Considering this reordering, there is a potential place for the deleted scene directly after Kylo’s tantrum. Here is the work in progress placed at this point in the reordered scenes:

JEDIT: Including Snap in the scene creates a continuity problem, so the first part may have to go.

How does the Snap part introduce a continuity problem? This is before they leave for their attack so why shouldn’t he be there?

I really do like this placement though. It flows very well and naturally.

It’s a real pity there’s such a difference in Leia’s hairstyle during that deleted scene. In fact, I like that softer, ‘ponytailed’ look on her, and wish she’d had that throughout the majority of her scenes.

(speaking of discontinuity issues, anyone that ends up dispensing with the ‘Chewie/Nurse’ scene also gets rid of the fact that she is suddenly holding the gadget in her other hand)

Really I don’t notice that. Having seen how it could work in the flow of the restructure version, I would be in favor to insert it. timecode is much more an issue than a hair cut.

You hurt the Chewie/Doctor scene, you’ve gotta deal with me! 😛

Great bit of restructuring, and I don’t see how Snap poses a problem. And I would not allow Leia’s hairstyle to prevent using the scene.

Hairstyle changes from scene to scene? She gets that from her mother.

I’d like to look into removing the braid (and timecode), but I don’t have the deleted scene to work on. I have the 3D Blu-ray, but for the moment no means to rip it to my computer. Anyone else? It can be left for later otherwise, it needs to be properly edited into the movie first I guess.

Edit: Got it. 😉

I think the real difference is her acting in this scene. This isn’t Leia we are seeing, it’s Carrie Fisher.

This scene is integral to the edit. It explains why Han had to get a new jacket and shirt. That doctor stole them :p

The continuity issue arises from the fact that during the briefing they reference ‘Snap’s reconnaissance data’, which implies he’s off getting that data during these scenes.

I always thought that the reconnaissance flight happened before they returned from Takodana, but you’re right that it probably happens afterwards. Anyway, he could already be back or not have left yet at this point, since we never really see the time necessary for that mission pass anyway.

I’m glad the crawl is appreciated! 😃

Jackpumpkinhead said:

so did you use these same type of techniques for your crawl?

I don’t know exactly how it was done for TFA but I used the same software and got a close match so it’s probably similar.

Basically it’s just a text layer in 3D gliding past a simulated camera with depth of field, and then there are small adjustments like blur and a slight gate weave motion added.

The prequels just had perfectly sharp steady digital text, but TFA emulated the old analog OT crawls for nostalgia, so I did that too.

Looking into my blender project, I have found a few effects that may be able to mimic some of these same effects…all but the gate weave, that would have to be done manually. But chromatic aberration, depth of feild and slight blur can all be achieved within blender. I may do some tweaking to my project files to mimic some of these characteristics of the original Crawl. I have already made a few small changes to the project for a 2.0 version. Maybe I will have 2 different project files, one with all of the analogue effects and one that leaves things clean. I will probably post in my original thread any changes I make so as not to clutter this one.

Has anyone considered giving this a shot? https://www.reddit.com/r/StarWars/comments/5s8kjz/rey_sees_darth_vader_in_her_force_vision_how_i/ This would be a perfect addition to te visón scene if you ask me.

Honestly I think this would take away from Kylo’s appearance in the force-back. Also, the main point of this edit is a “gentle restructure” of scenes, not to heavily edit the entire movie. But nice idea none the less.

No, I haven’t. I’ve been really busy lately, and haven’t afforded the edit a lot of time or thought. But I do plan to try the Resistance and Starkiller bases restructuring and see how well it works.

I don’t think it’s seamless, I’ll say that. At the screenplay level, I’d agree it sounds like a good idea. But I don’t think it’s a good idea for this edit. There aren’t good transitions available between these scenes.

All right, I think this is what remains to be implemented in my editing timeline, aside from things that are still just ideas at this point:

Sir Ridley’s crawl,

Maaaaybe trimming out Finn being wrangled by a rathtar tentacle and Mary Sue coming to the rescue (undecided),

Adding the ‘Leia and the Resistance’ deleted scene if it can be spruced up and work well (uncertain at this point),

And NeverarGreat’s soundtrack reconstruction surrounding the final destruction of SKB.

Here is the Starkiller Destruction scene in full quality:

And since there were some concerns as to the relative levels of sound effects to music, I have rendered separate audio files for just the sound effects

https://mega.nz/#!jYE2gLTR!uuocFR69rewJ7IrKco5_MdXVeteqwBV45ErjwDZ6E5M

…and music only

https://mega.nz/#!OAtkDYTC!cboWXzD8RVBjwwitCvvXBLhdO3uuNZreKs03u6r6gGw

Another reason for separate tracks is that the music is a Youtube rip, so it would probably be worth it to use the high quality soundtrack file in place of mine.

JEDIT: The video has some jittery movement, I uploaded a replacement that uses frame blending:

Excellent work. I think the only piece of the puzzle is some replacement score audio from Sir Ridley for the First Order appearing over Maz’s Castle.
EDIT: At least, I think that was the plan. I apologize; I’ve been busy with the actual, real job lately.
