I lived in Canada for two years and the “eh” has worked its way deep into my vocabulary. It’s a bit annoying.

I saw this post on the fanedit.org Facebook…

We’ve had a few reports of people not being able to access the forums. This doesn’t seem to be widespread

I can’t access the forums (or anything much beyond the homepage) since last night. Anyone else having the same problem? If anybody else from fanedit.org reads this who can access the forums still, could they tell somebody about the problem. Thanks.

btw I can’t access it from multiple browsers and devices.

Seems okay to me, I’ll see if I can tell someone for you.

I’ll give the Canadians this: Ending a statement with “Eh?” is a fantastic conversation device.
I mean, you could say to someone outside the venue: “Wow! That was a great show!” and that’d be the end of it. BUT, if you say “Wow! That was a great show, eh!?”, they have to respond, or be an asshole. I met a buncha Canadians at a music festival in 2000 and have used this device ever since.

I’m glad you like to use ‘eh’. Yeah, music festivals are great places to meet people from all over the world.

Weird! My post was all garbled.

I was able to access the fanedit.org forums page.

Ryan, it looked like you were online so I sent you a PM, but then I figured maybe you could only get the main page and nothing more and that could still look like you were online, so I ended up sending Q2 a PM about it just in case, not positive if he was the guy to PM or not but I think so, anyway I did what I could. Let me know if I can be of further assistance.

I’m having no trouble with Chrome.

JEDIT:

SilverWook mentioned last night that he couldn’t get there via Firefox, but it worked with IE. I just tried with IE and had no trouble.

Q2 here from FE. So yes, several users are having trouble accessing the forums though I’m not sure why. At first I thought it might be a regional issue (i.e. west coast of US) or a DNS issue but there is no consistency with either of those. The server logs aren’t showing anything either. To make the problem more difficult, sites like http://downforeveryoneorjustme.com show it’s working fine, so why some can access the forum and others can’t is a mystery. Be aware that I am looking into it, but since I’m not experiencing the problem it’s tough to diagnose. All I can advise right now is to just keep trying periodically, and if you are receiving any error message that might be useful email it to admin@fanedit.org or post it here, assuming that’s okay. I’ll keep an eye on this thread. Thank you.

(And if there is any goofy spellings here you can blame autocorrect on my phone.)

Does “thunderclap” count as a goofy spelling of “Q2”? 😉

If you like.

And if you are having trouble and don’t mind providing some details, please include who your ISP is, if you use a DNS service such as OpenDNS or Google, etc. Not sure it will help but maybe there’s a pattern.

Thanks for the replies everyone and thanks to Q2 for looking into this (Hope you’ve got a cream for the thunderclap).

Some info…

Desktop-PC+Firefox = white screen of nothing.

Desktop-PC+Opera (with or without VPN enabled) = “This page isn’t working / forums.fanedit.org is currently unable to handle this request.”

iPhone+Safari (wifi and 4G) = white screen of nothing.

Desktop-PC+Chrome = Forum seems to look fine, until I try to login to my forum account. It says logging in is successful and then a white screen pops up “This page isn’t working / forums.fanedit.org is currently unable to handle this request. / HTTP ERROR 500”. After that the forum is broken because I can’t logout again (or login).

Desktop-PC+IE = Same deal as Chrome. Same error “HTTP 500”. Again, I can’t logout now, so the forum isn’t accessible for me on any browser of device.

P.S. I was already logged into Firefox, Safari and Opera prior to the error starting to happen. So this looks like some kind of login thing? Account stuck in login-limbo?)

P.P.S I can access the ifdb admin panel as normal (so far).

I can%2527t get in to fanedit.org forum%2525 myself. I%2527m on Windows 7%25252C and neither chrome nor firefox are cooperating. Last night%25252C I was able to post a reply to a thread - and since then%25252C I get a blank screen of nothing on FF. I can force a logout by using the %252522forget about this page%252522 history option%25252C but logging back in gets me the white page. On chrome%25252C logging in gave me an error HTTP 500 message%25252C and I have been unable to force a logout.

I think the problem has been corrected. I updated the Alerts plugin and it seems to have caused a minor problem. My bet is that those who couldn’t log in have an alert (a waiting PM, a response to a thread, etc.) and because of that it was crashing you out. Those of us who didn’t have any alerts weren’t affected.

If I copy/paste my original post, it looks like this:

I’m going to start listening to the Discworld series on audiobook, but I encountered a problem: Terry Pratchett didn’t use chapters in most of his books. I’ve been chapter-splitting all of my audiobooks and importing them into my Plex Media Server, but I feel awkward making entirely arbitrary breaks in a book. I don’t even know what I would name each section, and I almost feel like not having any breaks at all because the books don’t. However, The Light Fantastic is 6+ hours long.

I haven’t decided what I’m going to do.

Leave it as one file, you can always resume where you left off in plex… not sure i see the point?
