There is an entire generation of people under 30 who have never seen the originals or even remember them; so the SE is just how it always was and will be.

Doctor Who fans are just as bad. With Star Wars, its the idiot fangirls who write Anakin and Obi-Wan sexfiction and people who kiss Lucas’ ass and think he’s perfect who ruin it.
It seems like people are really embracing the new characters. In fact, the big question people ask me now about Star Wars is, “Are Finn and Poe gay lovers?” And really how the f*ck would I know? How true. The more time goes on the more I regret the times I said I hated George Lucas. Yes I don’t agree with a lot of what he’s done, and strong emphasis on A LOT, but from a artistic point of view I can’t really dog the guy. He created one of not only myself but millions around the world’s favorite movie franchises and changed cinema essentially forever. Some artists are perfectionists, hell Im a perfectionist, so for Lucas to want to perfect his franchise the way he wanted it it really is in poor taste to criticize him, to me at least. That being said I do find it unfortunate his views of preserving art seem to be different from ours and he did not make sure the OUT was preserved not only for the fans but for historical value as well.

Compared to a decade ago, this is rather mild. We used to have a few potentially deranged people around here making disturbing posts that made the rest of us look bad. I could never figure out if they were trolling, or really wanted to do George physical harm. Glad they’re long gone in any case.
But it’s incumbent on everyone here that if you see a posting you feel crosses a line, tell a mod?

I really don’t think that Making Star Wars would post this rumor if they didn’t believe that it would most likely happen, and so far I don’t feel like I’ve seen any convincing reasons as to why it’s not true; Digital Bits, for example didn’t exactly reveal anything new, so I’d say that unless Making Star Wars redacts the story, there’s some legitimacy to it.

I imagine there’s a sort of desperation involved. Most of us are used to it by now, but even still, when I think about the whole situation, it can make me want to scream. These are three of the most undoubtedly popular films of all time, that have had a huge impact and influence on so many films and filmmakers. The fact that there hasn’t been an official release for them in their proper form, and the fact that somehow no one in charge seems to care, can kind of drive you crazy.
What helps and doesn’t help is how much awareness of the issue is increasing through the internet. The complaints are more wide spread and louder, but that means they can also be more obnoxious. As usual, reddit is making everything worse.

Sigh. I knew it was too good to be true.
It’s time to face facts: Disney (Who’ve had revisionist tendencies of their own: Song of the South, Fantasia, The Lion King, Beauty and the Beast) bought this property specifically to produced NEW content which has been a goldmine for them. They don’t care about something from the past with a niche audience. It’s time to just face up to if: if we aren’t getting it for the 40th anniversary, the OOT is dead forever.

I think it’s happening, but yeah I’ll keep my all caps hype posts till it actually gets announced officially at Celebration.
Fingers crossing for both the OUT and a new “from-the-ground-up” special edition.
And yeah…I kinda want them to leave the OUT COMPLETELY UNALTERED. Keep the poor matte lines, and every little error. People spent hours upon hours of painstaiking work for many of those shots. The composites should stay as they are, otherwise they are just erasing away many of those people credited for the special effects work.
But for whatever SE they put out, they can go all out crazy. Fix every error, give color grades to match Rogue One, and even use some of the new CG tech they made for Rogue One such as the miniature model rendering. I’m all for something radical as long as the theatrical cut is officially available.

I hope that they release this SE alongside the OUT, but they should absolutely make no further changes. Unlike releasing the OUT, that actually would be an insult to George. I just want to see the 2011s with a proper master and color.
As for cleaning up effects in the OUT, I really doubt it. My guess is that the LOC scan was a reference for making sure no changes were accidentally ported over, as well as being a color reference.
