When I see this, I always scroll down and read the full Markdown Syntax caption. It’s what they intended to say, before having second thoughts and editing the post!

'3PO would say that it might be an Imperial code.

Been looking back and forth a little between some of the changes.
Couple thoughts.

First, WOW, poita. Thanks for all the efforts on your front! Will have to head to your thread at some point! Looks really, really good here in Harmy’s work!

Second, on the sky in the comparisons.
Blue sky on film has always done weird things, IMO. Not quite Kodachrome level weird here, but sometimes it just seems a little strange when aged, then scanned into the modern realm, and now trying to view it at home. On a not-perfect-monitor.

7th down from top screenshot comparison, for example. 2.5 sky has elements of that elusive deep, and very difficult to capture “blue” tone.
Being “direct” from the prints, it also looks quite a bit sharper, deeper, and so much better all around that it’s just not even funny. While I might prefer it “matched up” a little closer to the 2.0 blues, it’d almost be a shame to lose that specific little tone of blue here and there. I would guess that some of that tone is also a result of the film actually having had light pass through it, and giving it that “life.”

While it works well in some places, it’s just different enough from the other sources in places to throw me off just a little. I imagine getting some of these types of things just the way you want will be quite a challenge, but I know you’ll settle on something awesome and make it consistent, and cool 😃

Finally, at about 4:52 on the clip, that foot just looks badass on the “grindhouse” version. The contrast and detail seem much better than the BD.

Really glad I found this. I successfully downloaded Episode 4. Having trouble with the audio on Episode 5. Did the multi-part download of the RAR files through Free Rapid Downloader. Video comes in perfect, just trouble with the audio. Does anyone have any suggestions?

Make sure you’ve selected the right audio track, there are several. Sometimes it defaults to the isolated score. I’d need more info to really help you out.

Also, some software players don’t like DTS-MA tracks, so you may need to select an alternate Dolby Digital track.

When I first acquired the Despecialized Editions, I noticed the same thing when my computer tried to play the MKV version with Windows Media Player by default.

But there is a much more versatile open source media player out there. I originally sought it out as an alternative to clunky DVD player programs, but now I use it for just about any video I want to play, whether from a disc or a file.

It’s called VLC. You can get it here: http://www.videolan.org/vlc/index.html

I think the chances are high using that will fix your audio issue. And if it doesn’t, there are plenty of people around here with a lot more technical expertise than I have that will be happy to help you troubleshoot further. Good luck!

Hey all, so I know nothing about computers or anything, but I downloaded the original Star Wars ACVHD this time last year and decided to download 2.7 and the other two films (in ACVHD). 2.7 worked without a hitch, I’m still downloading Jedi, but Empire I think something went wrong. I used Jdownloader and everything worked fine, except the ESB_DESPECIALIZED_v2.0_ACVHD.iso won’t open/extract with Unarchiver. Whenever I double click on it (I have a Mac), Unarchiver pops up and says “The contents of the file “ESB_DESPECIALIZED_v2.0_ACVHD.iso” can not be extracted with this program.” The original Star Wars 2.7 doesn’t have an .iso folder, but I feel like I remember with the last version I had it did have one, and it was extracted/looked like a normal folder.

I can right click and open the .iso file with DiskImageMounter, which leads to the BDMV and CERTIFICATE folder. So I can play the BDMV file on VLC media player, and the movie plays fine, but I feel like the .iso should still be extracted? Eventually I’m going to want to figure out how to put these onto a Blu-Ray disc.

Any help/info would be greatly appreciated.

Sounds like it’s more of an issue with your ‘unarchiver’ program. Have you tried winrar? I think there’s a mac version, but you shouldn’t need to bother (see below).

ISOs are really made to be mounted or burnt, not used as zip or rar files. Of course, you can extract the files from them as well and play them however suits you. And if you can mount the image and copy the folders out, that is effectively the exact same thing as directly extracting. But for whatever reason your Unarchiver program is struggling. If you can get the files out, you don’t need to worry.

