Really feels like people’s reaction to this movie in a microcosm. Of course some of this video is hyperbole, so don’t take it too seriously, but I did find quite a bit of truth in what was going on.

As someone that has seen both original videos immediately after seeing the film, that was icing on the cake for me lmao.

My 1st impression of ROGUE ONE:

It is an entertaining movie. Solid, but nothing more. I wasn’t really emotionally invested in the characters and the story. TFA was much, much better. The Vader stuff was nice to see (especially his castle). CGI Tarkin looked interesting and almost convincing. CGI Leia looked awkward and stiff. The soundtrack was okay, but not memorable.

7/10

At least the movie is a nice gathering point for all Star Wars facets (OT, PT, Clone Wars, Rebels).

So, after my 2nd viewing of ROGUE ONE, i’m still stuck at 7/10 for this spin-off. It’s just a solid action movie with mostly uninteresting characters, prequelish narrative (we knew they would get the plans in the first place, right?) and distracting fan service elements.

Rogue One is redundant. Just play the first mission of DARK FORCES.

They all sound like idiots.

Full disclosure, I really enjoyed the RLM review. It was probably the first time I felt like I was in the room with them.

Can you sum it up for those of us that couldn’t make it past the part where they all make really obnoxious noises?

They didn’t like the characters, and the standalone Star Wars movie wasn’t really a standalone movie. It’s a movie for fans, not for anybody else.

basically it was "how dare they show anything that was in the ot movies. How dare they show R2D2 and C3PO. How dare they have Star Destroyers and tie fighters and x-wings and AT-AT and such. They complained about the Vader costume. They thought the characters were flat. They actually thought it should be more PTish. Stupidest review ever imho.

Thanks! Yeah, I think that point of view is pretty dumb. How dare they do Star Wars things in a Star Wars film, really…

I still don’t quite understand how that warrants three grown men moaning and screaming to no end, but whatever, I guess that’s what the Star Wars fandom is turning into these days.

I think Rogue One is made for the fans. And I think that is great. Who isn’t a Star Wars fan, anyway? The Star Wars franchise is probably the most popular franchise of all time and if Disney can make money while creating some entertaining films in process, then I can’t see anything wrong with that. I am still amazed how well R1 actually turned out despite a lot of things. Folks who wanted it to fundamentaly revolutionize modern cinema are probably right to be let down, but that’s their own damn fault.

Some people just keep saying the movie is bad because it’s not what they wanted it to be. And apparently, RLM folks just had a wrong or nonesensical wish for this movie.

If from minute zero you knew this movie was to take place right before ANH [just minutes before, literally] then you can’t blame the movie for being “full of nostalgia”. I wonder what they expected, new designs?

It was implicit in the very premise of the movie.

Tired of people pretending to be right just because their opinion is expressed with emphasis, strenght and wit; hardly a case to justify anything.

At least alderan could develop a defined criticism of the movie.

Boring conversation anyway, have a good 2017 folks!

Just got out of my second viewing. Still like it just as much. I actually liked Giacchino’s score a bit more this time. Walking out the first time, I couldn’t remember any music. This time, I walked out happily whistling it. He’s no Williams, but he did good.

Other than that, my opinion remains the same. Great fun. Now begins the wait for the Blu Ray release and my R1 + OT marathon! 😄

Tired of people being unable to accept someones differing opinions and pretending there is a right or wrong way to feel about such a subjective subject.

Well you tell me: If we are talking about a movie that takes place just before the events of ANH, should be shocked and appalled if the movie has storm troopers, Star Destroyers, Tie Fighers, X-wings and the like? Shouldn’t such a movies’ universe resemble the universe of ANH?

Their reviews accomplish what they’re intended to accomplish; Pages and pages of discussion on nerd boards all over the internet. The film has been out only seven days and we already have two pages of people here droning on and on about their video.

If you dig a movie, you should watch the movie. If you dig a movie and there are other people who slam it with online videos or people on our board slamming it with walls of text, you should watch the movie.

I didn’t mind the droids’ cameo nearly as much the second time around. I still think it’d be better if they’d not have shown up until the end on the Tantive, but whatever.

They werw saying that all the movie had to offer was nostalgia. If you missed thier point, that aint my fault. I’m not even saying I agree with em.

Can we please talk about how now Leia’s feigned lack of knowledge about the Death Star plans being on board the Tantive makes no sense since Vader clearly saw a trooper get the floppy disk on board before the ship blasts off leaving him shaking a fist in a “I’ll get you next time!” pose.

And so much for “beaming” the plans onboard via transmissions.

All these internet Siskel and Ebert wannabees really aren’t worth the time. Pick any movie you like, even a classic, and there will be some guy on youtube tearing it down because they can, and because they know they’ll get views.

She was desperate, as were they all. I think she knew it was a pretty flimsy lie. Besides, they could’ve been flying through space for a long enough time to have made a stop to pick up Leia and more people for a diplomatic mission to Alderaan and she may have been pretending that that was the case.

It looked more like an removable hard drive actually. And the plans were beamed to the ship the Tantive was nestled inside of, so there’s a tiny bit of wiggle room. It’s arguable that Vader even actually saw the macguffin hand off.

As we saw in ROTJ, there is more than one blockade runner around. Vader doesn’t know which one fled the scene. It’s not a unique vessel in the SW universe. Even where Episode III is concerned, Lucas is vague about whether Bail Organa’s ship is the same one we saw in Star Wars.
