I have it.  If one does a search at a site that it's url is like a cat but spelled different it is available under surround test disk.

Here's one I've not seen before. A test disc to calibrate a theater for The Phantom Menace.

http://www.ebay.com/itm/DTS-THX-TEST-DISC-FOR-STAR-WARS-EPISODE-1-PHANTOM-MENACE-35mm-FILM-MEMORABILIA-/141681749984

As far as I know, I do have a copy of this, from a theater guy I know.

If Threepio says more than "left channel, right channel" etc., it could be of use in fan edits.

...or just a wonderful audio track, to build upon it a fan video! (^^,)

I have the actual Cinema DTS ISO for this.  I'm snaging the other one now.  Might be interesting to have.

Thanks for the heads up suntech.

Alright, Phantom Menace Cinema DTS synced and upped.

I'm happy to extract, sync, and encode these one at a time, if you'll provide me with either the isos, or pull the aud files from both discs and zip them all up together (my preferred approach). Maybe toss them on Mega and send me the links? I'll do them in whatever priority order you prefer :)

Put them out as NSFo Releases?

Preferred Saga:
1/2: Hal9000
3: L8wrtr
4/5: Adywan
6-9: Hal9000

I’ve now had the chance to sample the Matrix theatrical DTS and compare it to the BR audio. To me the two sound very similar with any perceived difference possibly being due to levels as hairy_hen mentioned.

That being said, there’s something about knowing I’m listening to the original theatrical audio that gives me a warm fuzzy feeling and an outstanding job has been done syncing it to the BR so this will remain my preferred track for watching the movie. Many thanks Jetrell Fo for making this available. 😃

Seeing how the BD & CINEMA tracks are ± identical, and keeping in mind cinema DTS is presumably worse than consumer DTS, which is about half the quality as AC3 at the same bitrate, it is incredibly daft to listen to the cinema track when BD AC3 is available because you’re listening to much reduced quality for no benefit.

Oh, and thanks hairy_hen for explanation/comparison.

^You’re responding to a post from 2013 in a thread that hasn’t been used since 2015. Why?

Maybe if you had given the thread title any thought, “DTS audio preservation”, you would not have been so dismissive. Now, if some older movies had changes and/or extended versions, the audio would not be identical would it. Anyways, this is a project I started and others were interested in seeing happen. I have taken this thread and project elsewhere anyways so I don’t update it.

If you have no interest in it, that’s cool, no need to come in here and pooh pooh it is there?

Thanks

this is not always true, in particular referred to older movies

and keeping in mind cinema DTS is presumably worse than consumer DTS

they are different codecs, but it’s not necessarily true

which is about half the quality as AC3 at the same bitrate

DTS Cinema quality is really good; yep, I could also agree that it could have half the quality of AC-3 at the same bitrate, but I’m not aware of any 1mbps+ AC-3 track…

it is incredibly daft to listen to the cinema track when BD AC3 is available because you’re listening to much reduced quality for no benefit.

This is not true, unless the AC-3 track is 640kbps AND it uses the same mix; in that case, quality could be comparable; if AC-3 is 448kbps, Cinema DTS is better.

Thanks Jetrell for this DTS thread - and all the others here, and there, you know… 😉

Actually it’s true that DTS is a pretty poor compression format for audio. But what do you expect - it was introduced in 1993. Cinema DTS is 882 kbps. Will AC-3 640 kbps sound better? Probably, but it’s a pretty old compression format too.

I still think Mortal Kombat on DTS Laserdisc blows the Blu Ray audio out of the water. 😉

Hey guys!

I have a technical audio backround and I can try to help you with the extraction of the LFE channel from the surrounds.

Can somebody please sent me the dts papers on this topic?

Did you use linear or minimum phase filters for the crossover? Did you correct the X Curve or not?

And most important: Is this project still active?

Home mixes are normally nearfield and remixed.
These are the original mixes and therefore better and not watered down.

I wouldn’t say ‘normally’, it’s highly dependant on publisher, etc. I’d think with a lot of films they wouldn’t bother remixing it for home.

But I do dread Disney’s DEHT things.

Can someone please sync the English Cinema DTS dub of Howl’s Moving Castle properly to the Blu-ray?

I think it would be really great.

Also, please encode it in DTS-HD Master Audio 6.1 Matrix, since it was originally in DTS-ES in theaters.
And I know that there was a mistake in the Star Wars Cinema DTS tracks with them being only in 5.1 instead of 6.1 Matrix.

Please, I was really excited when I saw Howl’s Moving Castle was one of the movies you preserved in cinema DTS.

And I’ve loved every pixel of it.

Has anyone sync’ed the DTS Cinema audio for “Speed Racer” to that Blu-ray, yet?

What about the DTS track for Lion King? It never saw a video release, and the LD only contains AC3.
