Ah. I’m planning to purchase the Blu, so I didn’t take a mental note of the digital download release date.

I was too but I can wait no longer. Also in the next two weeks I’m going to stop smoking so going out with Rogue One onward is the best way one can go out.

I watched TFA for the first time in a while this afternoon, and I think I may have come around on the whole Starkiller thing. It occurred to me that what sets it apart from the other two Death Stars is the fact that the First Order isn’t the dominant power in the galaxy, but rather a lunatic fringe group. It’s like if Bin Laden had a nuke, which is something very different from what we saw with the Empire’s superweapons. I think they certainly could have explored that angle a lot more than they did, and I hope they will in subsequent stories, but for now I’ve decided that that’s enough of a twist for me to get past any lingering misgivings about Starkiller Base.

The New Republic probably misjudged the threat the New Order posed. Starkiller being built into a planet was an effective disguise. The fleet around the core worlds gave a false sense of security, as it probably had not been directly challenged since the end of the Empire. So long as the N.O. doesn’t seem to be building another battle station, why worry?

I would think there’s a massive power vacuum to be dealt with in TLJ.

I don’t want to dislike this movie, but I just can’t get past its complete lack of originality and boring main characters - not in the way that I don’t like them as people, they’re just not very engaging.

I’ve seen TFA four times now, and it bores me more and more from the middle act and out every time I watch it.

I do hope that THE LAST JEDI tries something new - like, uhm, NEW FUCKING IDEAS, and some new technology and unfamiliar planet designs, and I might actually feel good about the future of this franchise.

I do hate to be one of those unsatisfied Star Wars fans, but when I get a film that gives me nothing new, retreads the same plot as the OT, and I don’t even wheep at Han Solo’s climatic death, the movie did something terribly wrong. And for that, it’s an unforgiven installment, and a rip-off.

boring main characters

¯\ _(ツ)_/¯

I just didn’t find Finn FindMyIphone, Rey the Grey and Pope Damyian to be interesting new additions.

Rey is Luke V2; from a desert planet with unclear family relations, Finn is boring and used for comic, and Poe is not in it much and frankly could be dead.

SNOKE is imposing, but we’ve already seen the Mastermind in a hologram thing before in EP 5.

HAN SOLO is cool because of the OT, and have some funny lines.

MAZ KANATA is orange “dont-underestimate-my-size” Yoda.

KYLO REY is new and cool.

Wait, Poe is a zombie? Thanks for spoiling TLJ! 😉

So glad they killed Han. Han had to go. He was a pirate not a hero.

I don’t get where Kylo Ren is going, but when he wears the mask I love him.

Poe and Finn seem useless for the future.

Why does Chewbacca look younger?? When’s he gonna go gray?

I really did not like how the film copied beats from a new hope, but it showed me how you create “poetry” and make it rhyme properly.

To be honest, it really really doesn’t make sense that there’s still a “resistance” after the Republic got control back.

I guess you could call me a hipster; I think the prequels are better than the originals, and I think the Beach Boys are better than the Beatles.

What, what? The Rebellion gave him a medal. (And a rank.) He’s a hero.

Chewie’s only 234 years old in TFA. Wookiee lifespans being a couple centuries or more, thirty years isn’t much time since the OT. He’s barely hit middle age.
He also started using a new shampoo and conditioner. 😉

I am rewatching TFA right now.

SNOKE: “The Droid will soon be delivered to the Resistance, leading them to the last Jedi.”

Has anyone pointed this out before? Perhaps it clears up the stupid “singular or plural” argument once and for all.

I don’t see why.

They’re just guys. And Finn’s just an ordinary person mixed up in this. I could care less what happens to both of them. That sounds harsh, but to me… they’re just there and they don’t really affect the outcome that much.

Well yeah but you think the prequels are better than the originals.

Yes, it’s used in the crawl too. It’s definitely singular in TFA but that doesn’t mean it will be in TLJ.

So after watching this again, I’m wondering if the ending would have been better had Fin died. Probably not a popular opinion, but it would have been a powerful event for his character, and I’m struggling to think of what kind of unique role he could play in the rest of the trilogy. His arc seems kind of complete already.

Good thing you weren’t hired to write Eps VIII and IX then.

Not a crazy proposition. This thought has crossed my mind many times since I first saw it.

It really depends on Rey’s arc. He could be used by Kylo just as Luke was lured by his friends in Empire, or the opposite could happen, though that has already been done.

Or rather, since Finn began the humanization of the Stormtrooper, he could attempt to rescue others from the First Order en masse through the use of Resistance propaganda. That would be my vote.

You probably don’t recognize me because of the red arm.
