It depends: is R1 the prequel to ANH… or the sequel to ROTS ?

R1 is the prequel to ANH, because ROTS is not suppose to be watched at all.

First thing you’ve said I’ve agreed with…probably because it didn’t include some variant of “I’m the truth.”

I am one with the truth and the truth is with me.

FTFY

You’re both objectively wrong.

They’ve definitely applied some DNR to match the film footage better with the digital footage.

Yup, for sure, which accounts for a lot of the “waxiness.”

The exchange between the two is amazing and I would have loved to see Krennic try to bring Galen to his side of thinking in a couple of flashback scenes. This also could have given the film more time to develop Galen as a character so that his death would be more impactful.

Definitely recommend Catalyst, Krennic is the best part of the book.

Funny you should say that as I was planning to pick it up in the next 3 weeks. Knowing that Galen purposefully crafted a weakness in the Death Star makes the premise of the novel 100 times more enticing to me. Also knowing exactly what he felt whilst keeping up his facade should be interesting as well.

That’s not what it’s about. The novel ends a couple years before the RO prologue.

Then I’ve been lied to…Regardless of that that I’ll still read the novel for Krennic alone.

Once you read it you’ll wish Krennic was even a fraction as interesting in the film as he is in Catalyst.

Ok…This weekend…I’m probably going to purchase the book this weekend.

But we know ANH by heart, we’ve probably seen it hundreds of times, of course even unused footage of Red and Gold Leader would be noticable to us, especially being aware the actors are much older, (one being deceased) to someone not familiar with the SW movies, I don’t think they’d see those shots of those pilots as any different than any of the other pilots. They made an effort to use the same utilitarian graphics and computer panels on things in this film. Many of the Imperial officers have the same sideburns and such as ANH and that era. Saying a film looks like the 70s would likely be a compliment.

This might be the curious feeling I… felt: 70’s footage into a 2010’s movie. It was like the ROTS trailer that used alternate footage of Ben telling Anakin story in ANH. The images don’t mix well.

The shot of Jyn in front of the lights was pretty obviously a glamour shot. However, majestic cape shot shows Krennic walking from Point A to Point B - probably in the original version of the film where the Scarif complex had two different buildings. It totally could’ve been used in the pre-reshoot movie.

TL:DR; if an alternate cut is released, I’m still hopeful we’ll see majestic cape shot.

“That Darth Vader, man. Sure does love eating Jedi.”

Forgive me if I don’t quite trust Lucasfilm to make alternate cuts just yet 😉

He said alternate cut, not forcibly imposed original vision 😉

And is there actually chatter we might see this on the BD?

I don’t think there is, other than fan speculators with no sources. No sources that I’ve found anyway. Come to think of it, I think I recall a story group member denying alt cut possibility on Twitter, but maybe I’m thinking of something else.

Rumor has it, Rogue One is supposed to come out on Blu Ray in April.

There’s a very close to zero percent chance we’ll ever see an alternate cut of RO.

Was it, though? Just before she and Cassian get into the archive room, there is a short segment of Kay instructing them on how to bypass the security that really feels like it was originally a part of a much longer sequence, that got cut. That scene would take place in the very same hallway we see in the trailer shot.

Maybe not official, but there will be a rayedit shortly after the BD release. Nothing major, just chopping out a few lines of dialog and the super dumb pignose/assmouth cameo. (and maybe using a few shots from the trailers?)

I still can’t believe there are now 4 Star Wars films that I like. I know a bunch of ya liked TFA, so there’s been over a year for you to get used to that feeling, but it’s still a shocker for me!

Am I the only one who thinks this looks more like Christopher Lee?

I’m gonna say that you probably are. I think it looks more like an older Michael Fassbender.

I’m pretty impressed by the Tarkin in R1. I fully expected to be pulled out of the moment by the CGI or the body language or the voice. So much could have gone wrong. But I bought it! Not as Peter Cushing, but as the character of Tarkin.

A very important distinction that I haven’t seen expressed yet and I agree with fully.

It’s a tiny detail that’s utterly inconsequential, but seeing this guy in R1 actually made me squeal with delight. Don’t know why it made me so happy, but it did. Maybe because it could be the closest I’ll get to seeing SW77 on the big screen.

100% confirmed:

We finished a shot and [Felicity Jones] was just walking to the next shot, which was at the end of the tunnel. And as she walked, someone switched the lights on and the way they turned on they went clickclickclick like this. Someone called her, and she just turned around a little bit and I was like, “Oh my god that looked great.” And I was like “Stop stop stop!” and everyone stopped. “This will take 10 seconds, just roll camera”…Then obviously 10 seconds turned into a half hour, and we probably did 17 takes. So that ended and there’s that feeling of, “Well what was that for?” And I was like, “I don’t know, that just felt good.”

It’s apparently true that most men are focused mainly on visuals and technical details. That’s what we read all over the net, “CGI this, CGI that”. For me the biggest deparature from original Tarkin/Cushing was the voice… oh, how I missed his rrr’s 😉 …a distinct accent from a person born 100 years ago.

I saw the original theatrical release of the Old Trilogy on the big screen and I'm proud of it...
How did I accomplish that (considering my age) is my secret...
