Kennedy’s comments make it sound 100% certain that the OUT is never coming.
I can’t really understand how people can come to this conclusion.

I just can’t wrap mt head around this translation of what was said. All she said was that she wouldn’t make further changes to the SE. It’s a totally different subject. What am I missing?
We had a fool ask a convoluted question. It cleared nothing up. “Will Disney release the original versions of the Star Wars Trilogy?” That’s the question you ask.
It seems like people are really embracing the new characters. In fact, the big question people ask me now about Star Wars is, “Are Finn and Poe gay lovers?” And really how the f*ck would I know? My second husband left me for a man, so my gaydar isn’t exactly what you’d call Death Star level quality. ----Carrie Fisher

That’s what Snoke wants you to believe, but it’s not true.

People keep saying this but I think “Will there be any more changes to the Special edition versions?” is the question that he was trying to ask. And he got the answer he was looking for. Not every inquiry people make about changes to the films revolves around the unaltered versions.

I don’t think anyone at Lucasfilm wants more changes to the films. Anyone who would champion that was probably forced out years ago- like McCallum.
The good thing is I don’t see JJ or Gareth Edwards coming along in 20 years and changing TFA or R1.

That seems very illogical to me. Practically nobody is interested in a special special edition. So the idea that he was specifically asking, if Lucasfilm is going to alter the SE further without Lucas, who was the only person really pushing for the alterations in the first place, and in the face of much criticism, seems way more far fetched to me, than the suggestion that he was asking about the OOT in veiled terms.
Either way, Kennedy stated that the final cut will always remain Lucas’ decision. It is therefore logical to conclude, that they will consult Lucas before releasing, what Lucas would consider a rough cut of his films. This may or may not happen. Thusfar the evidence is pointing towards a lack of interest of all parties involved.
It’s one thing to distribute a film in its original version, it’s another to release an altered version made by someone that’s not the original creator.Atleast that’s what I think.
Also, like I’ve stated, does it matter what Kennedy thinks whilst under the rule of Disney?
George tried to give ideas for Episode 7 and I’m sure if Kathleen could she would have let him chime in but Disney told him to buzz off
…what Lucas would consider a rough cut of his films.
That’s funny. What he considers as rough cuts, I call finished movies. What he calls finished movies (the Prequels), I consider as rough cuts.
That seems very illogical to me. Practically nobody is interested in a special special edition.
Is that true? At least my impressions from general movie boards were that casual people just hated some of the changes and would prefer a special edition without those. A removal of just some special edition changes would create said special special edition.
Even here on our board there are threads focusing on which was your favorite change to be undone.
They will just release Lucas’ babies. The 77 cut, the 81 cut, the 97 cuts, the '04 cut and the '11 cut were all his. Now we know that nobody will tinker with those.
“People who alter or destroy works of art and our cultural heritage for profit or as an exercise of power are barbarians”
“In the future it will become even easier for old negatives to become lost and be “replaced” by new altered negatives. This would be a great loss to our society. Our cultural history must not be allowed to be rewritten.” --George Lucas on March 3, 1988

Disney is hands off on companies like Marvel, Lucasfilm and Pixar as long as they make money.

Someone brought up the question of just how much of a percentage Fox gets on ESB, RotJ and the PT.
Maybe it’s not worth it for Disney to wait three years if they only have to share a small percentage of the profits from those movies.
Also, if they can’t keep selling the same SKU’s after May of 2020, an OOT restoration released within the next couple years practically screams to have the words “limited edition” emblazoned across its cover.

Based on Reddit, more people are interested in this than the OUT. Every time I see the subject of the different cuts come up anywhere other than here, someone inevitably says some variation of “the unaltered versions would be nice, but I’d rather they just get rid of the bad changes and update the CGI for the rest so that it will match the new movies”, and then everyone else upvotes it.

Up is down, black is white, and short is long. Everything Lucas knows is wrong.

Reddit sucks
Yes it does.
Most of the Internet sucks.
Yes but Reddit in particular is quite the hell hole

Reddit sucks
Don’t worry if it doesn’t match the new movie… Unaltered versions should stay the real original trilogy…
Most of the Internet sucks.
More generally humans suck

This is why I can’t stand the Star Wars reddit. It’s full of PT and SE worshippers who won’t stop posting about their tattoos and stick figure families. I see tons of people on there saying “most of the changes were great, just get rid of Greedo shooting and it will be perfect.”
