New Doctor Who

Anyone watching it? What did you think?

I'm still undecided. I think Eccleston makes a good Doctor and the teaser plot line hinted in Ep 2 could get interesting. OK some of it is a bit crap - but that sort of gives it an authentic Dr Who feel.

The only thing I would say is that I don't like the 45-minute long stories. Four episodes per story with cliffhangers at the end of each episode would be better IMO.

I've heard that the new Doc has already quit for fears of being typecast:

What's the big deal? I never actually watched Dr. Who, but don't they change the actor every now and then?

usually the actor stays around for more than one episode.

Tell George Lazemby that.

What does Bond have to do with Doctor Who?

Uh both are long-running british franchises?

I meant the "one episode" thing.

Doctor Who and Bond are very, very different. trust me.

Would you compare Star Trek to Dallas? both are long running American T.V. Show but very, very diffent. The fact that they are from the same country matters very little. I find your comparison of Bond and Doctor Who to be very illogical.

It was a JOKE!!!

(Anyways, I got a good laugh out of it.)

That's it, I'm hiring a drummer and an audience to perform a laugh track...

OK ... I might as well ask here: is anyone taping these new Dr. Who episodes in a North America-friendly format? Are you sweet and generous enough to hook a sister up?

If so, kindly PM me. I'd be willing to cover any costs for your trouble. I'd offer a trade, but I'm not sure I have anything folks here would want ... I've more rare old 70's horror to offer than modern sci-fi.

I would like to see these as well.

Thanks, but my "I live in the sticks" connection can't handle that. I've seen episodes on Kazaa as well, but I need hardcopies.

According to the BBC site, there are still no plans to air these in the US. Not yet, anyway.

In that case, can you get one of those multi-region multi-standard players (I'm told you can get them for $35) and import the official DVD? It's out next month.

I heard it already happened.

Well, it happened already in some sense. He has left the show and has taped his final episode. But the final episode has yet to air. It will air on BBC on June 18.

But when will the new Doctor Who air here? That's what I want to know.

OK guys, I live in England and it looks like you are well behind on the Dr.Who news. Eccleston quit - more or less at the same time as the first episode aired. He's now been officially replaced by a guy called David Tennant, who recently stared as Casanova in a BBC miniseries. I doubt you've seen it in the states (unless it's on BBC America, I don't know) but anyway, he was pretty good in Casanova, kind of cheeky, so I think he'll make a good doctor, although he's perhaps a little young. If you want up to date Dr.Who info the best place is bbc.co.uk

Incidentally, I thought the first episode was pretty lame. The second was a bit better and it's improving steadily as it goes on, and now the Daleks are back it should be getting good.

War does not make one great.

I've never seen Dr Who, it was never aired here, but aren't the Daleks these R2D2 things who want to kill the doctor?
