When Did The Star Wars Prequels Become Cool? — Page 6

… if the PT isn’t the absolute last of the story, it stings less.

First off, that’s the type of lucid discussion that sets us apart. Well done, sir. I don’t have a strong thought one way or another because I’m unfamiliar with the PT. That said, the portion of your statement I’ve quoted is very relevant to my Star Wars world. With Rogue One far and away being the adult Star Wars film I’ve always wanted, it relieved me of my last bit of anger over Lucas’ decades of lying.

The suppression of Star Wars77 no longer being the last thing I cared about has made that very suppression not sting as much, to use your term.

but also remember, this is a bubble. There’ve always been lots of people who loved the prequels even back then.

The bubble is what I think keeps us from stepping away at times. We’re emotionally invested in a way casual fans are not. I sometimes have to remind myself that Star Wars77 is A movie, not THE movie.

Besides, Rogue One is SO much better. 😉

Rogue One was awful. I find it even less watchable than the other prequels, if not “worse” as a film. At least they weren’t just fucking boring. At least they were unique. At least they were memorable, with memorable moments and memorable characters. At least they actually felt like Stat Wars and didn’t feel like some generic shitty sci-fi would-be flop that just happened to have a Star Wars skin on it.

The fact that Rogue One has a terrible, rushed score from some random composer rather than a John Williams score is enough to demonstrate just how un-Star Wars this film really is. It’s dull, drab, and dreary. Star Wars films are supposed to be full of excitement, color, and life. Things Rogue One had zero of. Only thing it had less of was characters with personality, characters the audience related to and were invested in, and a story that was interesting and unpredictable. It did have a lot of cringeworthy and forced fan service though, I’ll give it that.

I don’t give a damn how “adult” the movie is, because adult movies can still suck. If anything it’s the opposite of what I look for when I watch Star Wars anyway, which is to revive the child inside me for a moment. Rogue One killed him.

I’m going to admit that I’m not particularly fond of this complete dismissal of Rogue One’s fundamental problems as it pertains to film making and storytelling because the film is grittier than the others. That kind of thinking usually falls apart when you think about the movies in retrospect…

Michael Giannchino has a pretty impressive body of work. He is not some “random” composer. Considering he was brought in to replace someone else at the eleventh hour, I thought he did a good job. John Williams scoring the non saga films was never in the cards.

At least they put real people in armor again now instead of CGI clone troopers like the prequels. What a stupid waste.

Rogue One killed your childhood? Ok.

When I was a kid playing with Star Wars toys, I would imagine scenes like the space battle in Rogue One and Vader’s corridor scene. I certainly didn’t imagine a mentally challenged fish person stepping in poop, senate trade negotiations, or awkward romantic dialogue.

I’m glad you didn’t like this movie…because no one worth their salt would ever compare rogue one with the star wars prequels and say the prequels are better in anyway

The prequels were far worse than anything in rogue one…even twilight is a much more well written film objectively than any of the prequels

Damn

The PT had better soundtracks but Rogue One crushes them in every other facet though.

They became cool after I strangled them to death with my own two hands and dumped their bodies down a well. They became very cool.

I hear the police sirens now. Gotta go. . . .

This guy that I hate from work was talking to me and he brought up Star Wars and how he and his friends watched the Phantom Menace and were going to watch the other two prequels this weekend, to which I responded, “Why?” He said that the prequels are really bad and they’re hilarious to make fun of. I don’t know where this confusion comes from. The prequels are boring. They aren’t even all that bad in a Plan Nine way either. They’re just really, really boring.

Maybe they’re going to watch the Rifftrax versions?

Episode 1 is just really, really boring.

Now Attack of the Clones on the other hand…I can have a good time making fun of that for the sheer amount of cringe moments.

It’s only fun if they plan to watch the Backstroke of the West version. Even then pretty boring…

They never became cool, they were bad from day one. I haven’t seen them in a long time, they’re too painful an experience to ever watch again.
