraphrase a quote from The Simpsons: “It’s an intriguing theory. I may have to steal it.”
Extremely gentle spoiler alert. I’d have posted this in the Ep VIII thread but I don’t go in there!
I have no doubt these toys will be this year’s Christmas Buzz Lightyears.
I’ll be happy to repost it in there for you.
Is it saying Do it?

Do you know what? I think it is!
Palpatine clone confirmed!!!
Even though the 1983 Jabba still looks great today, I suspect that he’ll be CG in all of the standalone movies that feature him. It’s not a big deal since CGI characters often look fine in big budget movies, but I don’t seen how it could look any better than the original puppet.
The Person in Question
There was a rumor many months ago about a new Jabba puppet being made.

With digital photography and computer manipulation, it would be hard to tell the difference. It’d still look worse.
I don’t know, the digital tweaking of men in minotaur suits in the last Narnia flick looked good to my old peepers.
I still think it’s good to have something for the actors to play off of instead of a ping pong ball on a stick.

In ANH, is Han and Chewie suddenly appearing in the MF out of nowhere saving Luke from Vader and the other two tie fighters in the trench run a “Deus ex Machina” moment?
http://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Main/DeusExMachina
As they were established earlier in the movie, I’d say no. Luke still has to make an almost impossible shot to destroy the DS. Han just buys him a little more time. If Obi Wan’s ghost appeared to Vader and caused him to crash into his wingmen, then it would be a Deus ex Machina, as Force Ghosts weren’t established yet.
