Star Wars: Episode VII to be directed by J.J. Abrams **NON SPOILER THREAD**

...They also say that users of the dark side of The Force who aren't called "Sith" will confuse non-fans, a claim so rediculous that I don't know what to say.

I always thought that bad-guy force-user = sith. So a bad-guy who uses the force would be a sith to me. So, yeah, I can see it being confusing... except that I can't see how it would matter to the story or to anybody that the bad guy using the force isn't actually a "sith" (whatever that even means). It's like a christian being a Baptist or a Pentecostal. The denominational differences probably means much to the individual, but it's all Christianity to a heathen like me.

I went through the majority of the Universal classics...though it gets verry bad:

Dracula-Masterpiece with all of its flaws. 4/4

Spanish version-Better made in every way but drags on too long and is inferior sadly. 3/4

Frankenstein-Masterpiece. 4/4

The Mummy-Masterpiece. 4/4

The Old Dark House-I LOVE JIMMY WHALE. 4/4

The Invisible Man-Masterpiece. 4/4

The Black Cat-Obviously shorn to pieces by censors, made obvious by the ludicrous lack of plotting. Still it's Bela vs. Boris amidst supreme atmosphere, what's not to love? 3/4

Bride of Frankenstein-One of the great American films, one of the best films ever made, arguably the best picture of the 1930's, Whale's masterpiece, and easily by and large the greatest of all horror films. 4/4

Son of Frankenstein-Most underrated Universal horror. A great classic with Lugosi's best performance. 4/4

The Wolf Man-the least of the original monsters, because of plotting and low budgets, TWM excels in atmosphere and character portrayal with Lon Chaney Jr. truly nailing Talbot's accursed existence and Claude Rains performing as the screen's greatest supporting actor. 4/4

Nice reviews! Bold-ed for agreement! Bride Of Frankenstein is my favorite film. James Whale is too wonderful for words. Glad to see someone else giving Son Of Frankenstein some respect. I think it fits right along with the first two and is followed up nicely by Mel Brooks Young Frankenstein.

I see your point except for removing Anakin's sith eyes in ROTS. His deeds in ROTS were truly evil.....I mean he slaughtered children.....Ady should keep them from Anakin seeing as the fact that he slaughtered a room full of children.

People slaughter children everyday and nobody's eyes tun yellow. It's a lame device.

I think the concept of evil deeds not only poisoning your body, but your soul to be compelling.

Evil deeds do indeed poison your soul much more than your physical form. Oscar Wilde's 'The Picture Of Dorian Gray' is a wonderful example of this. But this concept has nothing to do with silly yellow eyes. Again, it's a lame device used to make sure even the lowest common denominator can understand that Anikin is falling to the dark side and changing into someone evil.

Can Episode VII ignore the prequels?

The EU is far worse than the prequels.

You speak of the EU as if it's an actual film titled Star Wars: Expanded Universe that you dismiss as easily as TPM.

How can you reject that many books, comics, and games as a whole? What EU have you even encountered? I don't mean to sound confrontational, but seriously think about what you're claiming.

I know exactly what I'm claiming. I have read and researched the EU and I hate every bit of it.

Anyway, the sequel trilogy can do things to compensate for the prequels. For example, Luke could say, "The Jedi used to believe in midichlorians, but we now know that midichlorians don't exist."

Except that they could check your blood and count the midichlorophill in it, so obviously it exists in this 9 episode version of Star Wars. That's like saying, "We used to believe in HIV, but we now know that it never existed." Unfortunately, it isn't something the Jedi believe in, it's something they've proved.

And it's very, very lame.

They somehow made Superman a blander hero than he already is.

Superman's only bland when lameass writers choose to write him that way.

I guess that's true. I'm not a comic book guy

As a comic book guy, I can tell you, No, that's not true. Superman is bland. Overpowered to the point of eye-rolling silliness. Here's my thoughts from another thread..

Is it just me, or do most people who call Superman a bland/overpowered/dick/etc. superhero happen to be people who

1. have read few to any of the comics?

2. have read only the Silver & Bronze Age comics?

3. have read only The Dark Knight Returns?

4. only know the character from the Chris Reeve movies and/or silly Saturday morning cartoons from the 60's & 70's?

The "silly" cartoons and Christopher Reeves movie are my favorite Superman products. The whole idea of Superman is goofy and silly and even more so when the material is handled with an overly serious tone. I grew up reading comic books and hanging out in the comic shop and still do with some regularity, so I'm no stranger to Superman (silver, bronze & golden). I'm in the "Superman is overpowered and silly" camp. Most of the time when he's in some kind of trouble or trying to get someone else out of trouble, it's impossible to not say something like "Why don't you just use your _____ power?!?!". When the tone isn't so serious, it's easier to dismiss such things and just have fun with it.
