They're 100% screencaps, manipulated in various ways. For Empire I stole a sky background from one of the snowspeeder shots and stretched it vertically, and the Jedi one is basically two images with their black levels adjusted to match.

As for the merits of the Criterion brand-- you've got to admit they have the best logo.

Following Arnie d. here: Jedi has always had major color issues ranging from oversaturation to muddy shadow detail. I think it may have something to do with the switch to JDC-Scope, since Temple of Doom displays similar characteristics. 'Course, that begs the question (all over again) of what an 'accurate' representation should look like...

This is really a discussion for another thread-- we're here to deconstruct Jedi, not to praise it-- but OK.

*opinion* Jedi isn't a movie, it's a finale. If it satisfies, that's because it contains payoffs to the two previous films. It may indeed have some of the best moments (I vote space battle) but it's also got some of the absolute worst: Does ANYONE buy Han mooning around thinking Leia's going to shack up with Luke, especially AFTER they've reprised the "I love you/I know" scene? And even Mark Hamill has gone on record as thinking the 'sister' thing was a stretch. *end opinion*

Back to our regularly scheduled thread. Hey Jambe, can you share any stories about how some of the rarer material came your way, without getting anyone in trouble? The Arizona stuff is still blowing my mind.

I can't speak for Boba, but for me it's a generational thing. That first film I will always refer to as Star Wars, no bloody subtitle or chapter heading-- folks who are comfortable calling it A New Hope I think are also more comfortable viewing the films as one solid work, with Jedi holding all the climaxes and resolutions. To me the films are three very different animals with different merits.

And I've always found Leia's Empire snowsuit sexier than that harem outfit.

I'm currently downloading the SL NTSC, and adding my thanks to boon.

One thing, for future reference: ISO formatting is tricky (at least for my tech-ignorant self) because it means if I want to help seed a disc later on, having since burned it and freed up my hard drive, I have to re-convert it to an ISO before it's any good to anyone. Straight-up TS folders, I can just drag and drop. Thoughts?

Okay, here's the Big Positive Post:

A worthy successor to Building Empire in every way. If there's another millisecond of Slave Bikini B-Roll out there I defy anyone to find it without taking an all-access tour of the Skywalker archives. That Super-8 footage... holy crap. What do you bet Sansweet tries to figure out who shot that?

Love the FX breakdowns, especially the match-move on the Imperial Reception painting-- that can't have been easy.

Skiff flyby audio, matched to the guy driving an ATC. Cute.

Caught Luke's blue trailersaber in the deck fight, but I never saw that video clip of the hero prop before-- what's that from?

My favorite bits are the details that were right under my nose-- has that Hell's Angel stormtrooper really been there all along? Crazy.

"Teddy Bears' Picnic": More proof that Harrison Ford was just trying to get fired, always a plus.
