“Should you enjoy romance scenes or should they be as awkward as physically possible so as to make you want to commit harm to your body?”

Jake Lloyd really wasn’t that bad. Of course he was annoying and sounded dumb sometimes, six year olds are annoying and sound dumb sometimes. He was given stupid things to say sometimes, but that wasn’t his fault. For how young he was, he wasn’t terrible. He was far from being what ruined phantom menace.

It was certainly George’s fault more than anyone else’s, but his casting director didn’t do him any favors.

Nor did his acting coach. He was terrible child actor. There were plenty of other kids who could have done a great job. Good child actors aren’t that rare a find and there’s more than one better choice in the BTS casting clips! Every line Jake delivers is truly terrible and not just because of the writing. “Sandstorms are very, very dangerous.” That’s not a bad line on it’s own…

Also, along this vein, casting him younger and expecting him to act older while casting Natalie older and expecting her to act younger was a terrible choice. This comes off incredibly creepy during their scenes together.

The Natalie/Jake scenes were really uncomfortable. Both characters should have been about 15 at the youngest and played by actors that were about that age or older.

Yes. And preferably written by someone who understands normal human interaction.

You mean excising a song from a movie because it was sung by your ex isn’t considered normal human interaction?

I would put this in my sig if I weren’t so lazy.

Thank god Lucas sold the business to Disney, otherwise he’d be re-releasing A New Hope yet again under the name “Rogue Two.” Or even worse, “Rogue Too” because he thinks he’s clever.

Would that be because he directed it?

Do you really have this much trouble understanding what

means?

The behind the scenes footage from TPM showed footage that made it seem clear that Lucas chose Jake Lloyd over other, much better child actors. How Jake Lloyd even made it to the final auditions might have been the fault of the casting director though.

What’s this referring to?

Does anyone have a screenshot of the shot of Lucas’ pad of paper that just says “STAR WARS EPISODE 1” from one of the documentaries? I need it for comedy.

IIRC from a Lucas interview, he had seen Jake Lloyd in something else on TV before casting.

Probably what this means is that Lucas had already made up his mind, so the casting director just did as he was told.

Jingle All the Way I think it was.

Must’ve been.

Look over there!

It’s a featurette on casting Anakin.

I have no idea why I wasted my time watching this, but when Lucas was talking to all 3 actors at the table, JL was seated in the middle and he was the only kid George looked at when he spoke.

The other two child actors were even worse than JL. The only conclusion I can draw is that the 3,000 kids thing is a pathological lie, especially given the things Lucas said in other interviews.

That’s hilarious, I just realized Reese from Malcolm in the Middle was in the running to play little Anakin!

Some of those boys looked like they were four years old. I’ll never understand why George Lucas wanted Anakin to be a child in TPM, especially if he was planning on Anakin being at least in his early 20s by the end of the trilogy.

It’s just funny to watch that woman lie into the camera over and over again.
