The ANH:SE Redux Ideas thread (Radical Ideas Welcome). — Page 63

All I've got so far is to lift the Throne Room music up a semitone or so, to make the lead into the end credits maintain continuity with the other five films.

Ol’ George has the GOUT, I see.

wow, after reading all the interesting stuff here, I got some ideas and suggesstions:

Bingo, your idea to either put the Executor or another SSD in ANH - if it didn't take away the reveal shot in ESB, it would be a nice addition, so maybe - should it show up several times during ANH or just at the beginning (aka as Vaders ship) ?

I like the notion to replace "windows" which seem to be placed at odd spots with monitor screens or to change the setting to match the scene (escape pod)

the whole Deathstar update left a few questions:

- should it be over Coruscant ? maybe better to have that "Area 51" near Endor (and possible gas planet)

- show how the DS jumps to/fro Hyperspace

- nice idea with the "hiding" (nebular / asteroid field) ... not sure if we need to see only bits and pieces or always know it is the baddies station (maybe show its true size later - "look at the size of that thing!")

- inside could use some redecoration (I really like what Angel tried and did in some pictures => less red, more dark&gray)

not sure if some tubes or parts in the scene with Obi-Wan switching off the tractor beam aren't hidden in the shadow (need to rewatch that)

jumpcut to a curious idea: 3PO the carrier of the plans and R2 as his "bodyguard", hehe I like this on the level, as there are to be "spy droids" - only them knowing what they are doing *g*

indeed ANH needs more holograms, if possible and maybe Jabba is one of those scenes - on the other hand Han making a new deal at his palace would be nice too

I always had problem with the death of Lukes (foster)parents - how come that the Imperials shoot some jawas like it was an attack from Sandpeople, only burning the Lars homestead ?

the burnt skeletons are kind of creepy, maybe one could replace those with two covered bodies (or change the scene so that Luke is standing above them later)

Old Ben should scare the Tusken off with the classic Krayt dragon sound, but not with his arms waving - the suggestion of a shadow is cool, maybe leave the valley empty and Obi throws some rocks with the Force ?

Interesting as nobody thought of it, or found it not fitting: why not have a meditiation chamber for Vader on the DS ?

it would solve his brooding, long walks around - and he could search his feelings about the distubance that Old Ben caused

on that level, I don't think the "Vader knows Leia" idea works - not even Vader "sensing" Luke ...

as I was younger, my take on the Force was that it worked like in Highlander, where one was born as Immortal and all other knew that you are one too - the scene where Vader feels Kenobi, suggested this to me

later he senses Luke, but only when he uses his new found skills in the Force - Leia never had training, so Vader should not "feel" anything in her, maybe strong personas in the Star Wars universe have a high "Force level" by birth (and some like Luke/Vader" are stronger) - plus when one is trained, the practice of the skills feels like waves in the Force

as for "Padme" - good idea that she could have teached Ben/Yoda (and "Ani") how to become a Force ghost* - question remains who Leia called mother ?

possible sollution(s):

- "Padme" never died, the coffin was empty and all in the galaxy think she is dead (under Bail's protection she lived on Alderaan and raised her daugther)

plus the addition, that "Padme" is "Mon Mothma", the real leader ot the Alliance (this "reveal" could be either offscreen or in "Episode VI")

- she died long bevor ANH (therfore the ghost is possible) and Leia meant her foster mother (knowing or not, why she was sad ...)

*how did "Padme" learn this skill ? (she a Jedi too?)

I thought about Kenobi fight on the DS:

- he could do a "stunt" like Luke in Jabbas Palace, but he is a sneaky one so better not leave corpses ;-)

and blaster fire could trigger alarms too ...

the journey of the old hero through the maze, only to confront the "minotaur" (aka Vader) is a nice picture!

so should Ben fight or just hold off his ex-pupil until the others have escaped ?

the Kendo style is good, but I rather have a classic fecing duel - or leave it at mind games, we wait for the big one, only for Obi-Wan to raise his weapon to sacrafice himself ...

I think better position Vader before the blast doors, which are closed, later they are open for Luke/Ben to see the whole picture and escape the hangar

lastly I really wish the approach to Yavin IV that the Falcon takes is reduced to a minimum, it drags and brings the movie nearly to a stop.

Ok, that was all I could come up / remember, maybe got some more after I read other threads here ;-)

All mine are gone, I was getting an email every couple of days from youtube about copyright, so I eventually lost all mock-ups....damn the Blu-Rays

too bad you didn't put more stuff on vimeo, I read the ideas you and Angel threw into the pot, but couldn't see the outcome :-(

So I know that this post hasnt been updated, but it looked as thought this was an actual project that was kind of moving forward. Is anyone still working on this, because i love a lot of angels mock up and would be ecsatic if they were to come true

It's not a project thread. It's an ideas thread. For posting ideas on to use in projects.

