I wish I could be optimistic about this, but because the UOT on Blu-ray or UHD is something that this world needs, I just think it won’t happen for that reason. We’re destined to be disappointed.
That’s an interesting site for this to come from. He’s right that they don’t cover rumors like this so he must know something we don’t.

And I thought I had a pessimistic worldview.
You guys have nothing on frevious.
You guys have nothing on frevious.
You’re right. None of this matters anyway because we’ll all be extinct in… What’s the figure now? Next week?

He couldn’t share what the sources told him because?

In depth discussion ongoing in the 4K thread in general discussion.
I would put this in my sig if I weren’t so lazy.

I was not aware, of such discussion?

Because then he would no longer have sources.
At least that’s the excuse people with sources always make.
I’ll eat my hat if it happens. Feel free to hold me to that.
Is it a fedora?
I was thinking of that quotation that’s always being misattributed to Einstein:
“Insanity is doing the same thing over and over and expecting different results.”
I feel increasingly insane allowing myself to get excited about the same OT rumor year after year.
It’ll never happen!

Is yours?

No one has to be excited over rumors. Wait for a confirmation then go insane!
The way I see it, come 2020 Disney is officially out of excuses.
It’s still not cool in the meantime if they’re holding it back for that reason, but it’s at least understandable from a business perspective.
In the comment section over at birthmoviesdeath, some people are raising the subject of potential enmity between Fox and Disney. After all, Fox and Marvel hate each other over what’s happened with Fantastic Four. But so far as Star Wars is concerned, the fact that we’ve seen a digital release and two reissues of the 2011 discs should be proof enough that they’d be willing to work together.
Other people in that same comment section debate the likelihood of Lucasfilm’s staff still feeling loyal to George and holding back the OOT as a result. But, like I keep bringing up, John Landis’ quote convinces me that George himself no longer has any say in this matter.
Landis, and the fact it was Lucas’ staff who convinced him to release the GOUT.
I would put this in my sig if I weren’t so lazy.

Another good point.
I don’t think Fox hates Marvel. Their X-Men/Deadpool movies are doing just fine.
Another thing to think about might be Kennedy.
George personally appointed her as the head of his life’s work; I don’t know if the decision is up to her but she knows how strongly he feels on the matter and might be holding out due to respect on both a personal and professional level.
That’s just speculation though.

All the more reason for them to remaster the SE in 4k as well, which apparently already happened three years ago. George simply didn’t want to spend the money remastering the unaltered versions. Now that it’s not his money being spent, I really don’t see any awkwardness so long as both versions are presented in equal quality (which is exactly what we did not get with the GOUT btw).
That’s an important thing to remember. I don’t think GL intentionally erased the OUT, he just didn’t care enough about it to prevent its effective erasure.
I would put this in my sig if I weren’t so lazy.
He might not have intentionally erased it (haven’t followed the issue closely enough to know) but he effectively did so by intentionally burying it.
I’ll eat my hat if it happens. Feel free to hold me to that.

He didn’t say he had one to eat.

There was a time where he said and I paraphrase “the original versions, if people want them, they’re on VHS, but they won’t last 30-40 years. Generations will remember the DVD versions, the special editions, because those versions will be the only existing ones left” Then in 2006 he ultimately, good quality or not, preserved the original versions on DVD

He went from “all copies of the OOT out in the world will degrade over time and none shall remain” to “Here’s the OOT on a format that has a life expectancy of a lifetime”

It all comes down to the fact that he didn’t want to pay for a restoration of the theatrical cuts.
