Godzilla 1985 - Reconstruction Project (Released) — Page 3

I am hoping you can stabilize the opening credits, as the insane wobble sets the whole restoration off on a sour note. The cropping entailed would be a worthwile trade-off in my opinion.

I’ve tried that, but for whatever reason, Vegas will only let me apply it to the entire video file, meaning the stabilization and cropping will also affect all of the patches, undoing some rather precise work. I could try and figure out a work-around, though.

Come to think of it, since I’ve more recently found out how to add portions of one Vegas project into another, this should actually be pretty easy. Let me go try this.

The 1080p version is available now! Message me for info on where to download it if you don’t already know where to look! As of now there’s only an MP4 version but I’ll be creating and uploading a higher-quality MKV version that can easily be remuxed and burned to Blu-ray in the next couple days.

I’m just starting to sample the new 1080p version and the first thing that struck me were the much improved colours! Very well done.
This is the version I’ll be burning to disc.

I’m glad you like it! If you’re interested, I’m working on an HD version of the US dub of Ghidrah the Three-Headed Monster that I’m hoping to have out by Christmas. I should probably go make a thread for that, actually.

Great to see this happening it truly is the last piece of the puzzle for this particular movie, now the Japanese version, international cut and American version can be together in HD, btw I feel like I should mention according to my research the cut of the film from monsters HD is not the same as the ones released on VHS and laserdisc, that print is based on an earlier workprint of Godzilla 1985 and has some different sound effects and other minor things, I had a list saved somewhere of all of them actually, anyway just thought I’d put that out there for restoring the theatrical version of 85 don’t base it off the hd broadcast

Here’s what I forgot to put in my other post

In 2016, the International English dub was included on the U.S. DVD and Blu-Ray releases from Kraken, though the audio mix was not the original monaural track that was originally heard on Toho’s English language prints. The English dialogue was originally mixed with an alternate music and effects track that contained different music edits and sound effects from the Japanese theatrical version, most notably a distinct “cry” produced by Godzilla during the film’s ending. The U.S. home video version instead uses the conventional music and effects track used for the regular Japanese version mixed in DTS 5.1 surround sound instead of mono.

You’re right about the MHD version having some differences from the theatrical/video version; however what that last post is referring to is the fact that Kraken Releasing’s Blu-ray adds the dialogue track from Toho’s export dub to the music/sound effects from Toho’s 5.1 mix of the Japanese version, as opposed to using the existing mono mix. There are also two different mixes of the music/effects for the Japanese version, the most notable difference being that death cry.

I might eventually revise the audio track on my reconstruction to match the theatrical/video version, but for the time being I’m moving on to other projects, seeing as the current version is already almost completely visually accurate.

yea I remember reading that their were 2 different audio tracks, I think the whole reason they Kraken didn’t include the American cut was because of music being from another movie (Def con 4, or something like that) and they couldn’t get the rights, either way it being visually the same is great, will it be available in the usual place when it’s complete

It’s been up and available a while now; the download links are in the same place as those for the rest of my projects.

Just bumping this with a little update - I’ve just uploaded both the MP4 and MKV versions of this project to a private tracker that’s popular 'round these parts, so head on spleenwards if you’re interested! I’m hoping to at least get one other seed on each by sometime tomorrow, since I’ll have to disconnect from the internet for a bit in order to render my newest project without my laptop crashing, so grab them now or there’ll probably be a couple days where they’re not available.

I am seeding this one because it’s in the format I got it in. The DAM torrent is a little different from how I got it originally and it won’t let me seed.

Cheers for this going up for share on the spleen. It will make it far easier for those who are members here and there to get these directly.

Downloaded the mp4 versions of 1.0 and watched a few bits. Great work. I noticed a little wobble in the subtitle masking, but barely noticeable and better than what I could do. Also, great job upscaling the SD footage. It’s not a perfect match to the HD footage from Kraken’s Blu-Ray, but certainly better than what I was expecting. Again, great work.

I didn’t realize the Monsters HD copy had different music from the theatrical copy. I don’t care in any case, I just don’t understand why they just replace the Def-Con music for release. Does the VHS copy have Japanese music or is that from the Monsters HD only?

In any case, thanks for helping me find this version. First Godzilla film I ever saw and I wanted to give it another chance despite me remembering I wasn’t too big a fan. I’m rewatching because I like the Japanese cut and I just want to see what’s different; been a LONG while I saw this version. Also, I was surprisingly pleased by the Raymond Burr version of the 1950’s Godzilla and I wanted to see Steve Martin again… er, not THAT Steve martin 😄

Hey, I know I am VERY late but I’ve got a question, is your American HD release of Godzilla 1985 in 1080p? or is it in 720? I know you’ve done several versions but that is my main question. 😃 thanks!

I’d love to check this out if someone could PM me a link.

I’d love a 1080 copy if anyone has it available. Who am I kidding… a 720 would be fine as well, lol. Thanks.

possible to still get the link from anyone?
