Machete Order? mmm

Ok guys, i have read and watch youtube videos abouts this (the machete order), when i do my star wars marathon i watch it in order (1,2,3,4,5,6 and 7), i know that the machete order take you staight to the point in the history, but i feel that a lot of infos can be lost in the machete order, i say this because a lot of people out there recommend to knew people to do the machete order and forget about the regular order regarding to watch the star wars movies. of course, i love and stay with the regular order, but like the machete order too. is in my case that know the whole star wars movie history…what do you think about the machete order?

Anyone that would subject a new viewer to The Phantom Menace as their first Star Wars experience should be locked up.

I thought of doing this order but It wouldn’t work for me because at the end of Rogue One you see the scene of Vader that we all know about. By seeing this and then jumping into his redemption movie it’s a little jarring. I find that one of the strengths of machete order originally is lost if you add rogue one after revenge of the sith. Why, might you ask? I shall explain…

Vader is an absolute badass in ESB but it is a little odd to see him act so much more subordiante and emotional in ROTJ. Machete Order orignally dimished the effect of this because before ROTJ you get to see his fall and you feel the tradegy and sadness so then once ROTJ comes around, you kind of are more accustomend to seeing Vader being more emotional and on the light side after seeing such a tragic fall of a good guy. Of course this only works with fanedited prequels 😉

So my new solution would be the following order:

Rogue One, SW, ESB, AOTC (fanedited), ROTS (fanedited), ROTJ

Return of the Jedi: Remastered

Lord of the Rings: The Darth Rush Definitives

TFA, SW, ROTS, ESB, TPM, ROTJ, RO, AOTC

Really a quite compelling viewing order if you think about it too much.

I love it, and I dub it Blender Order.

I like the idea of the prequels-as-flashback (and actually wrote about it on my site before “Machete Order” was a thing), but I’ve never tried it personally. For a new viewer, I would always go release order, with the prequels as a last resort, so my list would be:

SW, ESB, RotJ, TFA, R1, TPM, AotC, RotS

But probably end up being:

SW, ESB, RotJ, TFA, R1, SW

Release order, without the terrible Disney flicks, and with Episode I and II in fanedited versions.

If you really want to put R1 (“gosh!” but anyway, let’s accept the input parameters) why are you giving it such a weird place in your machete order and where are the prequels that are far better than R1 and TFA (and the point of machete is to use both trilogies by the way) ? R1 after TFA does not make any sense. That’s being said, before ANH would make more sense but the movie doesn’t work as a direct prequel because of too many inconsistencies in a movie supposed to take place 5 minutes five prior to ANH. Hard to know where to put it… so you shouldn’t put this direct-to-video Steven Seagal quality flick anywhere.

Ok, I understand you hate TFA and RO. That’s fine. But I was presenting my order of watching the available films. I do not acknowledge the existence of the things you call “the prequels”. 😃

I have a hard time with Rogue One being the very first exposure to Star Wars. If I was introducing someone to Star Wars who had never seen anything, I would just go with theatrical release order.

I know someone whose first SW is R1. She didn’t understand anything and doesn’t want to watch the other movies. ANH is still the best way to begin.

I would just go with release order. Star Wars is barely a “”""“saga”"""" anyway. The prequels don’t mesh with the OT at all and the ST is kind of a sequel reboot anyway. The idea that all of the Star Wars movies even remotely fit together in any type of order doesn’t work in my opinion.

I wouldn’t recommend it to someone who hasn’t seen Star Wars before, but personally I’d go

RO
SW
ESB
ROTJ
TFA

I think chronological works just fine as long as you leave the prequels out.

With that said, this thread is actually supposed to be about Machete Order, to which I say no thank you. If you have to watch some of the prequels, the last thing I’d do is get rid of the least terrible one and keep the most terrible one.

A harsh statement albeit quite true in a way, but now I understand more why you didn’t like the “saga” banner used for SW.

That is a good point of course. R1 is a prequel and is supposed to be watched afterwards anyway.

If there was a scene similar to the one where Obi-Wan explains The Force to Luke it would be a truly seamless transition from Rogue One to STAR WARS.

This isn’t a bad order, but I feel like RO is superfluous to the story. You get all the backstory you need in SW, and by cutting out RO it remains more tonally consistent.

That said, I think a modern Machete Order would be something like this:
RO
SW
ESB
AOTC
ROTS
ROTJ
TFA

Not that I would ever want to watch it this way, but it’s certainly an option.

I guess but I enjoyed RO so I’d want to watch it again.

The main problem with watching II and III between Empire and Jedi is that all of AOTC and most of ROTS really has no bearing on what happens in the OT.

I pretty much agree.
I like R1 and think it works well as a prequel/lead-up to SW’77, but only for people who are already Star Wars fans and wanna see a little backstory.
