Not “because of”, “in spite of”. I was suggesting some people can tolerate Jar-Jar but cannot tolerate creepy serial-killer Anakin (Personally, I do think Jar-Jar is so bad that he makes TPM irredeemable).
Point being, if you replaced PT Anakin with endearing/heroic/charming OT Luke in AOTC, it’d probably become a moderately enjoyable (if flawed) movie. If you replaced Jar-Jar in TPM, with OT Chewie, that movie would still be horrible.

Phasma doesn’t make sense towards the end of TFA. Why would she give up just because she has a blaster pointed at her head? If she’s some sort of hard core Stormtrooper she would have shown a little more resiliency. It doesn’t make sense for her character. Phasma doesn’t make sense towards the end of TFA. Why would she give up just because she has a blaster pointed at her head? If she’s some sort of hard core Stormtrooper she would have shown a little more resiliency. It doesn’t make sense for her character. She should have said screw you guys, shoot me, I’m not helping you.
Sometimes someone’s resolve crumbles when a blaster is pointed at them? And it would look nasty for our heroes to shoot her once she’s a prisoner in that situation anyway.

I liked TFA… but man they f-ed up Phasma. I agree that was stupid as hell. Not much of a fanatical solder after all apparently.
Maybe they’ll reveal that Snoke wanted SKB destroyed for some reason 😕

Admittedly that would have been surprising and would have shown how devoted the people who serve the First Order are. Showing that she would needlessly die so that the Resistance had no chance would be a nice way of showing that these guys are of a more serious mindset than the beings who made up The Empire. As is I don’t have a problem with it because she hasn’t shown the same type of fanaticism that Hux has showed but I would have preferred some type of struggle.

That’s a tough call. I’m tempted to say TPM Anakin but then I think about how Christensen is an older actor and should have done a better job. I mean, whose fault is it that Little Annie was such a lame character? Certainly not the kid, he was like nine years old or something …then again, can Christensen even be blamed? He’s not an inherently bad actor (I don’t think, I’m not sure) so blame would fall on the writers, directors and whoever cast him for that particular role.
We’d have to have a solid definition of “worst Star Wars character.” If it means the one who most thoroughly failed to be even remotely interesting, believable, or consistent with himself in the OT, I’d have to go with AotC and RotS Anakin. I’m sure others can express it more eloquently than I can, but I just can’t imagine any of the PT Anakins turning into Darth Vader.

Agreed on both your points; people definitely cave when threatened with a blaster/gun to their head, and it would absolutely look bad for the heroes to go around shooting people in cold blood. I guess that highlights a huge philosophical difference between TFA and R1 (see: Andor shooting that dude in the back).
I just found it hard to believe that Phasma would be one of those people who cave. I kept thinking “maybe she has some ulterior motive and wants to escape SKB” and “an Imperial officer may have caved like that but her?!”

I agree… honestly no one outside of Ewan and Ian Mcdiarmid managed to consistently do a good job delivering their lines.
In particular Natalie Portman was terrible, she wasn’t even trying anymore by ROTS

^Yeah, McD is pretty good throughout much of ROTS but when he dials it up to eleven (and with George’s words in his mouth) it’s unwatchable.

AotC Anakin is the worst for numerous reasons that don’t need to be repeated.
TPM Anakin was annoying and a colossal waste of time but because the character slate was effectively wiped clean for the next movie, a brilliant AotC Anakin could have pulled that character round.
RotS Anakin is clearly the “least worst” of the three. Because Lucas did an “Oh f**k I’m on the last movie and I haven’t even got round to establishing Anakin as being likeable and being friends with Ben!” the opening act tries really hard to do both, while not quite succeeding. After that point, Anakin being creepy and evil works in that movies favour given the Vader descent.

The character was written and directed to be a whiny unlikeable jerk. If actor delivers such character, that means he did a good job.
