Also ROTS has zero soul.
Also ROTS has zero soul.
I personally think the theatrical cut of ROTS does not match up to TFA. I do cringe at many moments and there are still just a lot of nitpicks that I have with the script. But when Hal’s and L8wtrs edit are mashed up it brings ROTS up to a whole new level for me.
It really lets many moments shine and cuts a ton of those awful lines. Hal restructures the order of events for Anakins fall effectively so that it’s more believeable and relatable. And it makes scenes that used to suck, far better. Anakins confrontation with Obi Wan at the end originally made me frustrated with how irrational and idiotic Anakin was being. But the edit really brings out genuine tradedy for me. His conversation with Padme is farrrrr better in the edit. And most of all, when Anakin is burning, with the music, Ewans acting etc., I feel such pain for both characters and feel such sadness for Anakin. By watching Hals episode 1,2 and a mashup of his and L8wtrs for 3, it actually accomplishes the main goal of what I wanted the prequels to do, which is relating to this character and feeling actual genuine pain and sadness for his turn to the dark side to make his turn back to the light, evermore effective. Not to mention the other gems that now can shine such as the opening space battle, the fight with dooku, the opera scene, Order 66, the beautiful diagoule-less scene before Anakin leaves to save palpatine etc.
All in all, I still think I would say TFA is a better movie than fanedited ROTS. But I really enjoy the fanedited ROTS and consider it on the same level as Jedi. I compeletly understand your opinions and they mean equally as much, it’s just this is my own opinion on the matter.
I genuinely think Return of The Jedi is one of the worst in the series, because it has such a great opening sequence that could be a short film on its own but then completely falls apart in the following acts.
Nooooo. I get not liking the Ewoks, but the Emperor’s Throne Room stuff? Hell no, that’s the best stuff in the whole series. The space battle is awesome too. Yeah yeah “it’s another Death Star!” but the battle itself is still totally different from the battle in SW. And it makes sense that the Emperor would want to re-build the Death Star anyway; his whole plans aren’t going to change just because the Rebels blew the first one up. Basically, everything in Jedi outside of Endor is great. And I don’t hate the Endor stuff like some do.
The speederbike chase was fun but other than the Endor section of the movie has no redeeming values. I don’t even enjoy the conversation between Luke and Leia about Vader as Carrie’s acting in that scene is on par with her acting in TFA.
I’ve gone back and edited my original post after re-watching Return of the Jedi, and liking it far more than I remembered. The acting gets a bad rap but I think everyone does a pretty good job. The story is a great one to end a trilogy on, the characters all get important things to do throughout the film, and the score is excellent. The Ewoks don’t annoy me, and I’m more inclined to complain about the ever shifting tone and inconsistent special effects.
Not enough people read the EU.

Impoooooooooooooooorrrrrrrrrrrrrttttttttttttaaaaaaannnnnnnnnnnnnttttttttt!!!
JEDIT: Your statement is actually very true, and I think this is to the film’s detriment. Why are Lando and Han, two scoundrels who had little to no interest in the Rebellion, suddenly generals capable and willing to lead the Rebellion’s final attacks? Why are R2 and C-3PO used in the forest without so much as a camouflage paint job, while there were probably specialized recon droids used by the Rebellion for such missions?
The characters feel plenty important in ROTJ; they just don’t feel right.
You probably don’t recognize me because of the red arm.
Episode 9 Rewrite, The Starlight Project (Released!) and ANH Technicolor Project (Released!)
Why are Lando and Han, two scoundrels who had little to no interest in the Rebellion, suddenly generals capable and willing to lead the Rebellion’s final attacks?
Yeah, I always hated the way anyone could become a goddamn general in this franchise without being a commissioned officer/having any military experience beforehand.

Yeah, it’s almost as if they’re a ragtag band of rebels rather than a well-organized military with an established and stable hierarchy.
I would put this in my sig if I weren’t so lazy.

If there are no real-world cases of this ever happening, I won’t buy it.

So you have a problem with 85% (rough estimate) of all things Star Wars?
Since the SW Universe isn’t some Carrollian fantasy universe where the laws of logic are made up as they go along, I don’t expect people and militaries to act or react any differently than they would in the real world just 'cause Lazy Lucas, was Lazy.
I dunno, you hear about little rebel groups in places like South America where they give their people overly-important titles.

You’re weird.
I mean, it is a fantasy adventure so there is a bit of leeway in quickly promoting the heroes. Still, little ridiculous that Han and Lando became generals in ROTJ but it took Leia until TFA.
I always thought Leia was higher than a general. To me, she was always kinda outside the military system and more of an overall commander of the Rebellion. In Empire she was at least equal to Rieekan, I felt.

I edited my first post to include a spot for Rogue One.
Not enough people read the EU.
EU films ranked:
Don’t feel totally comfortable slotting RO in with the Episodes, but it probably place 4th or 5th, in contention with ROTJ.
JEDIT: forgot E.T.. Slot that in at the the top with A++.
Current standings, adjusted for the fact that another film has been released and that I’ve embraced Hal’s prequels since the last ranking I did:
1-2. A New Hope/The Empire Strikes Back (tie)
3. The Force Awakens
4. Return of the Jedi
5. Rogue One
6. The Phantom Menace (theatrical)/Attack of the Clones (Hal9000 edit)
7. Revenge of the Sith (edit and theatrical)
8. Attack of the Clones (theatrical)/The Phantom Menace (edit)
- The Empire Strikes Back
- Star Wars
- Return of the Jedi
- The Force Awakens
- Ewoks: The Battle for Endor
- The Star Wars Holiday Special
- Caravan of Courage: An Ewok Adventure
This was mine before R1. As I’ve only seen it once at it’s been just a few days I’ll have to digest it a little. It’s at least fourth but I won’t be putting it above ROTJ just yet… But I may have to. 😮
And in the time of greatest despair, there shall come a savior, and he shall be known as the Son of the Suns.
Update:
edit: updated.

I can’t believe I live in a world in which there are enough good Star Wars films that I can have ROTJ be 5TH on my list. That’s pretty mind blowing.

Swap ROTS with TPM and (maybe) SW with ESB and that’s my ranking and reaction exactly.
- Rogue One: 0/10
Hahahahahaha.