I don't know what Angel/Vaderious is up to these days.

I think his deviant art account is still up, he is a a talented chap with still images. I would love to see an edit based on his ideas as an alternative to the sort of thing Adywan does so well.

In all the films Force users have the power of telekinesis.
The nearest we get to this is Vader doing the Force choke.
The scene of Vader physically choking the Tantive captain always looked undramatic and a bit fake to me and we know Vader could lift the guy off his feet and choke him with the Force so the physical act seems now unnecessary.

So what I’m proposing is recomposing the shot so the captain is floating in the air and is being choked by Vader using the Force.

I wonder what the Jabba scene would look like as a stop motion or miniature puppet replacing the CGI. Would the use of real light and techniques more fitting the period of the film sit better than the 97 and 2004 versions?
I’d love to see someone give it a try.

I really hope Lucas never finds out this thread because he could be inspired by the worse ideas I have ever read to alter further the classic Trilogy. Though it’s a funny exercise but I can’t imagine that you seriously would like to see those changes made to such masterpieces (well, at least two among them are) ? Or there is something I don’t quite get (I’m still a newb here).

(seriously the Jabba scene is garbage, Harrison Ford sucks completely here and the direction is poor: the issue of the scene is not only found in its cgi shitty effets, but on its totally pointless narrative value: it’s not a deleted scene, it’s an unfinished scene)

(next step: “what if Chewy wasn’t a Wookie but a Gungan called Jar Jar Junior ? It would make sense that Obi-Wan is led to choose Han Solo as their way out of Tatooine 'cause he knew Jar Jar Junior’s father, who was a friend on his… from a certain point of view, of course. Genius !”)

Nice of you to contribute. I disagree I think Harrison is fine Chewie is fine it’s just Jabba and the fact that what he says is already said by Greedo. With different subtitles and the dreaded tail stomping removed it could be usable for an edit.
As for the thread being bad well go read something else if that’s your attitude.

With Star Wars now in the hands of Disney and Lucas effectively out of the picture, I don’t see that ever happening now.

Here’s an idea I might try to put together… tell me what ya think.

Dinner scene with Luke and auntie and uncle. Luke gets up to leave…

-Luke: Looks like I’m going nowhere. I’m gonna finish cleaning those droids

he walks off, then, off screen we hear…

-Luke: Biggs?!

-Biggs: Luke!

-Luke: When did you get back?

-Biggs: Just now!

-Beru: Lukes just not a farmer Owen… He’s got to much blahblah

-Owen: That’s what I’m ablahblah.

Then we cut to the cut scene of Biggs and Luke drinking and talking. Maybe add some vaporators (or whatever they are) in the background to make it look more like they are at the Lars farm. Biggs gives Luke his news and leaves. We then cut to the sunset scene (the Biggs scene would be adjusted to look more like it’s nearing sunset).

This is linked in Ray’s sig so I thought I’d respond.

This idea is really good, but playing the entire scene in its entirety wouldn’t make much sense from a continuity standpoint, since Luke has just met two droids that know about the Rebellion. As Biggs is now on the farm, and has expressed interest in defecting to the Rebellion, Luke really should clue him in on the latest developments.

I don’t think it’s possible to keep Biggs’ defection speech if the scene is this far into the film for the reason above, so if that is cut as well as the ‘attack’ speculation, it might work.

Directly after the dinner scene, Luke goes to Toche station and meets Biggs. They reminisce, with the cut point here:

Luke: "Things haven’t been the same without you, Biggs. It’s been so quiet.

Biggs: “You’ll get your chance to get off this rock.”

This removes all of the defection dialogue. After Luke returns to the farm, the sunset scene could be edited to show Luke walking across the sand rather than out of the hut, as if he has just gotten off his speeder.

The only remaining problem would be Luke’s line at the start of the garage scene, “Biggs is right, I’m never gonna get out of here!” But it’s not too egregious.

You probably don’t recognize me because of the red arm.

I got one great idea. Update all the cgi with today’s tech as well as the prequel trilogy if possible.

I doubt that anyone that browses this thread is secretly a member of ILM, so updating the prequels THAT drastically would be nearly impossible.

Correct me if I’m wrong but Angel… Formally of this parish, hasn’t made an edit out of his work.
I was rather excited by the extended conference scene shown at Celebration. Another thing that should have been on the Blu-ray. I liked the implication that the Death Star is Tarkin’s power play, something that holds up in the other deleted material. Maybe Palpatine let the first Death Star go as a means of assassinating all his rivals. JeJerrod is a much more tame pet.

I agree. The radio drama strengthens and fleshes out the idea. Tarkin and Motti are in cahoots on the whole thing, and Tarkin refuses to flee the Death Star partly in response to Motti’s influence of needing to maintain a strong image to take the role as emperor. I like seeing more of this in deleted scenes.

It ties in with Rogue One too.