As for eventually burning to blu-ray, well, you’ll probably want the full sized MKVs then. The AVCHDs are specifically meant to burn to DVD9s (to then play in a blu-ray player, as essentially a small version of a blu-ray disc).

Finally, no, 2.7 did not have an ISO image (ISOs aren’t really folders, just to clarify. That may just be how they’re represented on your Mac). I made that particular one, and used plain files instead of a DVD image. Shouldn’t really make any difference.

Thanks for all the help. I guess I should just start over with MKVs then, haha! I read a few places that I should go for ACVHD, but I guess I was misinformed. And yes, the 2.7 has no .iso folder, sorry if my wording was unclear! And thanks for all you and others have done - this truly is an incredible project!

Sorry to ask something incidental again - but does anyone have any advice as to an affordable but effective Blu-Ray burner that works with Macs?

I too just downloaded Ep 5 myself and the video is great, but I’m getting all the audio tracks playing all at once over each other! Is there a fix for this?

So, this probably is probably related to whatever software or hardware you are using. Try using VLC media player.

hello, my first post here. i was unable to find search function on this forum so maybe this doesnt exactly belong here. i have a question regarding dubbing versions. i am from czech republic and i always enjoyed our second vhs dubbing - it has many errors from translation, even some mismatches between characters, but it is wonderfully performed. i believe it was done for 1997 special edition so i understand why did you pick the previous version. however, does anybody know if there is a plan to add this dubb version too? i think i am not the only person from czech republic which would appreciate that, becouse this dubb version is very popular. i even have very good sounding cut of this dubb for gout (someone did it wonderfully before) but my video editing skills are very limited so i would be willing to share it.

The current version of Empire 2.0 includes this track: 2.0 Dolby Digital [Czech] (1992 dub)
I believe version 2.5 is in the works, it could include a different Czech Dub, Harmy
will let us know I’m sure! Might be his favorite track! :]

I thought I recognized your foul stench when I entered this forum!

The newer versions of Star Wars and Jedi certainly contain a number of international SE dubs that have been re-cut to fit the original films. If Harmy doesn’t already have the Czech dub you’re talking about, I’m sure he would be happy to include it. Catbus might be the best person to consult on international dubs. So maybe send him a message to see if yours is something that is already in the collection or if it’s of better or worse quality. However, I expect that if someone has already re-cut it to GOUT sync, he and Harmy either have it or even made it. 😃

Thank you for all the help. I was able to convert it from MKV to MP4 and it worked perfectly for both Empire and Jedi. Got done with all of them in time for a late Christmas present. Thank you Harmy and everyone who contributed.

I have all czech dubs, if I remember also correctly synchronized to Harmy’s videos. Drop me a PM and I’ll try to find them.

Harmy, a massive appreciation to all your hard work. ESB is one of my fav films of all time and you keep improving your work. Big prompts to you and your team. 2.5 is looking great and I subscribed to your YouTube account!

Harmy, I know 1080p is in the works for 3.0 versions and up but do you have plans to do a 4K version/upscale? Any benefits to take use of bandwidth and perserving quality? Or no point in doing so at this stage?

Author
Time

On the contrary, 4K would need 4 times the bandwidth to be of equal quality with 1080p, so upscaling 1080p to 4K would be pointless and would either result in pointlessly huge files, or reduced detail compared to the 1080p version due to compression.

As for the '95 Czech dubs (I actually recently discovered they were made for the 1995 THX VHS release, not the '97SE), I didn’t include them, because the translation is awful and I also always try to include the most original dubs possible. If anyone wants any alternate dubbing, they are, of course, welcome to mux them in themselves - the number of audio tracks is way too huge as it is, so I can’t include multiple dubs for each language on top of all that.

I’m actually thinking about releasing the next version with english tracks only and then including links for all the different dubs and instructions on how to add them.
