Maybe the effect simply didn’t work? Or they didn’t use any takes where you could see the smoke in the final cut.

He definitely smoked in the movie.

I’ve long thought of it as the frog bong. 😉
Amazing there was never any controversy about the Kenner version having the hookah. We couldn’t get a metal bikini Leia, but drug smoking slugs, that’s okay!

JEDIT:Ray beat me to it.

The mid 90’s saw some strange ideas come out of Kenner.

At least the old Mini Rigs back in the 80’s looked like something that was just “off camera” in the OT. In Kenner’s defense, they did follow up with more sensible things like a Hoth Rebel soldier with a laser cannon, and the Probe Droid.

Haha so goofy. There was a Boba Fett Deluxe too I remember. At one point I’m sure there was a Han Solo that came with the Falcon turret, but they decided that it needed an action feature so the barrels of the gun itself fired out for some reason.

Are you talking about this one? I still have mine!

I have a question that I’ve been chewing on since 1983. Nobody has ever answered it and I can’t get any major content creators to answer me. Anyone up for a head-scratcher?

Sorry, I’m unable to answer that question as well.
Better luck on another chat bored.

You couldn’t answer if you were up for a head-scratcher?

No cuz I gotta see pic before deciding who I’m gonna be gettin’ the old “head” “scratched” by, and Slobulus’s avatar is blank.

Yeah that kind of thing, most of it is long gone here.

You can always try and find it on Ebay, for hundreds of dollars…probably.

Ah there are plenty for sale for less than 20 bucks, if was I so inclined. Just don’t have the space for all the old merch any more.

A website with smaller images of the posters for informational purposes would probably fall under the umbrella of fair use. TFN has had a site with all the major posters, but not the more obscure stuff like posters sold in stores, and stuff only available through the original fan club.

I had the posters in the bottom right corner when I was a kid. My color choices with the magic markers might have been a tad off though. 😉

Yeah, TFN has an alright selection but it’s certainly not comprehensive and the quality is awful. A site with better information is https://www.cinemasterpieces.com/cinestarwars.htm but their photos are just that, photos. Most posters I have look ‘scanned’ rather than ‘photographed’.

So did Vader in STAR WARS…

No. Vader’s plan to find the hidden Rebel base worked.

Vader ‘killed’ Ben after a fair duel between the two. Ren murdered his unarmed father after tricking him into standing really close to him and stabbing him in the heart.

Ben…let himself be killed though…Why exactly are you using this in an argument?

Also Kylo killing his father in that manner is beyond sadistic. We never seen Vader do anything that cruel and he’s a fully formed villain.

So how does that make you want to root for Kylo Ren? Two old warriors, an apprentice and a master battled and one in the end ‘died’. Vader being on the opposite side of the coin as Obi-Wan makes him evil but cool. Do a lot of people find unarmed patricide in cold blood ‘cool’?

I don’t think he is a poorly written character, I’m just confused about what appeal he has to anyone other than his helmet.

Potential

Potential for what, though? Redemption? No thanks. To become even more evil so that he can one day be destroyed by a set of heroes? Ok. But it doesn’t seem like something to ‘root’ for, which is how this whole line of conversation started.

There’s a difference between thinking a character is “cool” as a person, and thinking a character is interesting because of a characterization.

I think Ren has the potential to become a schizophrenic mad dog who is as much a danger to friend as he is to foe. That would make the next two episodes rather interesting IMO.

Actually you’re right but he failed in his interrogation of Leia and failed to stop the Death Star from being blown up. Also you’re wrong about Kylo failing all of his tasks as he killed his father which is a test that I do not think Vader would pass had he been ordered to kill Luke.

It’s not really about him as there are tons of people who want to see Rey struggle more in TLJ.

Also I think someone doing anything in his power to achieve his aspirations is ‘cool’. I’m interested in seeing just how far this young man will go.

Well, as you will later see in his abysmal dealings with Jabba the Hutt, Luke has some kind of inferiority complex that forces him to kill as many people as humanly possible.  I mean, sure, some Imperial forces might die if the AT-AT tips over due to a damaged leg, but if you really want to rack up a good kill count, blowing up the cockpit with an explosive is the safer way to go!

Speaking of which, what the hell was Luke’s plan for rescuing Han? As much as I love ROTJ, I’ve never been able to make any sense of the plan.

Good question. I don’t think there ever was much of a plan - just all about getting inside the fort, and take it from there. Worked out well, tho’. One would almost think it was in the script for them to succeed.

I find it funny, that out of all the OT practical effects in Jabba’s palace, I find Jabba the most convincing and every single other Rubber-mask alien completely unbelievable, whilst in A New Hope I don’t.

I’ve come to the conclusion that this might be due to a bigger focus on “bigger, better, more” in RotJ, whilst in ANH it was the little things that mattered.

Any thoughts on this? Is it just me? Am I alone?

In understanding your question? Yes

Edit : and I don’t mean to be mean. I honestly am unsure what you are actuality asking.

I agree with you. With ANH, Lucas had to manage everything with a very tight budget, so they had to focus on what little they could do. They felt forced to hide in the background or rethink what they knew wouldn’t work.
For ROTJ, instead, they were working with a very high budget and could even use assets from TESB. You can see their special effects, both optical and practical, had improved a lot, but they probably overdid in some cases, like you said, and this could’ve led them to rush some of effects to make it on schedule.

Hayden won’t be at the Last Jedi panel at Celebration! The chances of him in the movie went down!

It seems like people are really embracing the new characters. In fact, the big question people ask me now about Star Wars is, “Are Finn and Poe gay lovers?” And really how the f*ck would I know? My second husband left me for a man, so my gaydar isn’t exactly what you’d call Death Star level quality. ----Carrie Fisher
