OFFICIAL: Library of Congress had original prints replaced with 1997 SE
Time

I didn’t find a better topic already so I’ll post here.

I asked our national film institute about SW prints if they have any and I actually got pretty good info. They have two copies from SW that date before the 90s and at least one of them doesn’t have “ANH” in the beginning and colors are supposedly great, so they’re assuming it’s in Technicolor. They don’t have TESB at all but they do have four prints of ROTJ. Naturally they all are probably subtitled. Anyways, thought I shared this info with you. Would be interesting to hear from other countries do they still have copies.

Well that’s good news that they have two copies from before the 90’s of Star Wars. Did they specify which prints ROTJ was? But it’s unfortunate that they don’t have a copy of ESB.
Anyways thanks for checking in on that.

4K restoration on Star Wars

Great, I like it. But here might be something you could do.

First, Keep it in the small form, but can we also address and send a copy to Fox. And state “Properly Restored” versions of the films.

Second, based on what everyone is saying, have a link to the home page of this site and encourage them to click on it.

Third, Add to the homepage a longer letter stating the importance of the Original Cut to the history of cinema and their the reason the films got awards in the first place. Including the links to the comparison galleries stating that the Special Edition/ Recent cuts are not the same film.

Forth, in the longer letter on home page, include ideas for different sets they could release (any retail, not special store sets). Include a sentence saying the Original cuts of the Prequels will be nice as well.

Fifth, Include a thank you from this site and it’s members. Also including a thank you from the Star Wars fans and communities.

Thank you, hopefully we will get our wishes.

I like the letter, but we should also send the letter to 20th Century Fox. They own ANH forever. It could be addressed to All three Companies. As such:

Disney Letter:
Dear,
Disney, Lucasfilm, and 20th Century Fox…

Lucasfilm Letter:

Dear,
Lucasfilm, Disney, and 20th Century Fox…

Fox Letter:

Dear,
20th Century Fox, Lucasfilm, and Disney…

You get the idea, hope it helps.

I’ve said many times that I would love a three-disc-per-movie release with unaltered, '97, and the new 4k SE (wouldn’t really care if the '04 and '11 versions weren’t included).

They could probably fit all the SEs versions (97, 04, 11) of a single film on a single disc w/seamless branching. They could also probably rope in the unaltered version as well, but then you’d be playing with fire in terms of color accuracy. It worked with Blade Runner (I think disc 1 of the 5-disc set contained the theatrical, international cut, and 1st director’s cut. I think.)

You read my mind! I was going to say all of this, but didn’t.

They could easily branch those three versions onto the same disc. I would want them to go with the '97 color timing, though. The color-timing of the lowry master isn’t worth preserving to me. A 4k scan of the '97 interpositive, given the proper restoration and mastering, would probably produce better results than the 2k scan / 1080p master of the o-neg did in 2004.

But yes, the actual content changes (landspeeder and Jabba re-do and aurebesh tractor beam signage in '04, blinking wicket and Vader Noooo in '11, etc) could probably be branched in without any problem since they’re so few and far between.

I doubt we’ll even get any of those three versions, though. Not even the '97. It will probably just be this new 4k version which, for all we know, might simply be the 2011 version in terms of content.

It was the middle of the three actual blu-rays on the five disc Blade Runner set that you’re thinking of. The second and fourth discs were just regular dvds with the Dangerous Days documentary and bonus features, respectively.

To be honest I would want them to keep the 04/11 versions the way they are, just to show how screwed up a movie can get that isn’t properly taken care of. Bit then again that’s my opinion.

TNT Network 20 September 6 Star Wars Movies
Time

I’m watching the 8:00pm Est showing of The Phantom Menace right now. It’s the 2011 version with the DNR and CGI Yoda. However it is also the Lucasfilm only version with the ESB end credits music. And it does look like its been cropped to 16:9 aspect ratio.

I’m still keeping my chin up and hope for the day (or next year) we get the OUT (and the theatrical versions of the prequels) on Blu-ray and remastered DVD.

I too am hoping that one day we will have both the Original Unaltered Trilogy(OUT) and the Prequel Unaltered Trilogy(PUT). I hope that all of them are restored in 4K with the correct Colors and Contrast as well.

The Force Awakens Fan Edit Ideas - ** SPOILERS **
Time

I’m sure theses have been brought up, but here are my ideas on what should be added:

  1. I would like to see Maz at the Resistance base (those scenes were shot and if I read correctly a last minute cut out).
  2. If the scene(s) on Hosnian Prime are complete, I would like to see those as well, because it would create a more emotional impact when the Starkiller Base destroys the system. Plus, it will tie this movie in with the (should I say it) Prequels better. It would also help make it a little more it’s own story, in my opinion.
    Edit:
    1. Another one, if completed or filmed. The scene with Kylo Ren on the Falcon.
    2. The Speeder chase on Starkiller is probably one that would be cool to see, but I think this one was cut very early.

There maybe more ideas once the Blu-ray/ DVD comes out, to know exactly what the deleted scenes are.
The rest of the movie should be left as is.

Could "Force Vision" explain how Leia knows what her mother looks like? Discussion
Time

SilverWook said:

Both were Senators, so it’s very possible Leia has walked in her mother’s footsteps on Coruscant. She could even have had a residence in the same building.

This takes place on Naboo, but she has a vision of Darth Maul (Shattered Empire comic). In another comic (Princess Leia) she see a picture of her mom as Queen that turns and looks at her.

Both are shown here:

Could "Force Vision" explain how Leia knows what her mother looks like? Discussion
Time

So it just hit me the other day that Leia told Luke she knows what their mother looks like, based on Images/ Feelings. At this point Luke says he has no memory of her, also explaining that “The Force Is Strong In My Family…”

As we know Padme died minutes after they were born.

Could she have come into contact with an item that was owned by Padme? If so, did she have a vision similar to Reys?

Is that our first top two placement for TFA?

It might be.
It took me some thinking and it was hard for me to choose if ANH or TFA was #2. I rank it at #2 because of the comedy in it, I enjoy good comedy. But that’s my opinion.

I would be interested in seeing him do one of the spin offs.
Particularly if he could do it under an assumed name.
You could announce his directing of one of them but his was actually directing a different one, just to see if audiences could sense his presence so to speak.
It would be an experience to see how he would direct a Star Wars film he had no script input in.

But that’s just not going to happen is it?

That could work, but it doesn’t seem like it will ever happen at the moment. It will go great if he could learn from his Directing mistakes and have help from other Directors.

Lucas is done with Star Wars, not only would Disney not hire him, but to come back to Star Wars after (I imagine) working so hard to emotionally deal with leaving would be crazy!

He’d also be trying to work with a story he doesn’t even approve of! So IMO it’s just really wishful thinking…

Yep, I do agree with you on that. I kind feel sad for Mr. Lucas.

I’m sure he’s crying in his four billion one dollar bills.

I didn’t mean it quite like that, but I do get your point.

After what Disney did to his animated film Strange Magic last year, I doubt he would want to direct anything for them at the moment.

Disney probably isn’t too thrilled with him given the comments he’s made lately either.

I also think that it probably won’t happen do too the recent events that took place these past few years between him and Disney.
