Whatever this GMA announcement ends up being, I sincerely doubt it’s a theatrical re-release.

What else could it be? I’m betting a re-release of the original, if not all of them, like I said

Now that I think about it, another omaze thing is probably exactly what this is.

I let the “40 years in the making” part distract me. They’re probably only saying that because they thought it would sound cool.

Re: celebration, worth noting the BD sagas are still deeply discounted everywhere this week.

I was saying the same thing the other week, for the same reason.

Then someone pointed out to me that they were probably just trying to take advantage of Rogue One’s blu-ray release. “Hey, we could also pre-order I-VI. We don’t have those on blu. Oh and hey, look at that, they just slashed the price!”

But yeah, my first thoughts upon noticing the discount was “because they know they won’t even be able to give those saga sets away for free after they make the OOT announcement at celebration??? That’s got to be the reason, right???”

Rogue One is redundant. Just play the first mission of DARK FORCES.

Doesn’t sound like an Omaze thing to me at all.

It’s super vague. “40 years in the making” could literally mean anything.

It doesn’t sound to me like it’s an OOT announcement at this point, but it also doesn’t seem like Force For Change would be a huge 40th anniversary announcement either. If memory serves, all the fanfare it got for TFA consisted of a few youtube videos of JJ standing in front of sets and props.

They probably just want people to tune in so they get good ratings.

Ultimately this it’s just a bunch of corporate bs. Disney is going to cross promote something they own (Star Wars) on their very own network (ABC).

If the announcement tomorrow and the “surprises” later this week at celebration turn out to be nothing, can we all agree it was rather dickish of them to lead us on like this? They know damn well what we want and it’s the 40th Anniversary. This isn’t some trivial issue. The fans have been yelling about it rather loudly for well over a decade now.

They should at the very least address the issue. Is that so much to ask?

Haven’t had a cable box since 2014 so it’s not like I’ll be able to catch this. I don’t think it’s OOT related news. Disney would wanna announce something big like that at Celebration

Hell, I’m 43 years in the making.

Strike my last comment, I misunderstood the GMA announcement and thought they were promoting whatever was going to happen during Celebration. While I’m still not fully convinced that we’re getting an OOT, my hopes have not been completely dashed.

I could see it potentially happening at celebration. The SE vs OOT debate can be a sensitive subject amongst fans, but if you look at how many times people like Hamill and others indirectly threw the prequels under the bus with their comments at Celebration 2015 (“we used REAL SETS this time”), the simple act of including the OOT alongside the SE doesn’t seem anywhere near as divisive.

I don’t think they’ve been leading us on at all. They’ve barely said anything beyond the typical hyping, it’s just people here are looking for whatever evidence they can.

Now, obviously it’s well known that people want the original versions, but it’s not like the publicity people are in charge of home video releases (and it’s not like they’re not going to hype their event just because it might rattle some feathers from fans who are expecting something they never said was coming).

I hope there’s an OOT announcement just like everyone. But let’s be realistic. We still hardly know what the situation regarding that is like.

From Force for Change’s website:

"Following the release of Star Wars: A New Hope in the late 1970’s, fans began to embrace Star Wars stories of struggle, hope and inspiration on a more personal level. Philanthropy was very important to George Lucas — he used early screenings to raise money for charities around the world with a particular emphasis on children’s healthcare and education. Over the course of the last three decades, Star Wars fans have kept this philanthropic spirit alive by volunteering their time to countless charities across the world and raising millions of dollars in donations.

With new Star Wars stories on the horizon, Star Wars: Force for Change aims to support the immense passion and goodwill of our fans and promote change through inspiration, stories and meaningful partnerships."

1: "You’ll want to be a part of this Force"
2: "40 years in the making"
3: Daisy Ridley and Mark Hamill (Star Wars Sequel tie-in)

My prediction is that it will be something like this:

It will probably just be VIII related. I feel like there was a longer wait for TFA when they started showing off the new cast, wasn’t the first trailer at least a year before? Maybe that’s what I’m thinking of. With the home release of Rogue One done, this is probably their big announcement.

The GMA thing could easily be something as pedestrian as announcing the trailer for TLJ will premiere at Celebration and showing a brief segment of that.

It seems like people are really embracing the new characters. In fact, the big question people ask me now about Star Wars is, “Are Finn and Poe gay lovers?” And really how the f*ck would I know? My second husband left me for a man, so my gaydar isn’t exactly what you’d call Death Star level quality. ----Carrie Fisher

That’d hardly be a “big announcement”.
Plus, the movie is already in post production.

Just because they can’t do walk-on contests doesn’t mean they can’t do some other sort of charity contest.

As I recall, that’s what they did after Episode VII finished principal photography.
