E.T. the Extra-Terrestrial (1982)

This movie is a pinata – a pinata made of schmaltz, stuffed to bursting with saccharine-coated corn, surrounded by a horde of cute but annoying little children who all yell too much.

That being said, the pinata is a nice looking pinata, and the mom at the party has an ass which looks great in a leopard print dress.

7/10

This is the worst post I’ve seen on this site in awhile and that is saying A LOT.

I admit the “ass” remark was a tad bit much, but Dee Wallace’s posterior did look quite nice in that dress.

I saw E.T. in the theaters and I’m not sure I’ve seen the full movie since. I never liked it.

The Atari 2600 game was pretty great however. I played it way too much.

Last evening, I watched Passengers in the cinema, it was quite good. Of course the spaceship has some unnecessarily complicated maintenenace mechanisms to create dramatic tension, but that was to be expected. The 3D wasn’t distracting, either.

Now, I still don’t really like 3D and think it’s a gimmick that adds nothing to the actual movie. The trailer for The Great Wall was also in 3D and that thing looked horrendous. It was like cardboard cutouts of the actors moving in one plane and the background being far behind them.

Ceci n’est pas une signature.

I missed seeing ET in theaters. I saw it a few years later on video and it was easy to understand the reception. One of the greatest movies ever .

Deadpool has everything that’s become cliche about Marvel movies and adds a bit of blood and boobs, some cheap, vulgar dialog and the most Disenyesque romance (“She purdy!” “Him nice to me!”) possible. Worse, they hinge the whole plot on this relationship that we have no reason to be interested in and they put no focus on the hows and why’s of the titular characters situation. (because that could be an interesting movie that deserves an R rating)
It’s total garbage targeted at idiots. And it nailed the bullseye.

I think the point of Deadpool was that it was kinda a parody film.

I get that and I still hated watching it.

Just to give one example, I don’t think fart jokes are funny, parody or not.

I didn’t like Deadpool either.

I liked Deadpool when it was focusing on breaking the fourth wall. Everything else … was kind of ugly.

Agreed.

I only watched it because tons of people were saying it was “hilarious”, but I just didn’t think it was. I suppose I just have a different sense of humor.

It was funny and different, which made it good. But it wasn’t amazing.

I’ll give you “different.”

I found Deadpool to be entertaining, but anyone who thinks it has a shrivel of a chance for a Best Picture nom at the Oscars is batshit crazy.

Cabiria (1914)
Neat silent film from Italy that inspired later efforts, such as D.W. Griffith’s Intolerance. Pretty cool, with nice characters, an epic plot, and revolutionary camera techniques, but not the best silent movie I’ve seen.

Agreed. One of the best lines was about how empty the mansion was because of the budget that Fox gave for Deadpool. And the “McAvoy or Stewart” line also was fun. As Duracell said though, breaking the fourth wall was the best part of the movie. The other aspects didn’t work for me. It surprises me how much love this movie has gotten. It might just be the novelty of such a hard R comic book movie.
