Celebration 2017 Speculation — Page 31

Well, no OUT but at least something worthy of the 40th anniversary came about - the unveiling of previously unseen STAR WARS outtakes.

Just viewed the celebration Lucas panel and came away with the disturbing realisation that Lucas has no need for underwear - he has the cleanest a-hole in the galaxy.

You’re right actually. If you dislike TFA and Rogue One because of reasons XYZ that’s fine but there are people who hate those films because because of reasons that have nothing to do with the quality of the films themselves. It stands the reason that someone who is grown should be able to not let outside shit influence their opinions but I just don’t know anymore.

The problem is Disney bought Star Wars, and is turning it into the dancing Vader disco nonsense, giving us the finger when we ask for the OOT, and instead pulling these bait and switches.

You want the OOT? What’s that? Don’t you mean you really want to watch a trailer for our new movie? Yeah! Ok 😃

First of all, dancing Vader has been at Disney since before the acquisition.

And I wouldn’t say they’re giving us the finger so much as ignoring us (there is a difference).

I don’t know what you mean by bait and switches. I thought you were certain they weren’t going to say anything about an OOT release at Celebration. Anyway, it’s not like they said they’d announce something big at the 40th Anniversary panel and then showed the TLJ trailer instead. They’re two completely separate things with completely separate people behind them. I don’t know why I always have to explain this but the omnipotent ~Disney~ is not making every single Star Wars decision. There are people in charge of home video distribution and there are people in charge of making films and they are not the same people.

Was that really necessary?

In Rogue One we see Red and Gold Leader, Garett Edwards said that this was unused footage from Episode IV. So if they can make old, grainy, film from 1977 seamlessly blend into a major 2016 blockbuster with no one noticing

To be clear: the ANH footage in Rogue One is very noticeable. Overuse of DNR, not the same print quality. It took me out of the movie each time. It was a cool idea (and it somehow makes Lucas an additional director of R1 by the way 😃) but it was not seamless at all.

Really? Looked damn good in 70mm IMAX to me. 😉

They digitally cut the original actors out of the 1976 footage, and comped them into new cockpit sets to begin with.

35mm 3D 😦 (this is a running gag 😃)

I’ve watched the movie only once, so I didn’t watch the cockpit, just the actors, who were “waxy”.

But the point it “noboby noticing the use of 1976 footage in a 2016 blockbuster”, I just say that I noticed it and it felt wrong to my eyes.

Well the latter is much worse. I would prefer they stated their intentions, whatever they may be.

I’d rather be perpetually blue balled than potentially have my balls cut off outright.

What, a man builds a giant mound of dirt in his house and you aren’t entertained?

You know, I just realized something. If we ever get another official release of the OOT, it’ll be restored by DISNEY. The same Disney that has run roughshod over all of their classic animated features by degraining and enhancing the colours. Their classic live action has fared better, but many of them aren’t even fully cleaned up, just scanned and released with zero bonus features.

I suspect that anybody expecting a Criterion Collection-style treatment has a BIG wake-up call coming…

If any further original trilogy outtakes are released they could have time codes all over them. No more deleted scenes presented clean.

No what I am saying is that who has heard of Smuggler’s Revenge, and who even buys books? It’s a niche inside a nerd fanbase. People that buy movie tickets to everything in the latest ‘Cinematic Universe’ are not going to care because they buy what they are told to. A few hundred people looking on Google or a dozen phoney eBay sales don’t amount to the kind of numbers needed to sell a real product on the global scale Disney wants.

“I shot first” was said during the Smuggler’s Revenge audio story and the entire audience clapped and cheered. You don’t think people get that the films were changed?

Well, some suggest that the reason we don’t have the OOT on Blu Ray is because not enough people know or care about the theatrical cuts but we beg to differ

The real question is what is Smuggler’s Revenge to a mainstream audience?

Like I said, go to Google and type unaltered and you tell me what the first or second search suggestion is

I typed ‘unaltered’ on Google.ca, and got lots of definition sites on the first page. However, when I typed ‘unaltered s’, I did indeed get info about the OT.

I don’t think that comparison really works…
I’d much rather they just say “We have no plans or interest in an OOT restoration.” so that we can move on to other options.
I just want to hear a straight, honest answer from LFL/Disney. Are they interested? Got something in the works? No interest? No plans? I just want to know where this issue currently sits.

I noticed stock shots from Star Wars in ROTJ on opening day. The colors gave it away.

Is it possible anything more will be said on this at celebration? Maybe as a parting thing?

Their continued silence is infuriating. How can you celebrate the release of a movie that isn’t available to watch anymore?

The only way the mouse will do any work on the OT is when they finally adopt 4kUHD. Otherwise they will continue to flog the bds endlessly.

Well, it’s FOX that has been flogging the discs

The last reissue of the discs (the individual steelbooks and the repackaging of “the complete saga”) was only a few months before the debut of the 4k UHD format, and there’s been a reissue every two years, which means we’d been due for another one later this year.

Just because it didn’t come up at Celebration doesn’t mean we’re out of the woods just yet. They could be saving a surprise announcement for May.

Have they ever actually announced a home video release at a Celebration? I know the streaming versions of the OT and PT weren’t, and neither were the initial TFA and R1 blu-rays. Was the 3D TFA with the commentary track and the extra features a Celebration reveal last year? I’m beginning to realize that this event has never really been the place for that.

Lucas himself announced the Blu ray release of I-VI at Celebration V in 2010.
