If you’re not watching Star Wars Rebels, start.

Nah, real star wars movies are coming out now. I don’t need a kids show to get my Star Wars fill.

Author

An animated show from most of the creative team from the movies, sure.

They actually are doing a better job with the cartoons than with the movies. But so far season 3 is very weak (I haven’t watched the last 2 episodes yet, but “Ghosts of Geonosis” was quite bad and very cheap), the new showrunner is not as good as Dave Filoni. Looking forward to watching his next series.

So, is it really worth checking out Rebels? Does it deal with some mature themes, or is it overtly kiddie?

I would say… both. Not everything is good about the show, but a few episodes really pay off. I would suggest to watch the complete first season and the overture of season 2; if you don’t like that don’t bother to go any further (the middle of season 2 is boring, it gets better a handful of episodes before the ending season). Season 3 is a huge disappointment which barely uses the finale of season 2 and which goes in another direction of stand-alone tiresome episodes. It’s however important to be familiar with the previous series, The Clone Wars, otherwise you wouldn’t appreciate Ahsoka and Rex story arcs.

Thanks MalaStrana, for the info. Hmm, well, I guess I need to continue with 3D Clone Wars. I stopped somewhere in season 2.

I stopped somewhere in Season 3, but when I picked it back up I was very impressed. There are some arcs that are just amazing.

I got the first 2 season on Bluray, in the original book cases. I recently saw the complete collection at Walmart, it looked tempting, and a lot cheaper than buying the remaining 3-4 seasons.

Mala gave Rogue One a rating of zero out of ten, so independent of her rating of Rebels, I’d just keep that in mind.

I hope the moderators put an end to this kind of petty, vindictive, and childish posting.

This is a General Star Wars Random Thoughts thread and you appear to be the only one who is currently off-topic. If you could allow the thread to remain focused on that subject it would be most appreciated.

After watching the OT and TFA this I have a few things to day:

  • STAR WARS improves slightly with every viewing and the stretch when C3P0 and R2 crash on Tatooine is more enjoyable this time around

  • Unfortunately I feel the exact opposite for Return of The Jedi as I’m less satisfied every time I watch it and the Ewok segment was pretty brutal this time around

  • After not seeing TFA since May I have the say the movie definitely holds up

Don’t worry Alderaan, Pepe the Frink means well, he can’t be as bad as he seems. He just wants to be noticed, it’s cute in a way.

Yup. Especially ROTJ.

I’m personally pretty indifferent to ROTJ at this point. I see what’s “wrong” with it, but it doesn’t really bother me. What’s done right is good enough for it to even out for me.

Plus I’ve never seen the Ewoks as a flaw so much as a somewhat odd execution of a pretty good concept (Wookiees, like in the ANH first draft, or something similar probably would have worked better though).

Star Wars is Surrealism, not Science Fiction (essay)

Which is an indictment of it as the conclusion of the OT.

Beyond the Luke/Vader/Papatine stuff I think the film is more entertaining than well written.

“Indifferent” as a poor choice of words. What I meant was that I neither see it as either brilliant or bad. My critical view of it is pretty indifferent. Like I said, what is good is good enough for me so that I can ignore the “bad”, which I don’t find as bad as some people do. I enjoy ROTJ quite a lot, I just acknowledge it’s flaws without being as critical of them as some people are. I honestly don’t think the general concept of the Ewoks were a bad idea, I just wish it had been handled better.

Using them as merely as a distraction and cutting screentime would fix the issue with the Ewoks. My biggest issue with them is that when watching them I know there could have been something more substantial in their place. And I’m not speaking them being replaced by a new species; I’m talking about character development, character interactions or generally fleshing out the story. If so much time wasn’t spent on the Ewoks we could have gotten scenes where Luke actually completes his training.

I’m not crazy about the title. I’m not sure why, I didn’t mind TFA, or even any of the prequel titles, but something about “the last Jedi” just sounds like the title of a crappy fan film.

It’s simple and to the point, I like it.

And at this point, there’s 1000 Legends titles and 100 canon titles, plus an infinite number of fan titles, so there is nothing new under the sun.
