I just don’t care about Batman.

Once I would’ve chastised you for saying this, but years of fanboys wanking the character off have left me happy whenever someone comes right out and says they don’t worship at the Church of Batman the Redeemer.

I just don’t care about Batman. I haven’t seen those movies since they were in theaters.

That’s no excuse for ranking Forever over '89.

Having Schumacher anywhere near Batman was a mistake. I don’t even think Schumacher should be allowed to direct traffic, let alone a great franchise that was well established by Burton. I liked some elements of Forever. I think there were some good ideas behind it, and I actually liked some of the casting choices.

Like stated above, Tommy Lee Jones could’ve made a good Two-Face…if he’d played it straight. Jim Carrey could’ve been a phenomenal Riddler, if he’d played it straight. That was still during a time when people weren’t sure what to do with Jim Carrey. People weren’t giving him scripts that catered to his abilities. I’d argue the same with Kilmer. Kilmer has proven to be a great actor, but he must be allergic to good scripts.

I don’t think '89 was a perfect film, but it was a darn good Batman film. However, even though I like Prince, I don’t like his music in Batman…that’s entering Schumacher territory. It also ages the film incredibly. That’s why I’m such a fan of Batman Returns. It’s all the positive elements of the first film, but more in Burton’s style. I wish the first had been more gothic and stark like Returns was.

"The other versions will disappear. Even the 35 million tapes of Star Wars out there won’t last more than 30 or 40 years. A hundred years from now, the only version of the movie that anyone will remember will be the DVD version [of the Special Edition], and you’ll be able to project it on a 20’ by 40’ screen with perfect quality. I think it’s the director’s prerogative, not the studio’s to go back and reinvent a movie." - George Lucas

Easy to forget Batman Returns was criticized as being too dark for the kiddies. Even McDonald’s got flak for Happy Meals tied to the film, so of course the pendulum was going to swing the other way once Warner Bros. suits got nervous.

Schumacher can make a good film. I thought Phantom Of The Opera was great.

Ah man I was with you until that point. I love the Batman soundtrack on its own, and it works fine in the film as well.

They really should have given Billy Dee Williams a shot at the role. He was Harvey Dent in the first film after all.

Sorry if this comes across as racist, but Bill Dee Williams is black. Harvey Dent/Two face is white in the comics. I’d be saying the same thing if a while actor were cast as John Steward(Green Lantern).

I think all of the Batman movies are stupid. But, Returns ends with Face to Face by Siouxsie and the Banshees and Forever ends with Hold Me, Thrill Me, Kiss Me, Kill Me by U2, so those are the best ones.

???

Not sure what you’re questioning…

Why you think all the Batman movies are stupid and why you think Returns and Forever are the best Batman movies. This means you think they are better than Batman(1989), Begins, and TDK. Sorry, but there is no way in hell Forever is better than TDK.

Yeah but unlike mine, his aren’t good ones.

Williams was great as Dent in the few scenes he had, and he’s one of the few exceptions I have for character skin color changes. I think he could have been a great Two Face despite the inaccuracy.

I’d be saying the same thing if a while actor were cast as John Steward(Green Lantern).

If they want a white Green Lantern, they have a white character to fall on. Also who cares about Green Lantern? 😉

It is admittedly difficult to change the race of some characters, but really, Harvey Dent could have easily been played by Billy Dee Williams, and I would have enjoyed to see his take on the character. As was said, Tommy Lee Jones could have done a good job if he’d played him straight. Jones is a great actor. But I thought Williams could have really taken an interesting approach.

I don’t understand the problem with changing the race of a fictional character. The race was made up to begin with.

Well, it all depends. How married are you to the source material? Does the change bring a new dimension to the character, or is it just tokenism/whitewashing?

Personally, I don’t like race swapping 99% of the time because 99% of the time, it is just tokenism/whitewashing.

If a movie is part 2 of a story, ok fine. If Luke was black in ESB, that wouldn’t make sense. But otherwise, there is absolutely no reason Luke couldn’t be black in a remake. Because there was no reason he had to be white in the original.

Uh, he did play Harvey Dent in the 1989 Batman movie?

It’s Two Face he was denied until the Lego Batman movie this year.

Yes there is, because a remake of the original star wars should result in jailings.

It changes the character’s appearance. It can also affect the personality of the character. You believe that white privilege is real. Therefore, wouldn’t having the privilege vs not having it effect a character’s personality?

  1. the 89 Batman universe was a little more serious than the 1960’s spoof.
  2. I wasn’t too crazy about the change in race there either.

Star Wars isn’t an adaption of a comic book. And somehow, I don’t think it would work any better than a female Starbuck.

The John Steward Green Lantern was never white in any comic book version. Yeah there is Hal Jordan and Guy Gardner, but they are different characters. The John Steward Green Lantern should never be player by a white actor.

Also who cares about Green Lantern? 😉

This misses the point.
