There was one shot that took me out of the moment, that I seem to remember being discussed earlier, but perhaps it was lost in the shuffle. It is when the X-wings begin their attack on the base, and the weapon is still smoking. I had a go at fixing this:

For reinserting deleted scenes I guess ? I hope you also will trim a few things here and there (Not so gentle restructure edition). The RLM review gave a few ideas which are worth taking into consideration imho (such as the comedy bits that take too much place and should be trimmed a little and other forced friendship reactions that don’t feel natural at all between Rey/Finn and Finn/Poe).
Also I wonder if Rey’s Force vision shouldn’t be splitted in two: first part as we know it, at Maz, the second part after when Ben Solo unlocks her mind, because there clearly lacks a “in between” moment when she tries twice in a row the Jedi Mind Trick. It could smoother the “WTF ?” issue of the scene.

This could strengthen a great deal the political background of the movie. 'cause I still don’t understand what’s going on in this movie from a political point of view (yeah I’ve read the wiki entries of the EU to know what’s the movie is missing).
Well, it’ll still be a very focused edit on this particular issue, but there are a few minuscule things I’ll want to do. Nothing major, just things like removing Kylo Ren identifying FN-2187 by name on the bridge, and a new, albeit very similar, opening crawl.
Small things can still make a difference. Glad you won’t touch the Ben Solo/Kylo Ren reveal, since I don’t agree with the edits which try to mirror even further TFA with TESB. Are you going to use an alternate title as well if you’re up to rewrite the crawl ? (Bloodline does not sound that great for a SW movie I think - I mean if you want to use the “prequel book” trend you’ve used for your PT edits).
edit: by the way I’ve shown my bro a few scenes of the edit (Hosnian system destruction replaced with a Star Destroyer and descending Tie Figthers; Han Solo death in parallel of the Hosnian destruction) and he didn’t even notice what’s been changed. I think someone not familiar with the movie wouldn’t be able to spot the fanediting, which is great !
Nah, the movie hasn’t been modified nearly enough to merit that. Not a bad idea, though, with the title motif.
The crawl will merely include a few descriptors for political background, like “…sinister FIRST ORDER has risen in secret from the ashes of the fractured Empire,” and, “Failing to convince the New Republic of this looming threat, General Leia Organa mobilizes a covert RESIATANCE to…”

Then I would suggest to completely remove Poe’s reaction “Our work here is done” which is too cheerful considering the situation.
For Finn’s “They have done it” you can only fix this small issue by also removing “Where is Rey ?” . I know the solution to split his reaction shot in two does not work. Or is it possible to replace “They have done it” with “Where is Rey ?”. Hum… not sure…

The biggest thing that prevents this edit from working for me is the “It’s the First Order, they’ve done it” moment. Not just Finn’s dialogue but the music. It’s the tragic violin Starkiller Base music, where I think exciting action ramp-up music would now be more appropriate.
I may try to implement the sabotaged freighter idea, since the moment needs a tragic event rather than an impending attack.

That scene is the Achilles heal of this restructure concept, and I’d love to see it be as flawless as possible. Lay it on me.
I haven’t looked at it yet, but I’m sure the fixed X-Wing approach shot is great. Thanks for noticing it and then doing something about it! I’ve got some other business to wade through before I get back to TFA, but once I do it sounds like we should be in a good place to tackle a kickass V2. Thanks again to you all. Some time ago I played around with that scene as well and I used “Kylo Ren Arrives at the Battle” from the awards consideration score for the music. First the part from approximately 0:15 to 0:27 for Finns solo scene and then 0:45 to 0:55 for the rest of the scene. Keep in mind that the album version of this track is different!
And for Finn’s line I suggest to wait for the upcoming movies. Maybe John Boyega says something like “They’re here.” or “They found us.” at some point so that this line can be used here.
But I think “They’ve done it.” works fine actually.

I recall someone doing the same thing with the “Kyle on the falcon” deleted scene. From what I saw, it was done pretty masterfully.
I think adding Vader and Luke to Rey’s force vision could be quite cool if done right. I think that was their golden opportunity to actually have Luke and Vader in TFA… something to think about for your edit. Maybe something subtle like this:

An interesting idea for an edit but it feels out of scope for this one. Luke and Vader originally were in that scene and were cut to keep the focus on Rey and her experience.
