So, all the original TOS FX shots weren’t lost forever? Can we get a redo on that remastering thing? 😉

Yes, please!! I hate the new CGI shots!

There are SOME of the Enterprise shots (in front of a blue screen), but definitely not ALL of them.

It’s not all bad, it’s just that I’m fairly new to Trek and I feel like someone who grew up with the special edition of the OT. Also, in every comparison shot I’ve seen, I prefer the original version. The 60’s aesthetics are a big factor in my attraction to the show and I find the new space shots totally jarring when cutting back or forth with the original locations.

Also, dig those stars!

The recomp looks nice, but maybe it would look better if the ship had more contrast too it? It looks a little flat.

That’s still no reason for CBS to kneecap everyone else that didn’t cross that line.

So I’ve been watching the 4th season of “Enterprise” for the first time and these episodes have been consistently better then what I’ve seen in the previous three. But the show still suffers from a poor cast. There is also something very off about this show that I still can’t put my finger on. That little Enterprise seems to be way over powered for one. The characters just don’t seem to act they way they should be. It’s like they are too comfortable in all these first encounter situations. Just seems more phony then all the other series.

It will all make sense in the final episode. 😉

Is this how you theorize this terrible final episode ? 😃

I’m currently watching ENT and TNG. ENT is not that bad but it doesn’t have the quality nor the density of TNG (it might sometimes top the best TNG episodes of seasons 1-2… from time to time… I don’t remember if it goes that higher during seasons 3-4). I still find ENT to be more pleasant than Voyager (except when it comes to the Seven-of-Nine episodes). Maybe Archer is less stupid than Janeway, might be that.

I’ll let you know in a few months when I’m finished with ENT 😃

No, i’m totally with you. ENT Season 4 was/is a major letdown.

Rogue One is redundant. Just play the first mission of DARK FORCES.

Am I the only one who thinks all of ENT sucked? It’s a bunch of terrible characters being forced through dumb situations, and it ultimately comes down to Archer doing everything before Kirk, even though Kirk was the first one to do/encounter those things in ST cannon. Even down to the show’s namesake; the original enterprise, as captained by Pike and Kirk, was the first Enterprise! And don’t even get me started on all of the technology they used throughout the show that didn’t exist yet at that point in the timeline.

I wish Scott Bakula was given a real ST show, because I think that with good writers and good directors, he would play a great captain. And I like Scott Bakula, so I actually would’ve really liked to see him in good ST show.

But I still wish they made a “Captain Sulu” series instead of ENT. Would’ve had much greater potential.

EDIT: By the way, I had to sit through the entire series because my parents were watching it, and most of the time they were watching, I was home with nothing to do but sit in font of the television.

In DS9, Sisko calls the NCC-1701 the first Enterprise, which implies that the in-universe cannon most likely doesn’t include that ship. It was just an unused design for a previously existing Enterprise that was never written into the storyline.

It’s hard to say, though. Of course, the series has always broken its own cannon on various occasions, but ENT was as ridiculous as Frink’s Star Wars edits, only in a bad way.

That’s funny, I actually liked the Enterprise characters. I didn’t like Voyager’s characters.

I agree with the name, I always thought they should name the ship e.g. Yorktown. Also original Berman’s pitch sounds really great, it’s a pity the network forced them to change the format to something “more familiar”.

What technology are you talking about?

Stories - I liked almost all of them, mainly the third season.

The tech that they used shouldn’t have existed in that form. They shoudn’t have had visual communication, they shouldn’t have had transporters (even if it was “new” tech in the show), they shouldn’t have even had phasers. It should have been as the past was described in “Ballance of Terror.” That would’ve made the show more interesting as it takes place in the past from a TOS perspective.

And yeah, Voyager sucked too. The only Voyager character that I like is the Doctor, which is why I only like watching episodes about him. I think his plot in the episode “Real Life” is the best thing to come out of that series (which bothers me even more because they kept interupting his meaningful moments with some dumb and unnecessary sideplot that destracted from him in very jarring ways).

I think that line is misconstrued a tad. Neither side in the Romulan war saw each other. That doesn’t mean visual communication tech didn’t exist at all.

The ships were described essentially as submarines in space. Cramped and such. I doubt they had visual communication between ships like that. It doesn’t matter either way, I just think it would make more sense and be aesthetically better that way.

The last season was boring to me. I liked the first three.

But it would be out of place now, as we’ve had real world visual communications with spacecraft since the Moon landings.
Enterprise should have had more imperfect communications though. Static, snow and garbled audio.

I suppose visuals of some sort between two Federation ships would make sense, but between a Federation ship any other kind of ship, I don’t like as much. And imperfect communications would be nice considering the direction they took it.

If we had got Captain Sulu we wouldn’t even need to worry about all this! 😛

Wouldn’t Enterprise technically be an alternate reality than the normal Trek series? I mean, it’s pretty much confirmed that it takes place after the skewed events of First Contact. Either they pulled a Back to the Future and history was ‘re-written’, or the events of First Contact/Enterprise actually happened in yet another separate alt. timeline.

Also the aesthetic of the show was awful IMO. The sets were just…how do I put it…everything looked too fake and clean, and it was lit like a soap opera. The all metal/grey look can work, like in Voyager (which I loved the set design of) and especially the movie-era Ent refit; guess it fell victim to the bad side of over-designing. The really bad side.

What, a man builds a giant mound of dirt in his house and you aren’t entertained?

The first rule of ST time travel mechanics: Don’t talk about ST time travel mechanics. 😛

Seriously, though, the consequences of time travel have never been portrayed consistently across the different movies and series or even different episodes within series. Sometimes the Novikov self-consistency principle is in effect, other times it isn’t; sometimes alterations made to the timeline will re-write the original timeline, other times it’ll create a whole new timeline separate from the original; sometimes time travellers into the past will replace their past selves once they arrive, most times they won’t. The discrepancies are myriad.

Author
Time

^And it’s not just Star Trek that has issues in writing consistency. Most time-travel stories that continue past an original work end up having some kind of discrepency. T2 is probably the time-travel inconsistency that annoys me the most.

I don’t remember seeing an episode like this…it sounds completely batshit insane. I’m guessing Voyager? 'Cuz I swear the writers had a fucking stroke every time they wrote a time travel episode. Some were enjoyable to watch, but christ almighty trying to actually understand them…
