Info Wanted: Star Wars 77 six track mix with mono changes?

Is this something that exists? I know purists will declare it heresy. I love hairy_hen’s recreation of the six track mix, but I just miss some of the mono changes like the tractor beam line and “open the blast doors”. It wouldn’t be faithful to the original theatrical experience, true, but It’s something I’d like to see nonetheless.

I have a draft version. Actually, starting with the 1993 mix is a better because many of the mono mix edits were applied to that. Others were applied in the SE, 2004, and 2011 audio mixes, so a lot of the work has been done already. After finding out that all the of the stereo tracks are really matrixed surround sound, I decided to put off making a final version until I can extract the surround and center channels. Most of the edits would be to just the center channel (while making sure there isn’t any conflicting bleed through to the other channels).

The closest thing I would think would be if you ripped the audio from adywans purist version of revisited which would kinda be like the 2004 mix with mono mix changes. Unfortunately the 2004 mix was used as a base and it sounds like garbage. (Nothing can save that abomination of a mix the 97 is much better imo. Vaders voice is the only thing good about the 04 mix.)

This post doesn’t really answer your question but I had fun making it.

True, but even the Purist version has plenty of editing changes that would effect the sound, like the battle of Yavin being mostly re-edited. I think that would be very hard to GOUT sync.

I’ve occasionally thought of making such a thing. A combination of the 1993 and 1997 mixes would probably be the best way to do it, but in some places that wouldn’t work and more creative editing would be necessary.

Any such thing could only ever be a rough approximation of the mono mix in stereo form, of course: the mono version has so many changes to the balance of the mix that for many of them it is probably not possible to get any results that truly resemble it. The 1997 version did add many mono mix effects, but they are often quite loud compared to the rest of the track, much louder than they were in the real mono mix. To actually blend them relatively seamlessly would take a lot of effort… if I cared more about the mono version I’d probably have already tried to do this, but since I quite prefer the mix balance of the stereo and 70mm versions I could never really be bothered. Still, one day I may end up trying it.

Thanks for the response hairy_hen. I found a 97 mix synced to the GOUT that has the 70mm spliced in a few places to cover up SE changes. It’s not perfect but it does include most of the changes I’m looking for so I might just use that for now.
