I think Jedi is…okay.

I think we have different definitions of “okay” because I find ROTS to be okay whereas I find ROTJ to still be quite good despite the myriad of issues I have with it. I just have too much fun with the film to rate it anything lower than a 7.

No, we have just different opinions on the quality of the two movies. Especially ROTS, which I think is anything but “okay.”

I think Rogue One is probably a better film than Jedi, but the latter is such effective cinematic comfort food for me that I have to rank it higher.

To each their own but I don’t see how anyone could feel Rogue One (or The Force Awakens for that matter) are better films than Jedi. Rogue One is a total mess, especially in the first half, with poorly defined characters and really bad direction and editing. There is nothing like the Forest Whittaker character in Jedi, some guy who stops the entire narrative flow of the film for two scenes where he does nothing but talk and then stand there and die. Nothing like the giant plothole of Cassian just deciding not to shoot someone important for…reasons. Etc. Etc.

Jedi is a mostly well put-together and satisfying movie that for whatever reason Lucas sprinkled in some prequel-style garbage stains throughout. The new films are not even well conceived at very basic story and filmmaking levels. I don’t see how they even compare.

I don’t know if they’re better…I just know I enjoy TFA more than ROTJ and if I have to pick one I’d rather watch TFA. And that’s how I rank them.

In that case you might as well watch original instead of bad remake.

I prefer ROTJ to Rogue One but that film has better action, dialogue, directing and a far better 3rd act but I will admit that ROTJ trumps Rogue One in a big as it pertains it pertains to plot and characters. I was more emotionally invested and entertained with a watered down Han than I was with most of the Rogue One characters.

I don’t think I need to state why I think TFA is better than ROTJ.

That too but I’m sure you’d rate ROTJ no lower than a 7/10 and I consider that score to be an indication of a good film. 5-6/10 is what I would deem an okay film.

Anyone who ranks any of the new films above the OT is wrong. ROTJ for all its problems has the real vader and the emperor. Those final scenes are epic. Nothing ib these spin offs can match the OT…and they never will. The OT was done in a time where Frank Oz and Co created some majestic, mythological classics. Think Labyrinth, dark crystal and even Willow they all had a timeless feel that evokes memories and fantastical worlds. These new films are easily forgotten and do not evoke any of the afore mentioned.

I haven’t seen any of these movies but from the clips I’ve seen they certainly don’t feel timeless to me, in fact they seem very much of their specific time.

R1’s Vader acted more like his incarnations in SW and ESB than his ROTJ counterpart. I agree on Palpy though.

How come OT.com keeps getting members who can see into the future and why am I not one of them?

Are you including the OT in that statement?

R1s Vader was better than the shitty pre prequel Vader but still, even Jedi Vader didn’t say those stupid lines! That is not what an OT Vader would have said. Or his half arsed choke hold! I am judging future films on what I have already seen. R1 is the closest so far but not quite right!

Why don’t people understand selective quoting?

You didn’t answer the question, those films are of the same era…lucasfilms’s prime

No…if I was including the OT in that statement I would have said so.

With that said, there is some element of the OT that is not timeless. Hairstyles, for example. But from what little I’ve seen of the three movies you mentioned, they all hit me square in the face with a 1980’s 2x4.

You stated you haven’t seen them in their entirety… How can you even comment, the OT uses the same SFX, it is of the same era as said…

I think lines like “I find your lack of faith disturbing” and “Perhaps you think you’re being treated unfairly.” would have criticized had they been in this film. I can imagine people ripping the former line apart under the pretense that the Force is more than just a belief system.

Or his half arsed choke hold!

It’s a few centimeters for God’s sake…

but to others the space between his fingers could be a mile. But I’m just going to let the images speak for themselves.

I am judging future films on what I have already seen. R1 is the closest so far but not quite right!

Not a line of thought I would follow as different film makers are going to bring different things to the films they write and direct.

Which is known as “full disclosure.” I’m not saying they are so, I’m saying that’s the feel I get from the limited clips I’ve seen.

There’s more to a film being dated than just SFX.

I don’t see Willow or The Dark Crystal as “dated”*. Labyrinth, on the other hand, is clearly centred in the '80s. Just listen to the music or look at Bowie’s hair.

*I hate this term, BTW, due to its pejorative nature. All movies more than a few years old are “dated”, even the classics. Hell, especially the classics.

Don’t worry tho internet reviewer Chris Stuckman agrees with you.

Well, he thought X-Men Apocalypse was better than Rogue One, so I don’t trust him.

It doesn’t feel at all because the popularity of my opinions is meaningless to me.
