I’m confused about that last photo. It’s obviously hyperspace, but it looks like it’s being projected and then filmed. I guess this is to more accurately capture the light effects on the subject, which presumably is behind that plastic barrier. Interesting in any case.

It’s the same effect as shown here.

They seem to have borrowed some tricks from Interstellar, in which they projected the star field, planets, etc. outside the “spaceship” rather than use green-screen.

I remember hearing somebody (was it on one of the DeSpec commentaries?) say they were originally going to do that in Star Wars for when the Falcon was in the tractor beam, but they found it easier to just bluescreen it so that they could make a matte that responds to the characters, rather than the characters responding to the scene.

Interesting how the times changed.

The rear projection Landspeeder scenes that were cut look about as real as that driving scene in Airplane! though. I doubt the Falcon shots would have looked much better.

I think there’s a glimpse of rear projection on the Falcon cockpit in the originl making of documentary, but would ILM have had any completed shots at that point in the production?
Perhaps George should have phoned up Stanley Kubrick, and asked if he could borrow his front projection gear from 2001. 😉

I almost made my father crash the truck on our way home from work because I screamed “IT’S VADER! IT’S DARTH FUCKING VADER”. He yelled at me but I didn’t care because holy moly this trailer is amazing and I couldn’t be any more hyped for this film.

!!!NEW INTERNATIONAL TRAILER HAS DROPPED!!!

There’s a lot of new footage and another glimpse of Vader. This has really got me exited for the release, only a little over a month!

Edit: Oh crap, I appear to be a bit late…

I think the line about taking chances should have been saved for the movie. It was a pretty strong line of dialogue.

EDIT:

Speaking of Jyn, I really think I’m going to like her. Having her family ripped away from her, her saying she’s not used to people sticking around when shit hits the fan and her overall demeanor in the scenes where she’s rallying the troops are all things that will make me certain that this is a character I can get emotionally invested in.

So, what may be the significance behind that crystal Jyn’s mommy gives her? Is it a lightsaber crystal? Was Mommy Erso a Jedi?

If she was maybe she’ll reappear later in the film and fight Vader though I doubt it because she’ll probably get smoked shortly after talking to Jyn. I still hope that’s not the case but that in conjunction with Harloff saying someone in the Force Sensitive (I very much doubt he meant Vader) makes this very possible.

Gosh… Vader looks… terrible in this shot… Is his mask falling apart ? (and why does he do a “hand-boner” ?..) I’m really wishing Vader wasn’t part of the movie now.
The new story elements contained in this new trailer are killing the expectations I had about this new disney christmas movie. The rebellion part seems way worst than I thought it would be (these dialogues, cheesy as hell). Ok it’s a kid movie but kids aren’t dumb… well, not all of them…
Overall it still looks decent but that’s pretty much all it’s got. Hope I’m wrong, I’m a fan of Gareth Edwards work so far (Monster - not great but very interesting - Godzilla 2014 - very good kaiju eiga flick).

I don’t have a fucking clue.

Either that or he is in the midst of clenching his fist which complaining about that is like calling someone ugly because you’ve been shown a photo of someone in the middle of saying something.

Have you picked all those nits yet?

The helmet seems right for the way he’s holding his head. Remember the '77 helmet was much like this one; The only reason you didn’t see something so prominent was because Prowse only kept his head so high for seconds at most.

I heard a theory that the Death Star’s laser is built from lightsaber crystals (can’t remember the canonical name).

Perhaps that crystal that her mother gives her is the last crystal they need to be fully functional?

What’s the internal temperature of a TaunTaun? Luke warm.

Well, it has been confirmed that Jedha is a source of Kyber crystals (e.g. lightaber crystals) and that Galen Erso (Jyn’s father) is vital to finishing the DS super laser. Since the film seems to revolve around Jedha and making the DS laser cannon work it seems that Galen is some kind of expert on Kyber crystals. If so it makes sense that he’d have some lying around, and that he and Jyn’s mother would be aware of their connection the the Force and Jedi.

You only need to rehash your OT avatars 😃

(as usual i’ll go with an animated tvseries avatar: currently South Park)

It has been suggested that these rings might be Star Destroyer docking stations.
As far as adding things we’ve not seen before this at least makes a lot of sense, compared to adding new fighters.

I’m still curious about what that thing hovering in the middle is supposed to be?

It looks like a planet shield (like the one we can see in Star Trek Beyond).

edit: I guess the x-wings destroy it, then the commando led by Erso can land on the planet, get the plans, leave, etc.

That’s an interesting idea. Maybe RO’s space battle will be to destroy or somehow open these “gates” to allow the Rogue One team (pluss other troops I’d imagine) to land on the Scariff.

It would make sense to have a shield around Scariff if it’s where they’re constructing the DS, or at least something vital to the DS.

I’m kind of getting at the tipping point where I’m afraid these trailers are going to spoil too much. Five weeks to go!
