I like their fries.

Anyone remember "freedom fries"?

Yeah, that was dumb.

How big was the freedom fries thing? Back in 2001 I was lucky if I got to check my email once a week or so, and didn't have much access to the internet, and when I did it was really, really slow. I heard about it from another American in a conversation I remember being very frustrating (I hate when people tell you something vague, and have no details to offer about it).

"You know, they call them freedom fries now."

"What?

"Freedom fries. They call french fries freedom fries now."

"Who does?"

"They do."

"Who is 'they'?"

"In America, they are freedom fries now, and not french fries."

"I get that we're talking about in America, but who calls them that?"

"Americans do."

I was imagining anything from a small minority of people demanding that they be called "freedom fries" and getting a lot of press buzz over it, to restaurant menus being changed and McDonald's tellers asking, "Would you like freedom fries with that?" I'm now under the impression it was something very minor that caused most people to roll their eyes when they heard it. To what extent did this "freedom fry" thing actually go?

Wikipedia has a good explanation for this.

Nostalgia and Nostalgic Memories
Time

I'd like to talk about this subject:

We've always had two Blockbusters around where we live, one in downtown Wyandotte(which is now a medical clinic) and one in Lincoln Park on Fort St. I think we most often went to the store Lincoln Park, but once in a while we went to the Blockbuster in Wyandotte. One of those times when we visited the Wyandotte store I got to pick out a video game, which at the time the system I had was a SNES, the game I picked out looked weird with a strange yellow spaceman on the front of the box, I almost thought it was a mecha-type thing because I could see a characters reflection in the spaceman's visor.

We rented it, it was the first game you could name your character and it would show up in game as the name you chosen. It was my first RPG I've ever played. I took it back to Blockbuster without getting very far in the game. About a year later, I rented it again this time it came with the strategy guide, which was pretty beat up. We ended up liking this game so much we bought it.

I had no idea this game was so valuable! I remember playing it as a kid at my friend's house! We cheated and used our hands to run faster on the pad! Too bad I didn't have the foresight to steal it!

That last part's a joke, by the way.

Same game, different title. Stadium Events is a World Class Track Meet under its original name. Nintendo bought the rights for Stadium Events and most of the games were recalled and destroyed.

This is very interesting.

Here is a article about the differences in The Legend of Zelda localization, my favorite part is the differences in the NES and Famicom Disk System audio.

Not that anyone has done this here but I do get annoyed when people call a genuine one sided emotional bond a crush.

In the American vernacular, at least, that is exactly what a crush is, a one-sided emotional bond. Or is the situation you are describing one where a person has let the other one know how they feel, find they do not feel the same way in return, and yet still cling on and keep trying? If that is the case, I agree. That is something very different from a crush, more of a creepy stalker situation.

What you're describing sounds like the friend-zone.

I'm getting a Wii U before the end of April and I'm pretty excited for that. I'm going to have to get a copy of Metroid Prime Trilogy. Any suggestions for Wii games?

Lego City Undercover!!

Haven't seen much on this one, but I've definitely enjoyed the other Lego games, so I'm probably considering it.

It's too bad that Fives thinks he's too cool for gaming these days.

Look at his legs. I've heard they use prosthetic legs to keep blood from flowing to the legs in high g-forces, but I've also heard that the legs are somewhat of a tribute to puppet shows like the Thunderbirds.
