I’ve already got one: $3,500. Who’s going to pay that much? Not even the most gullible of Kickstarters will do it.

Ouch. Yeah. Like I said it’s up to you, but that price is insane. Especially when you factor in the scanning expenses. To put it in perspective though, BATB only cost us a fraction of that. Though with SW you’d probably be getting something in really great condition for that money - important if you want to watch it on film, probably less important if you’re going to scan it.

Worth noting that BATB is a considerably newer film than SW and as such there is probably a larger quantity of better quality prints out there. Supply and demand, you know?

Yep I agree, it’s a bit off-topic though. Still for $3500, you’d need maybe 20-30 people willing to put in $100-200 each. And you may be able to make back most or all of it by selling it later, but there’s no guarantees there.

So if you’re passionate about the film then go for it! Start with what you can put in, and then look for other people who would be willing to contribute. Once you own the film you can then store it and begin collecting money for scanning costs, etc. It’s not as if it has to be scanned immediately!

For the record I am keeping an eye out for other reasonably priced Disney prints, and I’m sure so are others.

Good, because I think - and I’m sure everyone agrees with me - Cinderella needs a new, superior restoration, and I can’t afford to do it.

A 35mm print of Batman (1989) has appeared on ebay.

A 16mm print also showed up.

EDIT: I thought I’d also mention a 35mm print of Home Alone 2 that’s on there.

Is anybody going for these prints of The Godfather and The Godfather Part II? The first one has only about four hours left as of this time, though.

Almost all 1.85:1 films were shot Full aperture 4-perf 35mm film. Today, almost all such movies are shot on 16:9 digital and then slightly cropped from top and bottom to create 1.85:1 DCPs.

Godfather series, Jurassic Park series, etc were all shot full frame then masked vertically during projection. Most of those films were put on VHS and then DVD with virtually the entire filmed image as “Full Screen” editions, because television was 4:3 back then, which is basically same as 4-perf full aperture aspect ratio.

Even widescreen films like Terminator 2, Titanic, True Lies were shot on super 35mm, which gives a usable area of about 1.66:1, and has a common top framing. The bottom image is unusable as far as I understand. Then they were cropped and given an anamorphic squeeze optically during the internegative stage of processing. The release prints contained this 2:1 anamorphic squeezed image that was then un-squeezed by a special lens during projection, to fill the entire cinemascope screen.

Man, I would love to watch an open matte version of The Godfather. Since I definitely can’t afford the print, I’ll ask this: was there an open matte DVD?

“You don’t really mean you’ll kill me, do you?” - Juror 8
“Silence, Earthling! My name is Darth Vader. I am an extra-terrestrial from the planet Vulcan!” - Calvin “Marty” Klein

I’d be up for contributing to Batman for sure. Wouldn’t be able to cover the costs of the print to ensure we win the auction plus my next few payments are spoken for in regards to a few other scanning projects but I can say for sure I’d put in at least a couple hundred for it

Edit: The Sting would be nice too http://www.ebay.com/itm/35mm-The-STING-full-feature-film-print-1973-Robert-Redford-Paul-Newman-movie/172744680461?_trksid=p2047675.c100012.m1985&_trkparms=aid%3D777003%26algo%3DDISCL.MBE%26ao%3D2%26asc%3D45041%26meid%3D1debc088658843dfbe3b2306e3820759%26pid%3D100012%26rk%3D1%26rkt%3D4%26sd%3D263038403964
