I am sorry to hear you don’t agree with the truth.

I won’t rank R1 against the saga films, because it’s basically an EU story; not because of the canon/legends, but because of the purpose the story serves. It’s a very good EU story, I think, but ranking it against the saga would be like ranking the Zahn Thrawn Trilogy against the OT.
I think you can do that. I think of them as just think of them as stories and it makes them easier to compare.
If I had to include everything most of the OT and TFA would not be in the Top 5.

No need to be sorry. You just hear it wrong.

I totally agree. ROTS is a complete mess. TPM has its classic moments but falls short & for all its faults I’ve always enjoyed AOTC.
Yeah, as I’ve learned in this past month, TPM seems to be regarded as the best of the PT round these parts. But I think the general consensus on the inter webs is that ROTS is superior (an opinion I share).
Yeah, consensus on the web seems to be that not only is ROTS the best prequel, but that it’s also actually a good movie.
I think they’re all terrible, but it’s hard to rank them. I hadn’t seen them in a couple years, but decided to watch them a couple months ago.
I watched them in reverse order for some reason- I had been wondering about something that happened in the intro to ROTS, so I decided to watch it. Then it got me thinking about stuff in AOTC so I watched that, then I figured, might as well watch TPM to complete the experience.
I thought ROTS was terrible. I thought AOTC was slightly better. When it came time to watch TPM I thought, “ok, this is the one I always thought was the best prequel.”
I think I liked it less than AOTC, but it was extremely close.
So yeah… as of right now, as crazy as it sounds, I might rank the prequels:
AOTC
TPM
ROTSI could watch them again to really figure it out… but I don’t want to punish myself like that.
For the record, I rank the rest of the movies:
- ANH
- ESB
- ROTJ
- TFA
It’s possible that TFA might overtake ROTJ for me. I’ll see once I’ve had it on blu ray for a few months.

I’m sensing a pattern that people who hate TFA also dislike R1.

I disagree. I’ve seen plenty of people on here alone who don’t like TFA much or at all but like R1

Yeah, this is only the second time.

Okay. I said most people, not everyone. I also enjoyed Force Awakens more. I just know more people who enjoyed Rogue One more.

Rogue One… The movie so shitty I’m even beginning to re-evaluate TFA as something at least decent.

Sounds reasonable.

“This got Star Wars wrong by being different”
“It can’t rely on its own material and it’s too derivative of the Original Trilogy”
“If you do anything outside of what is from the Original Trilogy it’s automatically bad”
“Kids shouldn’t be exposed to gritty, darker movies. It should have been an Ocean’s 11 remake”

Actually, I’m going to update my rankings this way…
Excellent, historically all-time great films:
Very good:
3. Return of the Jedi
Mediocre and derivative:
4. Rogue One
Mostly offensive and repugnant but with some redeeming qualities:
5. The Force Awakens
6. The Phantom Menace
And finally, the irredeemable deplorables of Star Wars movies:
7. Revenge of the Sith
8. Attack of the Clones

I agree with most of this, except for TFA.
Sorry double post
Star Wars
Empire
Return of the Jedi
Force Awakens
Phantom Menace/Rogue One *
Attack of the Clones
Revenge of the Sith **
. * Pod Race and duel of fates are great, rest is crap, but RO is just sorta fine all the way through, so sssh!
. ** AOTC has more Christopher Lee and less infanticide

And more quotable bad dialogue.

Yay! Not alone 😃
I’m not even sure how that’s controversial. I’ve seen something in that rough order many times now.
