I don’t like talking politics where isn’t not warranted, and I probably agree with you on PC culture, but it’s not "troll"ing anyone. No one is actually getting ‘debunked’

Ridiculous statement.

But sadly true

I don’t remember the Resistance fighting against muh misogynists last time I watched any of the Star Wars movies, and I don’t remember Hux saying anything about women. Correct me if I’m wrong

The Empire and the First Order are both pretty conservative. They’re divine right monarchies that require allegiance to a societal hierarchy, founded to restore the glory days that may or may not have even existed.

Sorry for being late, but did you and I watch the same movies? When does the Empire ever harken back to some glory days? The First Order only acts in a way that it could be interpreted like that because they believe themselves to a literal continuation of that same government

And when, in any Star Wars movie, is there any belief in some kind of Divine Right? There’s a huge difference between wanting to rule the galaxy and using the Force to do so, and believing that you have a right from GOD to exist as a government

There is hierarchy in the Empire/FO because they’re a militaristic organization- the Empire is based on Vietnam-era USA. The Empire/FO doesn’t have a social hierarchy because of any belief or society philosophy, it’s just military structure

Some old SW fans might not be happy with the way the new movies are made, but it was expected from a studio that delivered Frozen, Hannah Montana and so on over the last decade… Disney is girly-oriented, so are the new SW movies… just deal with it

Star Wars has always been about the diverse rebels versus the white male bad guys, and it’s so funny to see people take their frustration with the plot on “the Chinese chick” and the diversity. I completely agree with you- everyone knows that Disney appeals to as many audiences as possible, and people that are shocked that the cast is more diverse than in previous films are way behind

Also, I don’t understand how having the major points of the plot rest on female characters makes the film “SJW”. Just because main characters are female and said female characters actually play a part in the plot, and not just to be women on screen, doesn’t mean that social justice narrative is being preached

You’re not wrong, but you are missing the point.

So you’re assuming that the antagonists in a fictional story would be the kind of people to have a prejudice against women?

Yes, although not necessarily in-universe.

You’re making the illogical assumption that since a fictional character or organization is “evil”, they must align to your view of evil, which in your case includes misogyny

I’d love to hear your defense of misogyny.

Oh shit, why am I engaging someone who used a far-right asshole as his avatar until a moderator forced him to change it…

Can you learn to engage in polite discourse when talking to talking to me?

The more listen to TLJ reviews that aren’t 15-minutes rants about how “they ruined muh Luke” and “Holdo’s plan and Canto Bight ruined the entire movie”, I’ve realized that this movie’s flaws aren’t as big as they were originally hyped to be. I appreciate this entire film, and all that it contains, even the Canto Bight sequence.

Same with Frink, I won’t be watching TLJ edits any time soon, even once I own the movies and the DVDs have come out. Every time I watch a fan edit I no longer appreciate a film in its original form, so I’m not even going to watch any edit of this film. Would a very light fan edit drastically improve the movie? Yes, totally, but I like this movie too much to let it be ruined for me

I plan on watching it, because I find the idea humorous and enjoy fanedits. I think that getting outraged about this and taking it seriously is empowering the guy who made it, because I know that the person who made it, while talking about it, never indicated anything about it being “ironic” or “a parody”

If you don’t like it, just don’t talk about it and don’t watch it

The Jedi Council not existing, or being total d*cks?

Mrebo said:

Perhaps we don’t see the Council much, or at all. We can hear about it and the dictates it hands down and see how various Jedi react.

I don’t fee like that would work well in a series

In some religions there are cloistered orders (like nuns who live in convents and monks who live in monasteries) and there are those who choose to live non-cloistered lives (a nun can live on her own like any other person, except she’s a nun). Yoda could be the head of his [monastery]. And we could see various other Jedi without specifying how they live. The Jedi [pope]/Council could be constitute an adversary, many Jedi feeling compelled to follow what the Council says even if they disagree and we can see the disagreements and see what Jedis rebel.

Obi-Wan was trained by Yoda in the OT, and while it technically makes sense, I don’t think that’s what GL meant in the OT

I’m a little torn on my rewrite of the prequels. I think Yoda wouldn’t be about that bureaucracy stuff, so he wouldn’t be in the council, and neither would Mace in my rewrite. I want to portray the Jedi Council as a real adversary in TPM but learn their lesson, accept more people in AOTC, but go back to their old way when asking Anakin to spy on Palpatine.

However, I don’t want to make the Jedi out to be corrupt- I want to make the Jedi great and the Council a disgrace to what the Jedi should be, but would that be as close to how they were portrayed in the OT? The OT made it seem like the Jedi weren’t very organized, and it was a person-to-person thing.

What say y’all? I could really go either way. My rewrites tend to try to improve the stories themselves and not make them into totally different movies

Third watch today. Wife insisted. I had a ridiculous lunch of Chicken strips, fries, and a grasshopper milkshake. Felt like a kid again for a few hours.

Still really, really good. 3rd best or 4th best SW movie. Yeah there’s little issues here and there but it’s a movie, to paraphrase Joel, and we all should really just relax.

8.72ish/10

Wtf I agree with Frink

Damn. I accidentally clicked the Post button, instead of the next page button.

I wonder what JJ Abrams is going to do for the 3rd movie. I hope we see more of R2D2 & Chewbacca.

Apparently JJ has said he wants to bring all three trilogies together. I hope that’s true, because even if X does come out I’m going to deny its existence and IX will be my last episode. Plus, I hope to see more prequels since we haven’t gotten more than a few references in a line or two in each movie so far

Again, either enjoy the film, or don’t. but these nitpicks shouldn’t sway you one way or another.

The biggest problem plaguing movie reviewing nowadays, especially just people making reviews on YouTube, is that people get WAAAYY too caught up in the details and the nitpicks. The mindset is growing, that a film can’t be good unless every little plot detail is explained, and everything obeys the laws of physics and science and what not. People are slowly being unable to put aside things like that just to have a good time watching a movie

I play Galaxy of Heroes, and naturally they are adding new TLJ characters to the game. Rose is apparently coming soon, and people are pissed if the official forum is any guide. People are actually saying she’s worse than Jar Jar.

smh

I’ve been critical of this film but I actually liked the subplot of her and Finn (even if it wasn’t really necessary).

People are weird.

People saying that Rose is worse than Jar Jar are letting their (already misplaced) hatred get the better of them. I find it hard to believe that someone who genuinely hates Jar Jar thinks that Rose is worse than her. Rose wasn’t even a bad character, she was just involved in a slightly unnecessary subplot and said a few dumb things, not unlike every main Star Wars character at some point

Someone was able to get the character names off those Lego sets.

Han Solo (Imperial Disquise) & Tobias Beckett (Imperial Disquise)

This could end up being a funny little nod to ANH. Was it ever established who’s idea it was to disguise themselves as stormtroopers? I always got the idea that it was Han’s idea.

Also, wasn’t Rey originally supposed to be called Kira? I guess Qi-Ra (Emilia Clarke’s character) is meant to be a nod to that.

Is Han’s short career as an Imperial officer is still canon?

Nope, all of the EU is gone
