I tend to watch the SE sometimes — Page 5

I sometimes watch the changes on youtube to reignite the fire of my hatred of the SEs.

It seems like people are really embracing the new characters. In fact, the big question people ask me now about Star Wars is, “Are Finn and Poe gay lovers?” And really how the f*ck would I know? My second husband left me for a man, so my gaydar isn’t exactly what you’d call Death Star level quality. ----Carrie Fisher

Funny, I don’t recall ever defending the '97 SE.
It’s no less worthy of being preserved than anything else with the Star Wars brand on it though.

If someone likes the '97 SE, then I would defend their right to preserve it just as I do the originals. And George absolutely had a right to make a Director’s Cut and release his “true version”, whatever that was.

But he had no right to try and quash the OOT because of his own insecurities as a man and as a filmmaker.

I don’t think a single person on this entire site disagrees with that.

It’s refreshing to watch them every once in a while.

Why?

It’s different. Different stuff is refreshing. Not necessarily good, but different and interesting to look at once in a while. I would never show it to a newcomer to Star Wars, and I probably wouldn’t ever watch it in a marathon with friends, but I might look at a scene or two every once in a while.

I think that if we still got to have official high quality theatrical releases, I would think that the special editions are pretty cool.

I mean think about it. Even though they aren’t good per-say, they’re pretty interesting ‘what if’ experiments. Adding new scenes and new effects to a classic movie is an interesting idea in and of itself.

I mean, to be fair, the last version of the Adywan revisited I saw still used a lot of SE footage.

The SE is too distracting for me to enjoy as a movie, since I grew up with the 1995 VHS tapes. I feel like I’m playing iSpy the whole time, looking for changes.

I’ve never seen anything other than the 1977 version. I last time I watched it was eleven years ago.
