If it makes you feel any better, I really dislike Plug Head’s design.

I didn’t notice his anti-Semitic characterization, however.

Although I have nothing against Simon Pegg, this uninspired ass-ugly alien blob makes Dexter Jettster look good in comparison.
Not As Gross

Hey, you said he was a Watto rehash this morning, make up your mind.

Dexter is meant to be a sympathetic character. Plutt is there to be ugly, unpleasant and a factor in Rey’s miserable day to day existence. What her parents were thinking leaving her with him I have no idea.

Plutt is also not very smart. You steal the most famous hunk of junk ship in the galaxy and then discover you can’t take it anywhere because it’s too “hot”.

Dex’s CG holds up terribly. Also he has a moustache. And a butt crack. Plutt wins this round.

In all fairness they may have cut that scene before the CGI was finished.

I think he’s actually one of the worst-looking practical aliens I’ve seen in a while, in both design and execution.

I suspect his face was inspired by the Blobfish. Don’t google it unless you want it swimming in your dreams tonight. 😉

great observation ! Unkar Plutt was indeed inspired by the blobfish .There was a small hard back book put out through readers digest called Rey’s survival guide in which she frequently refers to him as the blobfish .It is actually a pretty good read and gives a lot of insight into Rey’s daily life on Jakku .It contains backstory that I feel would have made the novelization of TFA a lot better , but I suspect Alan Dean Foster had a mandate to hold back so Disney could do a double dip into the fans pocket books . I enjoyed the survival guide more than the TFA novel and I loved Foster’s adaptation of the original Star Wars movie that he ghost wrote using the name George Lucas . That one had loads of characterization and world building.
