The contrast/white levels of the 2004 transfer bothers me way more than the color. Everything looks so dim and the sabers never have a white core.

Well at least they fixed about 60% of the screwed up shots in 2011.

They should’ve just gotten the ILM guys who did the PT to add lightsabers to the OT if they felt a need to redo it. Either that or just left it as it was in 1997. I can’t really understand how anyone could have looked at those shots, which are the most iconic thing about Star Wars, and decide that it wasn’t still a work in progress. The PT had no noticeable issues with lightsaber color consistency or brightness, and George seemed to be into the idea of consistency between the trilogies.

The colors aren’t a big deal to me, especially not the 97 version which had great and highly accurate colors apparently. But even the Blu-ray, to be honest I didn’t even know people took issues with the colors until I joined this site.

That was sort of the case with me, but I always was bothered by the magenta flashes in Star Wars.

Try 20.

Frankly whoever CCd the prequels should have been in charge of the OT. They should have finished ROTS and put all hands on the DVD.

I take it you’ve never looked at the lightsabers then.

Well frankly I have hardly watched the official Blu-ray or DVD at all, and it’s been years, so no not really. I just didn’t see anything that jumped out at me as awful from what I remember, but then again I was too impressed by the improved detail and resolution compared to VHS to focus on that much. I didn’t even know that the colors were unfaithful to what was originally shown in theaters.

This.
I had downloaded the Wookiegroomer versions of the HDTV broadcasts for the trilogy before the Blu-rays came out in 2011, and I was so impressed with the detail that I didn’t even notice how terrible the color and contrast was even compared to the 2004 DVD until much later. After that, and after seeing the Senator Theater screenshots, I quickly realized what I’d been missing.

You probably don’t recognize me because of the red arm.

Hayden’s ghost. It doesn’t fit the feeling of the scene (Luke seeing the spirits of those who shaped him), it raises the question of why we don’t see a ghost of Dooku as he was before he turned, and he looks creepy.

As a child I was so confused why Vaders saber kept turning pink and why Lukes saber was green on the falcon. Those damn 97 VHS’s were really confusing.

I don’t know if you’re being sarcastic here or not but those only were an issue with the 2004 dvd master. (that the blu-ray fixed somewhat)

The other thing about Jedi Rocks is that we see all these new characters and creatures and then don’t see them anytime else in Jabba’s Palace. If they wanted to enhance that scene without turning it into a trainwreck, they should have just kept a few of the new shots for cutaways and then extended the existing song. Like keep the first part but after Jabba says “Do that again” cut right to Lapti Nek as it already was.

That would have probably been received much better that way.

Also, the outtakes from Jedi added to Empire were obviously the worst addition to that film. It completely ruins the pacing and confuses people as to whether Vader visits the second Death Star on the way to his actual ship for no reason? If Lucas wanted that shot so badly, why didn’t he digitally alter the background of the hanger so that it looked like the Star Destroyer, not DS 2.
It might even be worse than Hayden in RotJ, I can’t decide.

Take back the trilogy. Execute Order '77

For me, it has to be Jedi Rocks. Having watched the 2004 DVDs as a child, nothing particularly is too egregious, but every time Jedi Rocks comes on while I’m watching with my family, I feel really uncomfortable. It’s just stupid. They should at least add subtitles.

That was your big problem with it?

That was mostly intended humorously, although wouldn’t you like to know what the heck they’re saying? 😂

No, I most certainly would not want to know that.

Can you imagine how bad the lyrics to a song titled “Jedi Rocks” must be? I’ll bet even in-universe, that song is a ridiculed joke.

The horn section of Jedi Rocks is somewhat catchy albeit by a very small margin. The rest of it is garbage…nah just kidding. Jedi Rocks sucks.

Well, “Hoola wang-tang” are words that exist in English to some degree.

Before despecialized, I’d be embarrassed at the point of Jedi Rocks if I was showing the trilogy to someone who wasn’t a “fan.” There are worse changes, but this one illicits a unique response for me.

If we are talking about Star Wars SE, I’d say remove the first 120 minutes.
That would just about do it!

I thought I recognized your foul stench when I entered this forum!

I think “noooo” is worse because I can close my eyes faster and more reliably than I can find the remote to mute the audio.

I’d have to say Greedo shooting before Han or even shooting at all. The whole scene was supposed to show how Han was not the most ethical person. The viewers first impression of Han was supposed to be of a rougher, less heroic pirate type character. Although I dislike most of the changes that have come with each re-release of the films, this one bothered me most of all because it changed the viewers first and overall impression of Han Solo.
