If you could only remove one Special Edition change...? — Page 4

I wouldn’t buy this release. There’s too much that’s wrong with it for me to be satisfied with the removal of any one change. I’d have to go with the addition of Jabba into the first film as being the most egregious change, so that would go.

Yes! This guy gets it.

All of changes on Tatooine, including Jabba, Greedo shooting, the dinosaurs and CGI slapstick, and Ben’s scream, are all so terrible they ruin the film.

In Empire, the Wampa cave, the changed emperor scene, and some of the Cloud City shots are severely messed up, but undoubtedly the shuttle cutscene from ROTJ stops the film dead in its tracks and ruins the frantic pace of the climax.

Jedi Rocks. Hayden’s Ghost. NOOOOO. Return of the Jedi all of those have to be ranked #1 too.

Jabba in the hanger bothers me the most. It removed the very interesting and ongoing mystery of who this Jabba guy was during the first two movies. The fact that he is a slug alien thing was a cool reveal. Also it introduces a weird continuity error because of Greedos presence in the background. So I would cut that one.

There are too many scenes that Good 'Ol George changed for the “better”, that it’s hard to choose.

Like the majority of people here, I too will have to remove Hayden’s Force Ghost.

There is only one change that brings the climax of one of the films to a screeching halt. Vader boarding his star destroyer in ESB is therefore, hands down, without a doubt, the absolute worst SE change.

Jedi Rocks is the most embarrassing moment in any SW film but as a friend pointed out to me recently when we were discussing SE changes it is easily skippable (as is much of that portion of the film, sadly). Same goes for the Jabba scene in ANH. Still, terrible changes.

The color changes are pretty gnarly though I’m not sure I’d really classify that as a “change.” More like a colossal fuckup.

HAN v GREEDO

It didn’t sit right with me during the Special Edition’s theatrical debut and it still bugs the heck out of me today.

Kudos, btw, to Disney for showing Han throwing a mofo into the mouth of a rathtar as he flees in Force Awakens. I interpret it as someone’s way of winking at the audience and telling us, “Yup, we ALL know that Han is the type of guy who would totally shoot first”.

Really gets tough to narrow it down to one change. As awful was the Jabba scene in ANH, Vader’s “No!” in ROTJ, and the voice replacement for Boba Fett (I don’t really remind Ian McDiarmid coming back as the Emperor), I would probably pick Jedi Rocks if I can only choose one.

The shuttle scene in Empire. If that one part was removed, then at least one of the SE films would be mostly tolerable. Star Wars and Jedi have too many deal breakers for just one removal to make any significant difference.

In 1997, Greedo shooting.

In 2004, Hayden.

In 2011, Nooooo.

Hayden’s ghost too !!! Sebastian Shaw should be the one and only ghost of Anankin !!!

Does the “entire audio track” count as one? Lucas fucking with Williams score just makes me the most furious.

Thank the maker for fan-restorations. Haven’t seen the SEs in years…

Other than the mistake of the missing cue in epiv, what are you talking about? There are a few changes to the score in ESB, but one was to fix a jump cut that wasn’t williams doing anyway, and the other was to restore a scene to how williams originally scored it.

Please restore the original sound mix. Ben Burtt was a sound genius and won an Oscar Special Achievement for Star Wars.

Absolutely “Nnnoooooooo!” In a movie that lacks much subtlety, the quiet moment is missed.

Honestly, everything else–if I really had to–I could live with. I even get a good laugh out of how bad the new Krayt Dragon sound is.

For instance the attack on the Death Star- the score gets completely “overrun” by the Starfighter engines.

Even if it might make sense to some people, I never liked them changing Boba Fett’s voice to sound like Jango Fett.

Yeah, the idea is stupid because there’s a million different things that affect the creation and development of a person’s voice. Nobody sounds exactly like their parents. The original Bobba Fett voice could easily be the voice of a Jango clone.
And the execution is terrible. It sounds dubbed in and the delivery of every line is awful.

Those are the reasons why I hated it when I first laid ears on it and another issue I had with it was if he’s going to sound like Jango Fett because he’s a clone, then why didn’t all the stormtroopers sound like him?

Agreed. Not to mention, things happen in people’s lives to affect their voices. As a bounty hunter, maybe he sustained a throat injury? Maybe he smoked too many death sticks. Hell, maybe the helmet just distorts his voice. It’s so bizarre to me that Lucas obsesses over continuity details like Boba Fett’s voice, but then he has Padme die minutes after giving birth, Uncle Owen meets C3PO years before ANH, gives R2D2 rocket boosters, etc.

ANH - the rock in front of R2 (2011 br)
TESB - restore “It’s a good thing you don’t taste good” (1997 SE)
ROTJ - the oversided door to Jabba’s palace (2011 br)

You can only make one change to each and those are the ones you pick?

Oh ok, I guess you just didn’t understand what thread you were in.

Only one for the trilogy? Jedi Rocks. I can live with people not thinking Star Wars is the superb trilogy it is. But I can’t live with people hating Star Wars, which is exactly what Jedi Rocks makes people do.

Can I do one per movie in the OT? Jabba, Alert my Star Destroyer, and Jedi Rocks.

Can I also cover TPM? Then restore the original podrace.

I don’t really give a damn about the rest of the PT or TFA’s changes.
